Wartburg fan whose house I just appraised seems confident for tomorrow.  So no worries Knight fans.  This one is in the bag ;)

Are they confident because of Wartburgs abilities to play football or
from their abilities when the players did the peoples roof?  :o :o

I think its a confidence of Wartburgs abilities, but Wartburg fans are normally quite confident about their team.  I told him I was going to be at the game tomorrow, but I kept quiet about being a Dubuque fan...he was a lot bigger than I am, I didn't want to get fed to the cattle if I angered him :D

To add on DD part about NAIA scholarships...
I was called and his whole "sales pitch" was about how he wanted to give my son a football scholarship.
I told him that we had already made our decision on Central and he resorted back to the scholarship.
They don't have one, we do. The guy drove me nuts.  :P

I'm a little concerned about tomorrow's UD/Wartburg tilt.  The Spartans have been thorns in the Knights' sides for a few years and they are especially troublesome in bad weather.  The forecast calls for thunderstorms.  Bad weather seems to level the playing field when it comes to home field advantage.  I'm still predicting a Knight victory, but if people leave early it will be because of the weather rather than the score.

Our pregame plans are still up in the air.  Whether were at the stadium. the Goat, or Little Warthog's house will be an early morning decision.

Is there really any legitimate school in Iowa that would consider entering the IIAC? Teams like Grand View would be nice but would they really give up scholarships to join? Half their roster is from Texas and I'm doubting they're coming up here just because they fell in love with the school. Scholarships are whats carrying NAIA teams that can't get as many in state recruits.

After scouring the Midwest Collegiate Conference, Great Plains Conference, College Conference of Ill. and Wisc.  and Heart of America Conference I can only come up with two Colleges.  Upper Iowa who couldn't compete in DIII and moved to DII.  They won't come back and Waldorf of the Midwest Collegiate Conference.  Geographically it would make sense for Waldorf to play in the IIAC but since they are WOMEN'S WRESTLING power I don't think they would make the jump.

Not sure if I will be able to get to the game tomorrow or not.  I have a family funeral mid-morning for a cousin killed when a tractor flipped over on him.  That might be a tough transition in a very short period of time.  Plus my reserved seat is right next to my aunt and uncle who lost their son.  Their absence would be a game long reminder of how sudden life can be taken away.

Good luck to all the teams, play both safe and hard.  Best of luck to Central and UD.  Go Dutch, Go Spartans!   ;)

Personally, I am just a little nervous to have Loras come to Pella...

I'm still experiencing relief over Central's win at Cornell.

It's been said before about NAIA scholarships that they don't amount to much. I'm sure about every IIAC player is getting financial aid far beyond what any NAIA player is getting as an athletic scholarship. The biggest scholarship I've heard from NAIA is $2000 with most under $1000.

You must be pretty unfamiliar with NAIA scholarships then...I've known several that had almost every cent covered.

NAIA has no limitations on scholarships. It's up to each school to fund their scholarship program. Each school gives out whatever they want. I would imagine that the bottom line figure of a  IIAC player and a NAIA player are quite similar, if not in favor of the IIAC. NAIA calls it an athletic scholarship and the IIAC calls it financial aid. The bottom line stays the same.

Not by the athletic scholarship by itself.  NAIA schools are supposed to be limited to 24 football scholarships.  I have no doubt kids at NAIA schools get almost every cent covered.  But it is a combination of their athletic scholarship and additional finantial aid from the school.

Anyways...we've had nothing but sunshine and 60 degree weather around here for weeks.  Am I to understand that tomorrow...the day I am finally able to make it to a game this year, we are supposed to have rain most of the day???

Yes, and it's all your fault!   ;)  I don't know about Northern Iowa, but around here they are talking about early morning showers and clearing up mid-morning, possibly returning later in the evening.

Thanks to all for the condolences, the good news is that my cousin died instantly, he did not suffer.

DF1 - I will PM you about the other issue you are so graciously offering to help with.

With the news of Klompen's cousin and reading about the rehab efforts by Chris Norton, the results of a football game seem a little less dramatic than they did a week ago.  Sure I want Wartburg to win, but this week I'm going to be a little more concerned that all the young men participating in games finish the day in good health.  If that happens; win or lose it will be a good day.

I guess I should add young women to the list.  It appears Wartburg's worst injury last Saturday was a wrist sprain by one of the cheerleaders.

I just had a chance to read all the posts from Chris Norton's family on caringbridge. What an amazing family he has and what an amazing young man he must be. One thing is for sure....you can tell by reading his fathers posts that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I agree with Warthog and Chris's dad, when you think about all the petty stuff in life we stress about...it truly is meaningless when you are faced with a real challenge.

I hope for a great day of college football tomorrow. But, most importantly, the health of all that are playing. It's a game we truly love, it builds character, and it is fun to play. Good luck to all and especially to Chris in the middle of the game of his life.

Klompen, I would also like to offer my condolences to you and your family for the loss of your cousin.

ESPN Game Day just finished a report on "hard hits" in college football and resulting injuries with focus on the Rutgers U player who was injured last week.  But also getting respectable ... and more important, respectful mention ... was Chris Norton and Luther College.

Let's keep everyone safe today ... and ...

GO SPARTANS!
