With too much time on my hands I compiled the following football roster numbers

1.  Simpson         141
2.  Central           126
3.  Wart               116
4.  Coe                100
5.  Luther              99
6.  Loras                93
7.  Dubuque           91
8.  Buena Vista      75
9.  Cornell              60

It appears to me that Simpson should have the largest JV squad.  Wart left 67 players home.  If you subtract 67 Varsity players from Simpsons total that would give them 74.  Wart has also won some games by a more lopsided scores than Simpson allowing them to put more sub in and thus fewer JV players eligible to play.

Another explaination might be that footballdady was using his fingers on his right hand to keep track of the tens and couldn't figure out how to use the second hand to get an accurate count of the Simpson players.

Good luck to all squads Varsity and JV.  Do we play any Freshman games?

Which brings me back to my question with 146 players what has happened to the Stoem ??? ??? ??? ???

Actually I was going off of a player's parent's numbers for Simpson. I have a very good source on how many Wartburg suits. :) It could be an advantage for Simpson to play that many if they're trying to develop some chemistry and get off the schnide. Maybe the 2's that played last Sunday will play a bigger role next Saturday. They obviously were trying very hard to win on Sunday even going to an onside kick to start the second half.

What happened to the 130+ that Dubuque started the year with?

Looks like Wartburg lost about 18 from the start of camp and Cornell kept almost everyone.

I counted 117 on the UD roster...but I was educationized at UD...so my math could be a bit off ;)

Actually it was 170 plus. I assume that a lot of the same mathematical formulas were used as the year before when 110 new faces joined the three returning classes for a total of 90 something.

I'm caught.  Confession I put as many players names as the page would hold counted the page. Shuffled to the end of the roster and then counted the last page.  I would have been more accurate but I am at work.  At work I have  to get the Sudoku, Celebrity Cipher, and the crossword done before lunch (I'm not that good at multitasking so counting all the rosters was out of the question).  If I can't get them done before lunch I have to do them in the afternoon which interfers with the nap I take sixth period.

I am truely sorry and will take more time to get an accurate count manana.

That Simpson roster is something everyother number is a double.

Maybe Simpson is taking quantity over quality?  They haven't had a ton of money coming in recently.  So maybe they are after a high number of recruits to help finantially.  It does seem strange for this old timer to see Simpson not near the top of the conference standings.  Of course, I am also happy to see UD moving up the standings in recent years ;D

I was at the Luther College Library over the weekend and paged through some old yearbooks.  I was surprised to find that the last time Luther beat Simpson in Indianola was 1986.  D'oh for 11!  By coincidence, 1986 was also the last time that Luther beat Wartburg in Waverly.  Not surprisingly the mother-of-all-road-woe resides in Pella where the Norse haven't won since 1976. Note to Self: (1) Avoid land wars in Asia  (2) Draft U.N. resolution to designate Bremer, Marion and Warren Counties as territories of Asia.

Now if I were to plant myself somewhere between Saturday and the last quarter century, I might like to change a thing or two.  Unfortunately, I've misplaced the keys to the way-back machine and since my NCAA eligibility has expired I can only offer words of encouragement.

If I had the chance to do something special, something that hadn't been done for a generation, to have an opportunity to help a rising program avoid back-to-back losses and avoid a LONG bus ride home, I'd challenge myself to be the very best that I could be from the opening kickoff until time expires.  Good luck and GO NORSE!

Sincerely yours,

So I am trying to work with Coe on a designated tailgate area for Wartburg parents before the game.  I get the response from Coe "Since this is our homecoming we do not have any areas available for your tailgate as we have too much going on".

Are you kidding me??  I really wanted to respond with "We are just trying to make sure we are not attacked with garden tools because we are using the wrong parking spot".

I guess since I work in CR I will find a good spot for our tailgate and hope we are not attacked.  :D
Win or lose we still booze!!

I wonder if Boyle will help us put a roof over our spot? ;)

I'm not sure of the year (2001 to 2003) and it wasn't all the parents (just 6 or 7 families).  The Wartmobile arrived in CR about 3 hours before kickoff and we parked on the street behind what I call the east end zone.  Mrs. Warthog and I started to scout for a spot to set up.  A guy in the house right in front of where we parked was out mowing his lawn and I struck up a conversation with him.  The next thing I knew he was offering his lawn.  We had a great time.  His family and the family next door joined in the party.  He said he watched the games occasionally from his front steps but never actually went in.  As a thank you Mrs. Warthog and I bought tickets and the two families actually watched a game from the bleachers.

Perhaps it was the same guy and he was just mad that Central fans wouldn't offer him beer, brats, oreos, and tickets to the game.
