I am sure a WIAC team would have gladly not played a D-II or NAIA school.

Coaches avoid scheduling tenure reducers.

Are D3 schools making coaching hiring decisions based on the difference in record of one non-rivalry game, really? Come on now.

I heard from a reliable source that Coach Z offered to play UW-Whitewater but they declined. A case of everything to lose and nothing to gain I suppose. Oh well, Hopefully in the not so distant future we meet them in the playoffs. You have to believe and I do.

Anyone who finds that unusual would have to be delusional. Of course, he would make that phone call -- probably did it before telling his wife and kids they would be moving again to take the DU job!!  ;)  Anything to stick it to Dr. Plinski at UWW for not selecting him for the Warhawk job in the first place. Tell me you wouldn't do the same thing knowing full well what the answer would be? Had I been the UWW AD, I would've called his bluff & raised him. Whitewater ended up playing 2 overmatched NAIA schools last year & another one this week -- what difference would it make beating the daylights out of an overmatched Dubuque team, too? I did watch that Rockford game last week.  ;)

I don't believe the offer was made to the AD

Regardless...the AD trumps the Head Coach. It's public knowledge that Coach Z didn't exactly go quietly; his frustration directed at Dr. Plinske. I'm certain the AD would reject any acceptable agreement the coaches might have discussed. Under the status quo, my guess is Leipold knew it wasn't a good idea and nixed the offer before the AD had a chance. Timing just ain't right. In time, maybe things will change...stay tuned.

Someone posted a link to the Massey Ratings over on the Wisconsin page.  Massey has Augustana at 361 and Central at 387.  Yikes!

When it may be one of the only games that team wins that year, you bet your apps they do.

The dynamics are waaaayyy different when you are coaching a team that doesn't/hasn't/isn't winning.

Don't take this as a criticsm, but the editorial perspective of D3Football.com slants more toward the programs, e.g. UW-W and MUC, that aren't in that category.

Wartburg head coach Rick Willis:
On his team, "We were excited about a lot of things that showed up on tape while at the same time in all aspects of play there are plenty of things to work on and get better at. If we improve on those things we have the potential to be a good football team."

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Typing on my phone I just lost a huge response. I will boil it down to this: You have no idea what I'm thinking if that's your response. I've worked in D3 schools and seen coaches canned. One W aint bringing those guys back. That's not what D3 is supposed to be about.

Here's what I am thinking.  In the half dozen or so message boards I visit.  I've never seen an administrator come down so hard on the posters that make up his site.  It seems odd to me.

It's Friday night, I'm ready for about 12 hours worth of football tomorrow.  Hopefully the IIAC teams put on a good showing and my Dubuque Spartans can get themselves a win against Platteville.

Pat can (and probably will ;)) correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Pat was responding as a fellow fan, not as the administrator.  If he comes down on you as the administrator, you will know it!  (Though we probably won't for a while, 'til you are allowed back! :D)

In addition to (or as a reason for) running the site, Pat is an avid fan of d3 sports.  (And of the Twins - Pat you owe my Tigers a 'thank you' for taking three straight from the previously red-hot ChiSox! ;))

Hardly...I'm talking about the guy you see when looking at a mirror...!! ;)

Pat is like the vast majority of D3 football fans & posters on this site -- quite capable of handling a little criticism and turn it around with rational responses...you on the other hand...  ;)  Who really has the thin skin?

Geez, give UD a shot at the top 3 or 4 in the league and it goes to Doolittle's head.   ;) ;) ;)

Pat's right, one more loss is not going to make or break a good coach.  Doolittle has had less experience with good coaches and in what he sees, one more loss for a poor to average team who has been poor to average for quite some time, and it might make a difference.  But only because the coach never got the team where the school wanted it to begin with.

But, I think UD has a coach who is ready to raise the level of play, so give him time, Pat.   ;)
