I am not saying the broadcasters were not justified, there were certainly some flags that could have been thrown, it was just kind of funny because they would both get so passionate about it - it reminded me of the two grumpy old dudes on the muppets. Overall the commentators did a bang-up job, and certainly kept me entertained along with the game.

I don't know about staying in the top 10, but Central should fall no further than 15th. They were in that game until the end, and Coe just outplayed them - a sign of one good team beating another very good team. Should be an exciting year in the IIAC especially if Wartburg keeps playing lights out.
A fan of good football - wherever it may be found.

The Coe-Central game was a good one to watch. I had the luxury of staying dry in the press box all game. For a minute, it looked like this game would come down to whatever team had the ball last. Both offenses seem to do whatever they wanted for most of the game. I liked watching that Doehrmann kid run in the first half. Coe made some defensive adjustments at half to keep him in check (for the most part) for the rest of the game. Snead and Boyle were studs in this game. Coe needs to work on kick coverage and tackling. Central had great field position all game. Poor tackling also gave Central more yards than they should've had. Either way, it was a great game to watch. The Central radio guys were great to listen to.

@Dutch Radio... the Varsity Blues comment off air had me rolling.

Good luck to the Rams tonight.

Coe broadcasters were the worst "homers" I have heard in years.  Do you think when the officials didn't call something that it indeed didn't happen?

Wow. You must not get out much. Try listening to a Texas team or ... well, there are a lot of places with some pretty bad homers. The Coe guys didn't even really get on my nerves.

Congrats to Coe. It's too bad when top ten teams have to play each other so early, like UMHB and HSU will tonight. I don't think Central will drop much, and you'll work your way back up. You both have Wartburg to play, also. The IIAC is crazy again.
Two words:  THE STREAK

Video for the UD/Cornell game at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/dbq.portal#

Cornell up 3-0 on UD in the 1st quarter.  I just got in so have no idea what has happened.  And will take off again soon and miss the rest of the 1st half.  Hopefully Dubuque finds some sort of groove here soon.

Central seemed to have a not so fresh feeling on defense today.

Great win Kohawks!

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Just got home from the Coe-Central game awhile ago.  Congratulations to Coe, you guys played a flawless game today.  At the half, I thought Central would win as the second half tends to be our better half, but Coe made the better adjustments and Central seemed to turn conservative in the 3rd quarter.  I haven't seen stats or the play-by-play, but it seemed like we passed less in the third quarter wanting to control the clock, but couldn't do it without the combination that worked so well in the first half.  I, also, thought it might come down to who had the ball last being the winner.

The back breaker and game turner was indeed when Furlong had the ball punched out just before scoring a TD and having it turn into a turnover for the Dutch.  Had we scored there, I think the outcome might have been different.  Coe was more aggressive when they needed to be and they made the plays.  They wanted it more and were clearly the better team in the second half.

It was a terrific game to watch, wish the Dutch had won, but no excuses here.  The team that played the best game won today.  Maybe that will teach the Dutch to stick to the one game at a time strategy and not get a segment on TV about wanting to win a national championship.

I can take losing to another great team, but crap, now I have to want Wartburg to win when they play Coe.  Not sure I can stomach that one.   :D :D :D

Can anyone shed some light on just what happened across from the game this afternoon?  I know lots of fans from both teams went over to check it out, but never really heard what happened.  Hope whoever was taken away in the ambulance is okay.

Classy in defeat as always Klompen. And with so little practice at it, :)
Truely was a great game to watch and I'm totally with you, at half time it didn't look like Coe would ever be able to slow down the Dutch much less stop them. I didn't count the offensive plays that Central had in the second half, but they didn't have the ball ten minutes in the entire second half. Central has a great D-Line, but with the T.O.P. and the tempo Coe played at, they were just gassed in the fourth quarter. Some times you just have to tip your hat to the other team. Good luck the rest the way.

http://www.central.edu/athletics/story.cfm?storyID=3121 is the link to the Central write up for those that want to read it.  Very complementary to Coe who made our previously top ranked rushing defense look quite porous.  I was surprised at just how good their rushing game was given all the emphasis I had heard about Boyle and the Coe passing game.

Congratulations to Ross Doehrmann on his career high rushing day and to Nate Snead getting 99 yards rushing plus some great passing until doing so under pressure at the end of the day.  I knew Doehrmann had some outstanding plays, but didn't realize he had gained that much.  Must have been my rain soaked brain malfunctioning.

Thanks to all the previous posters for your comments on how great both teams played today.  It's not easy to lose, but glad for the attention to the game from other IIAC and non-IIAC fans and their kind words.  Would love to see a rematch.

Does anyone out there have any info on the UD/Cornell game?  I can't get the webcast to work for me at home.

Thanks, Thunderbolt.  No reason not to be honest.  Sat behind a Coe mom today and we had an unofficial cheering contest to see who could spur their team on the best.  After Coe got the last turnover and with Central unable to stop the clock I told her how much fun I had cheering with her today and that the best team had won.  She didn't realize the game was all but over, but was very gracious in victory.  As were all the Coe fans I encountered today.

You know how it goes, it was one of those games that you say, it was too bad one team had to lose, wish it had been theirs though.    ;)
