Reality Check for the DBQ:  It was Rockford.

2 years ago, I remember attending opening night at Chipotle Stadium when the DBQ ran roughshod over an equally overmatched Rockford side.  Cut to Week 2, and Spartie found themselves on the other end of a whomping at the hands of Redlands.  So much for Week 1.

Not saying that will happen here, but Rockford is not the test by which we can truly evaluate the DBQ.

On the positive side, they won in the way they needed to and take away identified opportunities for improvement.

You must have skipped the line in my post that said, I REALIZE IT IS ROCKFORD and need to TEMPER MY EXCITEMENT. I think the others did as well........ WE ALL REALIZE the competition was not what we are going to face the rest of the season.

However, there were still many positives to the game. And most importantly, I wouldn't even compare this team to the one 2 years ago that handily beat rockford and went on to go 2-8. There is no comparison. NONE, ZILTCH.

BoBo......I also saw what you saw with that DB firsthand at the endzone he scored on. I got a good chuckle out of it. I am sure his coaches will not when they review film  ;D

Willie U

Actually I didn't just skip those lines, I skipped your whole post.   :o

I find it far more entertaining to get you set off and read your follow-up rants.   8-)

The cooler thing is that Jr. is back home :(

CaliRam I thought you were gonna get him on the pitch!?

He escaped back to the beaches of Sunny SoCal and the land of the California Burrito and Eddie's Carne Asada.  He can go play for OMBAC.   ;D

This is temporary anyway...you never know he may go back. :)

PS- Coach Z played 3!!, Yes, that is right 3 back up QB's in the 4th QTR. 2 of which were freshman. All of the reserves were in the game. If he wanted to run up the score, it would have been 70-7. And remember, 1 TD and 1 near TD got called back because of penalties earlier in the 3rd qtr.

I don't think we should criticize a well played game in every facet or discount a non-conference win. We are all on the same page and I can't wait to play the Pioneers. The Spartans stacked up very well in their scrimmage against Osh Kosh so I am not worried. If they eliminate some more mental mistakes, I believe they can play with anyone.

Oh, but we can and we will!   :D

What schools have video for their games this weekend?

I'm a free agent since UD has already played.  I would like to see some more IIAC football.

Cornell has Video.  I expect us to battle, but North Central is a heavy favorite...

Hmm, so Hawkeyes at 11am.  That will let me watch the 2nd half of the Cornell game.  If I can get my mowing done quickly, then I can watch the Wartburg game later that night.  3 IIAC games on the computer in a 3 day span of time.  Not too shabby.

It's hard to recruit when he was smart enough to go back to Oceanside. As soon as you increase my travel budget for recruiting, I'll get right on it.  ;)

Anyone else going to the Cornell game this weekend?

DBQ1965

Stiefel at QB for the Warts makes me nervous as a Spartan fan.  Saginaw Valley State is no slouch in D2 (unfortunately they play in the same conference with Grand Valley State), and Stiefel may have found his niche in D3 ... we shall see.

On a different note ... it was great seeing UD in their more traditional Spartan blue jerseys with white pants ... classic.  And I like the understated Spartan logo on the "metallic blue" helmets more than the UD with "Spartan in the D" logo that some yahoo without a sense of what it means to be a Spartan put in place.  Now ... if they could just change the logo on the 50-yard line ...!

GO SPARTANS!
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Better take it easy Heys, or Willie will start lumping Cornell parents in with Wartburg parents. ;)

I apologize if this has already been discussed in another thread, but just curious to hear from anyone who has watched Wartburg games online.  How's the feed?  I'm not going to make it to Waverly tomorrow, but would like to watch it if possible.  If I have a wireless connection, will it be just as good as having DSL?

Thanks -

Video is @ http://www.go-knights.net/sports/2010/8/24/streaming.aspx

Usually pretty good. I'm guessing being the only conf. game starting @ 7, there will be a lot of other teams fans stopping by of a look @ the Knights.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

WOW, not much love for the Knights in the W'loo Courier. 3rd billing after UIU + Luther in Small College weekend games preview. ???

http://wcfcourier.com/sports/college/article_ad1bb108-b758-11df-9194-001cc4c03286.html

"Dan Stiefel, a junior from Sterling Heights, Mich., has won a three-way battle to replace record-setting Nick Yordi at quarterback over Mike Sosnowski, a senior from Eldridge and Ryan Wurtz, a sophomore from Milford. Stiefel started his career at Division II Saginaw Valley State, where he passed for 2,113 yards and 14 touchdowns as a freshman. He transferred to Grand Valley State last year where three former Wartburg coaches reside - Jack Ginn, Erik Koehler and Tim Morrison. ... Wartburg has won 12 consecutive and 16 of its last 17 home openers at Walston-Hoover Stadium."

SO if he was so good at DII he should have stayed there???  Sorry Warty's  we'll see how this plays out, but when I think DII I see UIU and don't automatically equate that to an IIAC game changer.

Anywhoo - Good luck to all the IIAC'ers today, especially the DUTCH.
