Good off season...roofing job for coach Willis is always a good one to start with...able to get into local bars with your fake ID...Brazilian girls next door didn't mind sharing you during over the summer...most of the team stayed in town and worked out, gained 15lbs of muscle, gained a 10th on your 40 time, developed good team chemistry...Swedish girls down the block didn't know about the Brazilian girls next door to you and also didn't mind sharing you over the summer...yada yada yada.

I'm still in shock to see Dubuque with a higher ranking than Wartburg in the kickoff :o

doolittledog...you sure you didn't go to Wartburg?  Pretty sure that is what every summer was like in Waverly!

Due to the fact that They think WB will lose to Monmouth. Also the conference predictions put the third place team losing to a team that finishes below them.

The only thing I wasn't able to dig up was why he didn't play last year? Maybe he had to sit out a year as far as transfer rules? Not sure, but I assume he has 2 years eligibility left.
One possible reason could be academic probation the prior year changed to dismissal after another bad semester.  Or academic dismissal, sit out a year, and decide to start over somewhere new.  Not saying that is the case, it could just as well have been an injury, then seeing the writing on the wall.  But if he wasn't even listed on the roster the prior year and is a great athlete... ??? ??? ???

Or maybe he was on double secret probation from Dean Wormer.

Or maybe NCAA regulations regarding scholarship athletes transferring.
I always thaought that a scholarship athlete transferring to a lower division was immediately eligible to play because DIII doesn't have scholarships for athletics.  Then again, if he transferred to Wartburg...

;) ;) ;)

But if he transferred from a D2 to another D2 before he transferrs to a D3? Why  all the attention to a back-up anyway?

Willie was wondering why an athlete took a year off, I was just offering my guess.  It may not be worth the two pennies 2 Dutchmen were fighting over when copper wire was invented, but it is what it is.

Central is looking pretty strong on paper this year with lots of returners and a couple of very gifted guys that were eligible to return for a 5th season.  We do need to find a replacement at running back, but know that we have some talented returners just aching for their chance to strut their stuff.  Plus, we have a very talented local freshmen who could follow in the footsteps of Vance Schuring, or going back further, Scott De Jong who ranked among top rushers.

It will be another exciting year and some tough non-conference foes to kick things off.

On paper, it doesn't look like anyone will give central a run for their money. A ton of returning starters, the most all conference players, etc...

Thank God football is not played on paper. I just hope we get central before they really start clicking on all cylinders.

I am just glad we play UD in Pella, less chances of triple OT playing here.   ;)

I am glad for that as well.  For some reason UD always plays us better at home than at Pella.

Willie U made the point earlier that others are catching up with Wartburg.  He may have a point there.  The Knights haven't won a league championship since two years ago.  I checked to see how the Knights have done over the past 11 years (That is what you can find on D3 Football)

In the eleven years Wartburg's conference finishes have been:
1st - 5 times (most recent 2008)
2nd -4 times (most recent 2007)
3rd - 2 times (most recent 2009)

The Knights' eleven year record against current conference foes is 73-15:
Central 6-5
Buena Vista 8-3
Coe 8-3
Cornell 10-1
Dubuque 10-1
Loras 10-1
Luther 10-1
Simpson 11-0

Buena Vista has the current longest win streak against Wartburg, 2 games.  If anyone has the Knights number I would say it was the Beavers.

I would debate this since you picked an odd number to make your point.  Wartburgs 5 year record against the Dutch is 1-4 with losing three in a row.  The 10 year record is 5-5.  I think the relevant fact here is that Coach Mc is 4-2 against the Knights and an even 2-2 against Coach Willis.   I would say that if any team had the Knights number it is the Dutch.

Yep, that 3 point win in Pella 2 years ago for the Dutch over UD with Central making a 45 yard FG with a minute to play sure was a butt whuppin...nothing at all like the Dutch beating UD by 3 in triple ot in Dubuque the year before ;)

Just think, at this time next thursday Dubuque should be just starting the 2nd half against Rockford.  And hopefully with a commanding lead!!!

It's been a while. Read through the previous pages. Sounds like some 'friendly' rivalry, a couple head butts and few flags were thrown.
Seems like the season already started!  :o

Just made the drive this past week end to Pella. My daughter now attends Central College. Maybe she'll go out for the kicker on the team.  ;D

DutchFan2004 and DutchHawk:
I guess I thought I was fairly clear that I used 11 years because that was the information available on the D3-Football site.  I really don't give a damn how you want to look at the numbers.  I simply reported what was available.
Go ahead, review and print 1-2-5-10 year results, whatever makes you happy. In fact, if it makes you feel better, I'll report that Central is by far the greatest football power to ever take the field at any level of this sport. I'll destroy everything in my closet except for those few red garments I currently own.  I'll become a card carrying member of the Reformed Church.  I'll admit only Central grads should be allowed to enter any kind of graduate school.  I'll be sure to let everyone know the sewer line from Central College doesn't smell when it dumps into the Pella waste water treatment plant.  I'll start wearing wooden shoes.  I'll drop to my knees and point towards Pella for prayer four times a day because I've learned the holiest of all people are at Central College.  Just let me know what you want; I aim to please.
