I would like to take a moment to say how proud I am of the D-3 Football Family. The outpouring of support for Chris Norton and his family has been inspirational. All of you who check his site daily hoping and praying for progress know what I mean. The list of coaches, players, parents, fans and alumni from all over the country is amazing. And I know the IIAC community will continue that support for the long months of rehab that's ahead for them.

It is about time for:

1) D3 football to have an eleven game regular season

2) The IIAC to invite a 10th member

1. We had an 11 game schedule for a few years in the 1980's
2. Who do we invite???

What about picking up Grandview, Graceland, or some school out west for the Beavers to pick on?

Hey, what about William Penn? How could you forget them?

I've been trying to forget William Penn for about ten years.

When it comes to the "real" stuff of life, IIACers stick together!
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Is there really any legitimate school in Iowa that would consider entering the IIAC? Teams like Grand View would be nice but would they really give up scholarships to join? Half their roster is from Texas and I'm doubting they're coming up here just because they fell in love with the school. Scholarships are whats carrying NAIA teams that can't get as many in state recruits.

Aren't there like, some football games or something tomorrow?  Personally, I am just a little nervous to have Loras come to Pella on a two game winning streak and with their defense getting stingy and the possibility of the weather slowing things down even more.  I'm thinking Central needs to eliminate the turnovers and penalties and keep getting better and they should be able to win a game that the Duhawk defense and the weather may keep closer than many seem to expect.

It's been said before about NAIA scholarships that they don't amount to much. I'm sure about every IIAC player is getting financial aid far beyond what any NAIA player is getting as an athletic scholarship. The biggest scholarship I've heard from NAIA is $2000 with most under $1000.

As far as games go, I'm a bit worried about tomorrow. UD seems to always give us trouble when we least expect it, like tomorrow. On paper, it shouldn't be much of a contest but last I checked you have to win the game on the field.

Not sure if I will be able to get to the game tomorrow or not.  I have a family funeral mid-morning for a cousin killed when a tractor flipped over on him.  That might be a tough transition in a very short period of time.  Plus my reserved seat is right next to my aunt and uncle who lost their son.  Their absence would be a game long reminder of how sudden life can be taken away.

Good luck to all the teams, play both safe and hard.  Best of luck to Central and UD.  Go Dutch, Go Spartans!   ;)

My condolences, Klompen....let me know if  I can help in any way!

I agree tomorrow is going to be a tough one for the Knights.  We will have to be able to run the ball against a stacked box.

A patient running game and an opportunistic defense will be needed.

Go Knights!!
Win or lose we still booze!!

Everyone have great games tomorrow!

Wartburg fan whose house I just appraised seems confident for tomorrow.  So no worries Knight fans.  This one is in the bag ;)

My condolences, Klompen.  That is tough to deal with.  We'll be thinking of you tomorrow.

Are they confident because of Wartburgs abilities to play football or
from their abilities when the players did the peoples roof?  :o :o

As footballdaddy said, that really isn't true.  Most football scholarships at NAIA schools range from $500 - $2,000 and then you get additional finantial aid.  There have been many posters on here that talked about getting recruited by NAIA and D3 schools in this state and pretty much all of them were given a better finantial package to attend D3 schools.

Now, you get loads of kids that get blinded by the word "scholarship" and take that $500 scholarship and tell anyone that will listen they are getting a full ride to play football.  The reality is much different.  Grand View has a ton of Texas kids...Dubuque had a ton of Florida kids and they weren't getting scholarships, there were probably going to UD for less money that most of those Texas kids at Grand View.

All that being said, Grand View really pushes the word "scholarship" in all their advertising.  If they ever leave the NAIA they would move to D2 so they could keep selling the scholarship fairy tale.

Iowa Wesleyan gave D3 a hard look a couple of years ago.  They did a study and found that D3 schools typically give more aid per student than NAIA and D2 schools and that by moving to D3 their students would probably be able to go there for less money than their current NAIA situation.  It all fell on deaf ears and coaches and players that were interviewed for a newspaper article kept saying they needed scholarships to be able to go to school there.  Then the conference Iowa Wesleyan belongs to said they would kick them out of the conference immediately and they would have no one to play in the NAIA if they even announced they were formally looking into moving.  Iowa Wesleyan announced shortly afterwards that they were staing in the NAIA.

Grand View, Morningside, and St. Ambrose I think would only move to D2 if they ever left the NAIA.  The other NAIA schools in our state will probably stay in the NAIA unless it just goes away.  Then it would be a free for all as to what schoools went to what conferences.  Hopefully the IIAC would stay mostly intact if that ever happened.

I think the only serious options for Iowa schools to move to our conference would be Grinnell, though unlikely.  Waldorf, though they have gone "for-profit" so who knows.  Briar Cliff.  Waldorf or Briar Cliff would be nice to give Buena Vista a closer team to play.  Grinnell would have an easy transition since they are already a D3 school.
