Good luck to UD as they kick things off for the IIAC tonight.

Is it Thursday already? Or are you talking volleyball?

Any Central College fans hinding in this area?

Thought I would ask for some information regarding the Central College football team this year. I understand they are quite highly ranked (believe #9 preseason?) but am curious more about:
- type of offense they run
- type of defense they run
- studs players and their position
- returning starters on O/D
- new freshman ready to make an immediate impact

I will not be making the trip to Iowa from Milwaukee (been to Iowa 2x in my playing days - Upper Iowa and William Penn U - we won them both - I would hope Central is MUCH better than those teams) but wanted to get some info on the team as I listen on the radio.

I don't think you will see many freshamn in the game for Central.  They have a lot of returning letter winners.  As far as offense they will run some read option, drop back pass, shotgun pass, and traditional hand it to a HB with a FB blcoking.  The offensive play book will be all the way open with all of the letter winners they have coming back.  Defense will be a 4-3 and the rest should be in the articl that was sited above.
Thanks  8-)

So I'm hitting the road early tomorrow morning for good old U of D to see the season kick-off tomorrow evening ... a big Spartan victory ... surely!

After the game ... and a little liquid refreshment no doubt ... I'll try to get to the computer at the hotel where I'm staying and give some impressions.

GO BLUE! (and I don't mean Wolverines)

Oops!  Guess I am jumping the gun.  Just too darn anxious!  Good luck to UD as they kick things off tomorrow night! :-[

To any Dubuque fan, and especially Dolittle and DBQ, that I may have offended: I apologize. It was not directed at you, just someone who likes to get personal but doesn;t like it when it comes back. From now on I'll play nice.

So I am reading the preview of Saturday's game and I see that Central's long snapper is a 5'8" 185 pound sophomore.   I never did any special teams play but doesn't being any kind of snapper, even in Division III, put you in the middle of several guys who are a good deal larger than 185 pounds?  I'm just a little worried that the size of this guy's cajones is going to interfere with his snapping.

There are rules in place to protect long snappers from cheap shots to the head and the like, but it's kind of hard for an official to see whats going on especially in goal line situations. But with a couple of big guards sliding over to protect him, I think he'll be ok.

Who doesn't like it when it comes back  ??? That never came out of my mouth  :P I am enjoying every minute of it. Every time you open your mouth, it creates a bad impression of yourself and wartburg  :-*

But, on to football....we can just both agree we don't like each other aside from football >:(

Good luck to ALL IIAC teams including the evil empire as we kick off the new season!!

GO SPARTANS!!!

Sometimes humor and tongue-in-cheek comments don't come across the right way on a message board.

Hence, footballdaddy with his "annoying people since 1959" sig line, and Willie with his comment that he's just enjoying himself.

From the vast amount of UD/Wartburg alums I know...if you put Willie and footballdaddy together with a pitcher...or two...of beer, they would probably have a great time talking football, life in general and drinking of course ;)

Terrell Owens was asked for one word to describe himself. He said "confident." When asked for another word he said "very."

For those of you that pronounce it Beyoona Vista, then this is pronounced as Kuh-Jones...but it is actually a synonym for huevos....which are obviously pronounced hew-vohs.

For you 'Hack fans, synonym is not pronounced sie-no-nime...and without the pictures it's not worth trying to explain.

It starts.    8-)

D - What did you mean when you muttered "typical Wartburg man"??

I kid, I kid ;D ;D ;D

Please note:

As a Wartburg grad and the son of a University of Dubuque grad, I have not been involved with this war of words between Willie U. and footballdaddy.

Since my UD mom learned to love her Wartburg kids and even her Upper Iowa kids, I kept thinking some day we would be able to bring Willie U around.  I'm affraid he has been scarred for life by a Wartburg grad somewhere along the way and this will never be resolved.
