The writing has been on the wall for awhile now for Cornell.  I realize they have struggled in football recently.  But travel in the Midwest Conference will be a beast.  I know Grinnell and others in the Midwest Conference claim a more selective education than that of the IIAC.  But, I think the IIAC stacks up well when it's time for their grads to head off to grad schools and what they accomplish after their school days are over.

Too bad, the Rams are a great rival for Coe, I hate to see this.

I don't think this would effect the rivalry (if you want to call it that) in any way.  Why would you not continue to play Cornell every year in each sport?  It's an in-region NCAA Division III game for every sport.

If the Rams join the MWV straight in with no other changes, that's 11 MWC.  In football, if they played all other conference foes that leaves no non-conference game with the 'Hacks - bye-bye oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi.

A new conference was discussed and tabled, that included MWC and a MIAC team or two...maybe that's heating up again.

I have mixed feelings.  I hate seeing them lose.  They are at a competitive disadvantage in the IIAC...but I don't think it is totally hopeless.  Moving to a weaker football conference serves football, but how about other sports.  the Rams are making at some headway in other sports.  How does our wrestling team feel about this...they're a top 10-top 20 program.  Men's hoops, women's hoops and volleyball, and cross country are competing well as of the last few years.

Midwest Conference currently has two divisions, so they might consider having a rotating schedule schedule with the other division, allowing teams to play multiple non-conference games.  Just a though.

Sunday IIAC news from the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald.

UD mens futbol wins share of IIAC title...http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=300720

The Knights have a 1/3 share of the IIAC soccer title.  I hope the doesn't happen in football.
True, I agree completely, they better lose both this week and the next.   :)

Currently the MWC only uses divisional play in men's and women's tennis, baseball and softball. Every other sport you play everyone. Divisional play was phased out when the Coe and Cornell left the conference in 1997. Maybe divisional play would return with the addition of Cornell. I'm sure Lake Forest would love to use it as an excuse to rejoin the Wisconsin schools in divisional play to reduce their amount of travel and be in the same division as more traditional rivals.

The new face of UD......

http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=300775

Featuring the new Willie University Residence halls...each room comes with king size beds, lava lamps, disco ball, and Barry White music on the sound system...and close to the football practice field so you can delay leaving for practice until the very last minute ;)

I think I totalled up a little over $140million in new construction going back to 1999 at UD.  That is impressive.  Now, hopefully in the near future Willie, DBQ1965 and I can talk about what's better...UD making the Stagg Bowl...or UD winning 5 straight IIAC titles ;)

Congrats to Boyle on some impressive achievements he accomplished over the weekend:

- Boyle now has over 5,000 career passing yards which is 4th most in school history
- Has had back to back 2,000 passing yd seasons (joins Andy Tekippe & Joe Brannen as the only ones in school history)
- Scored his 16th rushing TD of the season (4th on all-time single-season TD list)
- Moved up to 4th on the all-time TD list with 41 for his career

And the kid is only a Junior! Go Kohawks!

Warty,

Did you folks present a donation to Luther for Chris Norton at your game? I thought I read that the Wartburg community was going to do that.

Congrats on the win. It's looking like a real battle between you and Central in a few weeks.

There wasn't any kind of formal presentation.  I assume it will be some sort of low key deal.  In pregame there was an announcement about his improving condition and informatiion about the sharing of the concession sales.

Classy move to share the take from the concessions. It would be generous of Luther's next opponents to do the same. People need to remember this young man and his family.

Wartburg parents also took a collection at the Dubuque and Luther tailgates for his family. NKD may have more of the particulars. I would hope every school in the IIAC would do something for them. We're all family off of the field.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

I delivered the money donated from the tailgates the last two games to Coach Durnin after the game on Saturday and asked him to let the Norton family know our prayers are with them as Chris recovers.

Win or lose we still booze!!

I am indeed sorry that Cornell is leaving the IIAC.  Cornell has been a very good contributor to the status of the Iowa Conference and it is a loss to Iowa.

Though I suspect the IIAC will have only 8 teams, as I see no Iowa colleges willing to leave the NAIA. I would like to see Augustana given an invitation.  Augie would be a good fit and be very competitive in all sports.  Probably unlikely to leave the CCIW however.

IIAC will likely be a reduced 8 team conference.  Too bad.

Walston,

let me congratulate you and your brother on two fine seasons so far.  It has been fun following your seasons.  Good luck Monday and keep the Maroons and Falcons going.

Thanks a lot. This has been a fun season. We've never both had such a good record. When his HS team won a title in '01, we were only 8-2 at Wartburg.
We are both hoping for bigger things but will be tested in rematches tomorrow night.

I hope you and little brother can both be 14-0.  You two are good people and am rooting for you both.
