[q  I can't believe Coe will have the passing game that UD has.  They have a fantastic QB, but their receivers I don't think are as talented.

I looked at the stats and see how Coe is doing, but UD has better receivers IMHO, and given the competition Coe played to get their stats, I think Central is looking pretty good.  Just wish the game was at home.  We made huge strides this week and trust that Coach Mac will have them cleaning up the penalties and snapping issues before next week.

So yeah, this is a little late in the season but finally back from the god forsaken, football less land of Afghanistan. Nice to be able to actually see Central highlights on the website. Any way, I honest to god have no knowledge of the team whatsoever but seeing Snead on the highlights, it is really exciting to see that dynamic of a QB lining up for the Dutch! Good to be back on the board!

Great to have you back home Airborne.  Thank you for your service to our country.

Hopefully Dubuque can shake off the loss from today and come out and get a win next week at home against Cornell.  I am anxious to see if they will have the multiple cameras and replays and all the other bells and whistles they had for the Rockford game 3 weeks ago.  I will enjoy watching UD games on the net if they continue with all that.

UD has been a thorn in our side for some time and Zweifel was getting his numbers.  He and Flemming are very good receivers.  We were happy to not give up the big play, but UD had lots of yardage with shorter passes.  I still think they are one of the better teams in the conference, but now that they have had two early losses, it will be up to the Coach to make sure they don't follow old patterns and give up.

I hate to disagree with the Dutch faithful, but the Spartan run defense looked defenseless today.  With 4 holding calls against the Dutch, there was more stopping themselves than being stopped.  I think any decent running game in the conference who can play mistake free ball can give DBQ fits.  They will have to play some Pass D though . . .  Not to take anything away for the Dutch O-line, they did a great job today and perhaps thats the reason for my view of the Spartan D.  Time will tell.  Congrats to the Dutch in the trenches for owning this one.

I thought Hanus looked like a great player at times, but had some inconsistency in the accuracy dept.  Zweifel really didn't look full speed to me, he did make one play with yards after catch that looked All American-ish, but most of his yds came on pretty simple middle routes following the QB's roll out or bootleg.  Here's a can of worms I'll spill all over the table: Today, Jeremy Snead looked like the better receiver on the field.

And to be sure, Nate Snead and Ross Doehrman look like another outstanding 1-2 offensive punch for Central this year.  Nice to see the TB position getting solidified.

Love having the highlights on the Central website! Snead looks like you could line him up at tailback and he'd knock out 150 a game! Impressive. Nice to see Doehrman looking better, more confident, and of course Jeremy Snead looked great. He runs good routes and puts himself in position to pick up the yards all the time.

The lines looked dominant on film. Good job of the DBQ coaches by rolling Hanus out to keep him out of harms way for the most part. Quality game plan after what we did to Augustana last week.

If I remember right Boyle does a lot of pocket passing, will be interesting to see next week, I hope to make it up to the game!

Go Hawkeyes tonight!

Well my two cents on Hanus and Zwiefel.  Hanus was inconsistent as stated but take into consideration he is only a sophomore I think he was adequate at the QB position.  He through some nice balls and they were on time for the most part, by that I mean the ball was out of his hand before his receivers had made their cuts on the out routes which is very hard to defend.  Zwiefel was a good receiver today.  All american I don't know if his performance was up to that caliber but one game does not make a season and the honors are given out on the season.  Don't get me wrong I would love to have this kid in a Dutch uniform he is a GOOD player.  I posted before he dropped two balls in the endzone.  They were tough catches to make but the ball was in his hands.  If he had caught those two balls I would be saying he was an all american for sure.  He is talented and wish him and Spartan Nation good luck the rest of the season.  They are a whole lot better than the score shows.  I did think that the last Dutch TD was kind of UD of old.  The punt returner caught the ball returned it about 10-15 yards coughed up the ball and then a Dutch player scooped it and took it back to the one.  I thought up till then UD had played a very good game.

Welcome back Airborne Dutch, good to have you back safe and sound.  Thanks for your service, I appreciate all the men and women willing to step up and serve to help protect us.  That includes the police and fire fighters.  My niece is a police officer in Des Moines and would kill me if I failed to give a shout out to the protectors at home as well as abroad.   :)

Old Dutch, I don't mind your taking issue with my comments at all.  We did have to settle for field goals at times that I thought we should have scored touchdowns, but you are right, we were shooting ourselves in the foot more than UD was stopping us.  Well, except for the blatent holding of our pass receiver that was not called on a pass into the end zone.   ;)  And if you want to say Jeremy was the better receiver today, I can't complain too much.   ;D

The good and bad from Waverly:

Good:The Ram's horns are gone from Cornell's helmets. A big improvement.

Bad: If the Knights can't start playing four quarters, it will be a long season.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Maybe you should look at their numbers from last year.  Its the same group of guys, with the addition of their top receiver coming back after missing most of the year with a broken leg.  Add in some young talent and they are good.  Do they have a guy as good as Zwiefel?  Probably not.  Do they have 7 guys that can go up and get it, along with break down the sidelines.  You bet.

The way you are talking about the Coe Wide Receivers is kind of how St. John's talked about our Linebackers going into that game. We all know how that ended up.

Thanks for being out there for us Airborne Dutch. We highly appreciate your service. Welcome back!

I watched an exciting game last night. Sorry Hawkeye fans.  :o

I like the highlights on the Central website. I wonder if there's any chance of making them longer?

Question? When can I start getting really excited about Central without being labeled ShowMe (I think that was the user)? Last season I was bombarded early and had to wait until the end of the season.  ::)

I would like to have heard the half time talk in the Wartburg locker room.   Whatever Coach Willis said must have helped.  The Knights came out and played solid football in the second half.
I felt sorry for the Cornell reserves.  Some of them were getting some playing time and are then replaced by starters who score a meaningless touchdown against Wartburg three deeps on the last play of the game.  Cornell loses 34-14 rather than 34-7.  Interesting whether that helps or not.
In the post game interview Coach Willis says the Knights have plenty of work to do.  He says you can't be happy or satisfied when the opponent scores on the last play of the game.

AZDutchman, you have my permission to start getting excited and talking about playoffs and beating teams like a red headed step child.  Last year you just caught some old timers off guard who are more used to a Bill Belichek, low key approach.  Now, if we could just get our old BV supporters back, and actually find some Loras fans to add to the conversation we will be doing ok.

warthog, UD gets Cornell next week, can you tell me more about your game yesterday?  It sounds a bit like most years.  Cornell hangs tough for a half, and then a lack of depth dooms them in the 2nd half???

AZDutchman, I'm  feeling pretty good about Central this year too.  Last year Central was coming off a "down" year by Dutch standards, so most of us were a little less ready to get ahead of ourselves.  The team never can, but the fans can think a little further ahead.  This week will be a key week with Coe still most people's pick for most likely to challenge for the title.  We play on their field and, like most teams, they play well at home.

Playing Oshkosh to a score that was not that different than how Mount Union played them the following week was a first indication that it could be a good year.  Taking it to a UD team that was picked to finish 4th in the conference was a nice indicator.  This weekend will be another strong indicator and if we keep improving, I feel good about our chances.  They rank above us in some stats, but our competition level has been much stronger, throwing stats out of whack.  It's a game I'm anxious to attend.  We win, and I think it is going to be hard for Dutch fans to hold in our excitement.

Stats are especially irrelevant at this point in the season. Really comparing stats is useful towards the end of the year, and then you should only compare in conference stats because thats common competition.

I think that Coe will be coming ready to play, wanting to avenge last years dismantling, as well as being at home. Im sure it has to be in their minds that they must run the table in the conference to be assured of a playoff spot. 9-1 wont do it for them this year. (Depending on how the rest of the nation performs of course)

Should be a good game, Id love to see the Dutch come out and win by 3ish scores like last year.

Can Coe make us one dimensional? Can Central get to Boyle? Who wins the battle in the trenches?
