Once again I won't let a lack of knowledge keep me from posting.  It seems to me like part of the logic for not letting freshman play was for the student part of student athlete.  The transition for a student from high school to college was thought to be stressful enough without the added burden of playing varsity sports.  I'm not saying it made any sense because probably the freshmen spent as much time at their sport as the varsity players, except for the travel to away games.

Sorry to chance the subject. But as a proud father my son graduates, friday the 22th as a Doctor of Chiropractic. Another ex-IIAC football player does his family proud. Again sorry for this post but couldn't help myself.

Congratulate Brandon for us. I'd be happy to be his first patient!

It is about time for:

1) D3 football to have an eleven game regular season

2) The IIAC to invite a 10th member

1. We had an 11 game schedule for a few years in the 1980's
2. Who do we invite???

What about picking up Grandview, Graceland, or some school out west for the Beavers to pick on?

I'd vote for Grand View. That way we could get some media coverage in Des Moines.

First Strength of Schedule is out.  Coe is #6.  What does this mean?  Still an outside shot at an at-large bid if there is a three-way tie for the title or not?

A co-worker and I were talkign about this. Is there anyway 3 teams from the IIAC get invited to the playoffs? What if all 3 are ranked inside the top 15?

I don't think it's ever happened before.  My question is if Central beats Wartburg and we have a three-way tie for the title.  Wartburg gets the Automatic Bid in that case.  One would have to assume that the IIAC is going to get 2 bids this year.  Do they take Coe, whom beat Central, or do they take Central, whom lost to Coe, but has the tougher Non-Conference schedule.

The conference could invite Grinnell and make the dues really high for new members.

When you think about bids to the NCAA post season tournament you have to put the Top 25 ranking aside.  They are essentially meaningless.  What you have to look at is the NCAA regional rankings.  They are the rankings that have significance because they are the ones which will determine who gets in and who doesn't.

Didn't Grinnell and the Iowa Conference have talks earlier in the decade and the talks ended up breaking down because the IIAC wanted Grinnell to add wrestling and Grinnell wanted no part of having wrestling???

You would think Grinnell and the IIAC could find some sort of common ground.  Then again, I keep hearing Grinnell wants to take Cornell away from the IIAC and form some sort of D3 Ivy League with some of the Midwest Conference schools and some other area schools from the AMC.  Who knows.

Maybe the question should be...If Cornell leaves, do we try to replace them with 1 or 2 schools?  Or would we keep things going with 8 schools?

I'd invite Northwestern College.
A well established athletic program.  :)
An area rival for Buena Vista.  >:(
A heritage rival for Central.  ;D
Really hot coeds for the rest of us to admire.  :P

My wife went to Northwestern...for 1 year ;)

She left because the boys were too shy and there was no drinking...she would have got along fine at UD or Wartburg I suspect :D
