The writing has been on the wall for awhile now for Cornell.  I realize they have struggled in football recently.  But travel in the Midwest Conference will be a beast.  I know Grinnell and others in the Midwest Conference claim a more selective education than that of the IIAC.  But, I think the IIAC stacks up well when it's time for their grads to head off to grad schools and what they accomplish after their school days are over.

Too bad, the Rams are a great rival for Coe, I hate to see this.

I don't think this would effect the rivalry (if you want to call it that) in any way.  Why would you not continue to play Cornell every year in each sport?  It's an in-region NCAA Division III game for every sport.

The travel is short for Coe as well.  The only negative for playing Cornell is that they drag down your SOS.  I hope it works out for the Rams.  I think Heys will always be here.  At least he is always welcome.

Cornell does more than explore

... The school (Cornell) has announced it is applying for membership to the Midwest Conference for the 2012-13 athletics season ...

Great weather here in Cedar Rapids this morning...too bad I'm stuck in the office for the 2nd weekend in a row!! Hopefully get off in time to catch the whole Iowa game though.  Good luck to Coe today...let's get another W!

Sometimes I need things spelled out....

Coe and Cornell came to the IIAC. Coe had success, but Cornell struggles in all categories of their athletics.
So Cornell wants to join the Midwest conference (considered a notch below) to be more competitive to get more recognized (visible)?
Or am I missing something here?

Sounds about right.  There is also a sizable group of faculty and administrators at Cornell that consider themselves an elite academic institution and feel the majority of MWC schools put athletics in their more proper place...an afterthought.

High school game went with out a hitch last night, but I'm finding myself watching the hits more than usual. Someone brought it up in previous posts about running backs.

Running backs put their head/helmet down many times in a game. I'm seeing it in all games. Not helmet to helmet, but leading with their helmets down.

I have always had the bias opinion that the late great Walter Payton was the best running back of all time. I can remember him putting his head down punishing anyone that got in his way.

My sons last senior home game last night. No home playoff games in the future. We're just hoping to make the playoffs. Ruff year.   :)

In reading further, Cornell came from the Midwest conference.

Wouldn't it be kind of funny if their application was denied by the Midwest conference?

Then what?
