A question came up:  the ESPN Pick Em contest is for the "big dogs" only ... not for the IIAC.  Until the boys in Bristol, Connecticut come to their senses, we'll not see IIAC match-ups posted on the big board.

I'd like to offer up condolences to Coach McMartin at Central on the death of his brother, Clinton, who was a teacher and coach at Grundy Center.  He passed away Friday at just 36 years old.

My heart and prayers go out to the family and friends of Clinton. I read an article about him and it surely sounds like he was a very giving man. This world will miss him.

I too offer my prayers for the McMartin family.Another fine person gone way too soon.

If it's a measure of a person on how many people show up for a wake or funeral I would say that Clint McMartin lead a very full life even if it was so short.  I would guess that there was easily 2,000 people there tonight.  He was a very nice young man and a great guy.  He will be missed.

It is always sad to see someone pass so early in life.  Especially so, when a person was so influential in the lives of people in their community.  Mr. McMartin, taught, coached, officiated, was active in his church, and was a husband and father of three.  My prayers go out to his friends and family.

UW-River Falls HC to retire at the end of the season.

Stan Zweifel is a UW-River Falls alum.  Could Stan be tempted back to his alma mater?

My hope is that with the state budget woes in Wisconsin at this time, and with the general finantial health at UD right now, Coach Zweifel will be happy to stay right where he is.

Also, the UD athletic page section for live video/audio has been updated.  There will be video this year for UD football...finally!!!

Zweifel and Willis are probably the finalist  ;)

Doolittle, you are already worried about your coach leaving after the season?  The season hasn't even kicked off yet!!!!

I liked that article.  Good stuff, they sound confident.

Yes, they sound very confident indeed.

GO SPARTANS!

The DBQ's QB will be the determining factor.  His success will be determined by how small (or how big) of window he will throw into.  My guess is that he will hold the ball a bit longer and look for a little bit more space than his predecessor.  It's natural for a young QB.  This is the difference between a completed pass, an incomplete pass, a pick, or a sack.  Part of the advantage a senior QB has is the experience to trust his own ability and the ability of his targets.  Coach Z no doubt is trying to fast forward that...we shall see.

Word from Mt. Vernon is that the Rams fared very well at Augustana for their scrimmage.

Tough opening draw with North Central for Coach B., though.

I'm rootin' for 'em still.   :)

You are a smart man. I agree with your thoughts. One thing I have heard about Wyatt Hanus is that he has a tremendous work ethic and shares Coach Z and the rest of the coaching staffs desire to win. He has huge shoes to fill and he is definitely going to take his lumps this year but I am confident in the long run he will come out on top. I assume by the article he won the starting QB job to start the season. I know he had lots of quality competition during camp.

It's going to be a fun season.....looking forward to opening night at Chalmers field!

I have got to think that the severe lack of depth is going to be what will hurt Cornell this year.
