Who is Boldin Showers in the ESPN college pick'ems?

I don't think I can catch you... :-[

If I'm not mistaken, he also is known as SpeedKills8 here ... a Cornell backer.

Maybe he'll go to another conference/group... ;D

Terrell Owens was asked for one word to describe himself. He said "confident." When asked for another word he said "very."

In reviewing UIU box scores, I see they have attracted 5230 for five home dates this year.  That averages 1046 per game.  The 5230 includes 1940 poor souls who attended the homecoming game and a home date with Winona State where it is reported the guests out numbered the home team fans.

I have no idea how they can fund a D2 program with numbers like this.

Well the ticket prices for the UIU games are $10 a seat.  I went to see the Peacocks for the first time ever last week when the lost to SWMS in OT.  IMHO I don't think they can play with Central,
Wartburg, or Coe but I do think they fall into the mix after that in the IIAC.  As far as run a program with the scholarships I bet if truth be told they are running at about the same levels of scholarship money as they were giving in financial aid when they were a D3 school.

I wish #42 for the Norse was on Wartburg's squad.  He seemed at times to gain yardage at will.  I see he has the same last name and is from the same hometown as a former Wartburg womens track & field standout.  I'd hate to think we had his sister or cousin on campus and missed out on him.

Was the Norse #3 who aided the Wartburg cause with a personal foul in the 4th quarter, the same #3 character who took the Norse out of the game in the 4th quarter last year with a personal foul?  If so, the Luther coaching staff needs to have a talk with the kid.

Maybe Willis needs a new roof on his home and can get him a job.   ;D ;D ;D Just kidding a little humor here

What do I have? 5 weeks to catch you? or are the bowls included?

What ever the case, I think I would be better off closing my eyes when picking!  :o

Walston,

let me congratulate you and your brother on two fine seasons so far.  It has been fun following your seasons.  Good luck Monday and keep the Maroons and Falcons going.

Thanks a lot. This has been a fun season. We've never both had such a good record. When his HS team won a title in '01, we were only 8-2 at Wartburg.
We are both hoping for bigger things but will be tested in rematches tomorrow night.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Tough game saturday against a good team and a rival.  A "W" is a "W" but we need to have a good week of practice this week to be ready for Central.

Saturday night was fun a Joe's but Sunday was a little foggy!!!   :o
Win or lose we still booze!!

The writing has been on the wall for awhile now for Cornell.  I realize they have struggled in football recently.  But travel in the Midwest Conference will be a beast.  I know Grinnell and others in the Midwest Conference claim a more selective education than that of the IIAC.  But, I think the IIAC stacks up well when it's time for their grads to head off to grad schools and what they accomplish after their school days are over.

Too bad, the Rams are a great rival for Coe, I hate to see this.

Do you guys get to keep Purple Heys?! ;D

Purple Heys has a life time contract with us ... I hope.

An attendant was sitting by the mail room when this Wartburg football player came down from his dorm room and went straight to his mailbox. He opened it then slammed it shut and stormed back up to his dorm. A little later he came down from his dorm room again, went to the mailbox and again opened it, and slammed it shut again. Angrily, he went back to the dorm room.

As the attendant was sitting there wondering what was going on, the football player came down again, marched to the mailbox, opened it and then slammed it closed harder than ever.

Puzzled by the football players actions the attendant asked him, "Is something wrong?"

The football player replied, "There certainly is!"

My stupid computer keeps saying, "You've got mail!"  ;D ;D

This question was asked on the MWC board: What is Cornell going to do with their wrestling program?  Wrestling is no longer a MWC sanctioned sport.  I sure hope the IIAC wouldn't allow them to maintain dual membership (IIAC for wrestling and MWC for everything else).

My guess would be if/when Cornell leaves, IIAC schools would schedule wrestling duals w/ the Rams. As for qualifying for National meet Cornell would go to a regional like MIAC schools who have wrestling have to.

I don't think this would effect the rivalry (if you want to call it that) in any way.  Why would you not continue to play Cornell every year in each sport?  It's an in-region NCAA Division III game for every sport.

If the Rams join the MWV straight in with no other changes, that's 11 MWC.  In football, if they played all other conference foes that leaves no non-conference game with the 'Hacks - bye-bye oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi.

A new conference was discussed and tabled, that included MWC and a MIAC team or two...maybe that's heating up again.

I have mixed feelings.  I hate seeing them lose.  They are at a competitive disadvantage in the IIAC...but I don't think it is totally hopeless.  Moving to a weaker football conference serves football, but how about other sports.  the Rams are making at some headway in other sports.  How does our wrestling team feel about this...they're a top 10-top 20 program.  Men's hoops, women's hoops and volleyball, and cross country are competing well as of the last few years.

I don't like it.  I understand it.  But I don't like it.  But if they do it, I will support it.

How did you think I felt? I had a three hour had start on you and stayed until after 1AM. Halloween has changed since the last costume party I attended. It was a great time and now the bar has been set for you next year!

I can't believe the people who schedule The Breeders Cup did it for the same day as the Central Wartburg game.  What were they thinking?  I'm still working on the horses but handicapping the football game, it seems to me like we are supposed to be able to rely on Wartburg for at least one really big choke each season.  How nice of them to save it for the Central game.

I don't think any MIAC schools are considering such a move.

1- they're already in a very strong academic conference.
2- the exponentially increased travel time and expenses would be seriously counter-productive to a "student first" mentality. Especially when 80% of their games are currently within an hour travel time (exception being the Cobbers)

I don't see the advantage to moving to the MWC.  The Cornell administration is saying they have a large alumni base in Wisconsin and Illinois that would like to see them playing their old rivals in the MWC and believe this will help recruiting and in the donation department.  I can understand Cornell has large numbers of alumni in those two states...do they think they will suddenly have 300 fans at away football games instead of 50?  Cornell just completed a $105million capital campaign, are middle of the conference in donations over the prior 4 years, and are the only school in the IIAC to have brought in more money than the previous year each of the last 4 years.  Will switching over the the MWC really bring in more money for Cornell?  While Cornell has struggled in football over the prior 5 years, their other sports are competitive in the IIAC.  There are 3 teams in the MWC that I think Cornell can beat rather easily in football, the top 5 or 6 teams in the MWC at this point I think Cornell would struggle to get wins against.  Is it worth it to Cornell for the added travel expense and added time away from the classroom to move to a new conference so they might be able to go 3-7 or 4-6 in football instead of 1-9 or 2-8?  Cornell has record enrollment now...as does Coe compared to their MWC days...does belonging to the IIAC give them more name recognition in the state of Iowa over being associated with the MWC and that has helped drive enrollment increases?
