Illegal block below the waist on the lead blocker

Thanks for the explanations on this call. What threw me off was the word block inside a call against the defense.
I did look into this myself and found a referee site that this was a topic of discussion. They found this to be a very gray area and a penalty that was hard to call and to recognize.

I would only partially agree with this.  It may be hard to recognize as you are not looking for the defense to do this as the defense is usually trying to avoid blocks and tackle the runner but it is not a gray area.  A block below the waste is a block below the waste.  So when you do see it, it is easy to throw a flag.

Good case in point.

In watching the play it looks to me as if he over pursued the play and was trying to go through the blocker to get to the running back. If I really wanted to analyze the play, the blocker put his head/helmet down to make the block.

Bringing up a point made by the players in the NFL...The players are asked (ruled) to hit in a certain area. The one player in the interview described it as a "strike zone". He said, "The strike zone can move in a split second. How are we suppose to stay in a moving strike zone."

I am not talking about spearing, helmet to helmet or any other out of the rules dangerous play. Just old fashion hitting, blocking and old school wrapping of the player.

LITTLE LATE IN CORRECTING

Yes, Luther did go to Wartburg but he was captured and forced to go.  There he suffered CONSTIPATION for a YEAR and was so embarrassed to be there that he didn't let anyone know he was there.  He also went under the name "Junker George" so his friends wouldn't know.

Obviously he wasn't proud of his stay.

Wartburg students should know the whole history.   :D :D ;)

So....

A Luther football player, nickname Junker George, was suffering from constipation, so his doctor prescribed suppositories. A week later Junker George complained to the doctor that they didn't produce the desired results.

"Have you been taking them regularly?" the doctor asked.

(The football player felt offended)

"What do you think I've been doing," Junker George said, "shoving them up my butt?"

(The doctor's final thought....This guy should have gone to Wartburg like Luther did.)

Sorry, I couldn't resist...  ;D ;D

Having mixed emotions about tomorrow's game. Although I'm excited to watch the Knight's season progress, I'm kinda not ready for Senior Day. This could be the last time I've got anyone with a direct involvement in a Wartburg game. Four years ago at his last game in high school I could be a little smug knowing that there were four more years. There isn't four more years this time. The good news is that the season's not over yet and hopefully we stay focused and can go on. Otherwise I'll have to start looking at Saturdays in a different light.

Good Luck to everyone, and let's stay healthy out there!

Have footballkid become a GA at Wartburg...then you could still have some direct involvement in a Wartburg game ;)

Time really does fly when you're having fun.  There have been a lot of posters on here where you can't believe their son has already finished up his playing days.  It will be interesting to see what poster on here will be the 1st to have been on here when their son played, and then to also be on here when their GRANDSON plays in the IIAC :D

Good luck to footballkid and all the other senior players over the next few weeks as your career winds down.  Make sure you enjoy it.

Thanks DDog, I appreciate the sentiment. Those twelve years of football went by very fast indeed.

Last week the Central punter had an 86 yarder which missed the school record by 2 yds.  From what I have heard of BV's football field, it is the place to go to get off a record punt.  The wind is supposed to be 10-15 mph NNW.  It would be one of those good news bad news things.  Good to get the record, bad to have to be punting from inside your own 12.

This is me and Mrs. Rex in our Halloween costumes.  We are Wartburg's chances of finishing the regular season undefeated.

Their pick for the Coe/Loras game was humorous

No. 16 Coe 40, Loras 10 — Put a blindfold on Coe QB Brad Boyle, the IIAC's reigning MVP, and this may be a even fight.

Especially if he is punting south to north since the field slightly tilts down that way and he can get a few extra yards.

The writing has been on the wall for awhile now for Cornell.  I realize they have struggled in football recently.  But travel in the Midwest Conference will be a beast.  I know Grinnell and others in the Midwest Conference claim a more selective education than that of the IIAC.  But, I think the IIAC stacks up well when it's time for their grads to head off to grad schools and what they accomplish after their school days are over.

Too bad, the Rams are a great rival for Coe, I hate to see this.

I don't think this would effect the rivalry (if you want to call it that) in any way.  Why would you not continue to play Cornell every year in each sport?  It's an in-region NCAA Division III game for every sport.
