Congrats to Coe for moving up a spot in the rankings.  So it is #7 vs #9.  Does that make it "Game of the Week?"  Not the rankings matter right?

Never mind.  I just went back and looked and 5 plays 8 the same day.

warthog, UD gets Cornell next week, can you tell me more about your game yesterday?  It sounds a bit like most years.  Cornell hangs tough for a half, and then a lack of depth dooms them in the 2nd half???

DLD:

You kind of hit it on the head.  Cornell looked OK at first, but I just don't think they could stick with the Knights over the long haul.  I know I'm a little one sided in my comments, but by looking at the Rams it just didn't appear they had 100% committment to the weight room.  I'm sure at the likes of Central, Coe, Dubuque and Wartburg the off season workouts are "optional", but few if any players intending to be on the team the following year take the "optional" choice.  Little Warthog and I left Walston-Hoover by passing by the visitors' locker room.  We both commented that some of the Rams didn't have much size.  They had some decent players.  Of course the coach's son come to mind first.  He is a sticker.

A couple keys to me included the successful Red Zone visits Wartburg made in the Cornell end of the field.  They were there six times and came away with points all six times.  Both teams ran the same number of plays.  Wartburg averaged 5.1 yards per carry while Cornell got 2.6 yards.  Passing found Wartburg getting 16.6 yards per catch while Cornell settled for 11.4.  Cornell did have 30 more yards passing than Wartburg, but it took twice as many attempts to get the job done.

Bottom line is Cornell hung in there for a quarter and a half.  Wartburg then ran off 34 unanswered points and won by simply over matching the Cornell team.  We enjoyed witnessing the convoy the Knight offensive line was able to pull out and put in front of the Knight running backs.  Those twins on the right side of the Wartburg o-line are fun to watch.  The good news is they are underclassmen.  Then again quite a few of the Knights haven't been shaving all that long.  Regardless what happens this year, the Knights will be well stocked again next season.  This Wartburg team could finish anywhere between fifth and first in the IIAC.  Cornell on the other hand will likely finish anywhere between eighth and ninth.

Parity has not yet arrived in the IIAC.  ;)

AZDutchman, you have my permission to start getting excited and talking about playoffs and beating teams like a red headed step child.  Last year you just caught some old timers off guard who are more used to a Bill Belichek, low key approach.  Now, if we could just get our old BV supporters back, and actually find some Loras fans to add to the conversation we will be doing ok.

Now that I have the permission....I'm officially excited. Play offs should be in the picture, but I think I'll take the McMartin approach and take it one game at a time.

Next week should be a good one. Hopefully there won't be any problem with the video feed. My Mom hasn't been allowed to watch the games yet, but the way the high school games are going I think it's time to bring her to a game. Maybe?  ;D

Go Dutch!

I now know why there was a problem with the video feed for the game last Saturday. My Mom went to watch the game, but I put a Super Disruption Program on her computer so she couldn't. Don't worry about the game this week end, the icon has been removed from her desk top.  ;D

I can't wait to see what Central does against a ranked opponent.  Before they take a shot at number 9 I hope they fix the punting game.  It used to be a real weapon.  Since I missed the Oshkosh game and could only listen to the second half of the Dubuque game, the last three times I have seen Central try to punt have resulted in 11 points for the other guys.  UMHB blocked one and took it in for a TD in last year's play-off game.  Then there were two snapped over the punter's head and out of the end zone for safeties against Auggie and Dubuque.  None of that against Coe please.

I would say you're spot on, Warthog. I think our biggest issue is consistency. Against Monmouth our offense took a while to get going. Against AG we took a bit to get going also. We left too many points on the field in those games. Cornell happend just as you've explained. We will not go very far if all three units aren't ready to play from the opening kickoff. I've seen many encouraging things, but they're tempered by our mistakes. We don't have any room to brag at all.

At least the honeyburgers at the tailgates are excellent!

The Dutch and Coe fans are chomping at the bit, to go all in.
And Knight fans keep slow playing their hand.

I don't know if Coe is going to have a big home field advantage.  I'll bet Central brings more fans. ???
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

It's hard to tell since everyone has to sit together.
