The week end starts with Friday Night high school football...

Have you heard of a team losing all 3 of their quarterbacks lately?
Well, we have. During the walk through yesterday our back up quarterback fractured his ankle?
The back up to the back up was the one that broke his leg last game. He was the one that we pulled up from the JV.
Now we're going to be using the back up from the JV. Should be an interesting game.  :P

do i hear calls for the spinner back?

Since it's Thursday night already, I feel safe to say this must be the quietest Coe/Wartburg week ever.

I think it has to do with the present situation:

Though both teams are undefeated, Coe is heavily favored and the Wartburg faithful know it.  Knight fans, while cautiously optimistic, understand a Wartburg victory would be viewed as an upset of epic proportions.  This results in fans not being very boisterous.  Coe fans on the other hand are almost looking at this as a sure thing.  After all they have already defeated the conference favorite and the Knights should be a mere annoyance similar to a gnat.  Yet, there is that little lingering doubt and should the unimaginable happen it would be tough eating crow for the next few weeks.  This also results in a somewhat subdued atmosphere here on the board.  Basically everyone is trying to avoid spreading bad karma on their favorite team.  I guess instead of playing it out here on a discussion board, we'll let the kids settle it Saturday afternnon.

Trust me.  That is far from the truth.  It's Coe-Wartburg.  Anything can happen.

i'm pretty sure this isn't far from the truth, to be honest.. for a long time no matter the rankings/records of Coe/Wartburg, Wartburg was always the favorite... I think Coe should expect a victory.. not just *hope* for a victory.

All this time I kept quiet about you, and then you go and out yourself :D

That is awesome! Never would have expected it!!
Thanks, Willie!  I wanted to gain a little respect on the board before letting everyone know.  I have followed the sport for years, watching Vern Den Herder suit up as a Dutchman before a Dolphin.  Of course, I thought he was a great basketball player too, particularly since at that age I understood basketball more.  There was a lot of pride in watching a former Dutchman play in 4 Super Bowls, particularly his first 3 years out of college.  Talk about being in the right place at the right time.  Anyway, I have been a Central fan for longer than many of you have been alive and I will always bleed red and be proud of it.

thats pretty standard, right? i mean even for girls...

Oh No! You didn't go there, did you?

I suggest the wildcat. :)

This season has had trouble written on it from the beginning. If you remember my son was moved from center to guard because the guard was injured. then moved to tackle for a line adjustment. Well Tuesday the replacement guard sprained his ankle. Are you keeping up on this? I have never seen so many injuries. This team prides itself on conditioning. All in great shape. Just falling like flies.
So yes, I expect to see the wildcat.
wildcat, spinner back, wilddog, 220, 221 whatever it takes....

Interesting perspective on the 4A attitude to d3.  I'm a little tardy but will chime in.  Had a conversation with a suburban 4A player a couple yrs ago.  He thought it was funny that his whole team was "recruited" by Simpson and couldn't see why anyone would pay the big bucks to private schools to plan an intramural level of ball.  Obviously without a clue.  I tried to explain the coach is a recruiter for the admissions office as well as the team and picking up a bunch of local kids on a short recruiting trip could be easy money at low cost.  I was in a public place so I held back on the "intramural" bit, don't think there was enough serious FB knowledge in him to make it worth arguing about.

I think that attitude is disappearing, and part of it has to be due to some media coverage (internet based, one web site in particular, thank you Pat) and the ESPN mentions of d3 through the playoff selection show and Stagg Bowl Coverage.

By the way its not that small school kids can't compete (think Sangers, Suckows, Boyle, et al)  its just the numbers game, thousands more kids playing in the big schools than in the smalls.  Kids actually competing for playing time rather than walking in as the big dog and coasting,  so they have more developed athletes to choose from in the good programs.

The Central Dutch doesn't have a mascot? What's with that? :(

Well, it's like this.  We used to have a red dinosaur that looks like a Big Red Barney, it was hot and falling apart, so they did away with it.  They then went with a Dutch mascot that probably looked like a muscled version of the Dutch Boy paints logo.  That wasn't politically correct because it was blond haired and blue eyed, so  we just did without.  Now why, in a town loaded with wooden shoes and Dutch costumes on moth balls 362 days a year they can't put any cheerleader of any nationality in a costume is beyond me, but that is how it is.  I guess that wouldn't be big enough by mascot standards.

??? ??? ??? ???

Blond hair and blue eyes was not representative of all the ethnicity possibilities of the make up of the team, so it was shot down.  The "You're not much if you're not Dutch" bumper stickers that they used to sell around town disappeared at the same time.  None of it was ever meant as a true put down to other ethnicities, but it has now all changed to either "kiss me, I'm Dutch", or "You can always tell a Dutchman, but you can't tell him much."

Everyone stay healthy today and good luck. Maybe a little less luck to the Kohawks.

I mean, what guy posting regularly on a football board for years says they NEVER played football?  Even if they went to a school like Pella Christian that didn't have football for years, I bet somewhere they tried it.

Uh'hum!
I am 6'5" 270 and I have never played football, only rugby.

I was 220 when I was swimming and breaking the 50 and 100 free records at Coe.

A couple guys asked me to play football, and a few others asked me to play soccer, but that was it.

Go get'em today Kohawks!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Let's go Spartans and get a homecoming victory over Simpson today!!!

My wife decided it would be better for us to stay home today.  Something about not wanting me outside breathing in cold air all day and keeping me away from the temptations of beer while I am still on medications.  But, I am drinking my morning coffee out of a UD mug and ate my frosted mini wheats out of a blue bowl.  I might even sneak out this afternoon and get a little mowing in just to send all the positive karma I can towards UD ;)

To everyone else, good luck and let's stay injury free.  Should be a another great day for football in Iowa.

Good luck to all the IIAC today, especially the Dutch, I'll be keeping on eye on 'em in Decorah, but also looking for those Wartburg-Coe updates.  It will be interesting to see if Warty's defense is up for its first real challenge of the year, should be a great game.

GO DUTCH!

Dedication... I'm liking it! Don't forget to cut the lawn in the same direction that you did before when they won.
