Another tragedy has befallen the Norse family.  Thunderbolt's 15-year old step-son was killed in a car accident a couple of weeks ago.

Life is a thousand times too short and when one is taken too soon the sorrow is a thousand times greater.  If you have a chance to give your kids an extra hug tonight, do it ... if they're off in the world and on their own, drop them a line to express your love ... and after you do, say a little prayer for those bereaved.

My prayers go out Thunderbolt's family. It makes no sense to lose someone so young.

WCF Courier Wartburg Playoff story

"I think our guys certainly do have confidence," Willis said. "They've finished unbeatean in a tough Iowa Conference and doing so in a very cahllenging way.

"We beat three teams whom were ranked in the top 25 at the time we played them. I think our guys have been in some big games and understand the way we have been able to win those big games and hopefully that will help them and carry over into the playoffs.

To add to the fun the NCAA D3 National Cross Country Championship are being held @ Wartburg. Women's Race @ 11 (Wartburg + Luther qualified). Men's race @ noon (Luther). The course is just North of Regent's Park.

Then that night is the Buzz Levick Basketball tournament consolation and final games.

OK Knights, now you're 0-0.
Let's show Bethel that Wavery isn't Pella and send them home losers.

I hope you don't have to play in an ice storm.  We lost to Bethel but I still believe on a dry field it may have been a different outcome.

I don't know -- both teams were playing in the same conditions that crappy, miserable day. I've always hated the "weather" excuse. The better team (the one who adjusted to the elements) won.

I'd like to think the best team won, but I'm way biased. ;)

I'll definitely agree with you on one thing...the conditions that day were 'crappy' and 'miserable'! Craziest weather for a FB game I've ever been a part of, or seen for that matter. It was crazy, but one of the great things about FB...you get to play in ridiculous elements that drive every other sport indoors or to a cancelation!

As will my Spartans....4-6 is not what the Spartan Nation expected but adversity builds character and character builds championship teams. Great finish to the season. 4-1 Home record with a 2 point heartbreaking loss to Coe. I hope it's a sign of great things to come at Chalmers Field.

After starting in a hole, the Spartans battled back and dominated the 2nd half led by outstanding running by Justin Spaulding. To be honest, he turned nothing into significant and drive prolonging runs all day. Tremendous effort. Also, the O-line and (3rd string to start the season) QB Levin did a great job in their roles to assist in the win. The defense came up with some big stops and did what it took to win.

It certainly was a season of ups and downs. In my opinion, the Spartans could have easily been 8-2 this year. 4 losses of less then a touchdown in the final minutes or seconds of play. I look for a hard working off season, a great recruiting class, the return of key players from injury, and a chance at a championship next year. Those freshman and soph starters will finally be soph and juniors...getting closer  ;)

Until next season or a hot topic I can't resist...

In a way, it's nice to see Spartan fans dissapointment with a 4-6 season.  Not too long ago we would have been dancing in the streets after this past season.

This season was dissapointing in some ways, but I do note there were a number of close losses.  Here's to hoping the close losses of this past season turn into close wins next year.

Good luck to the UD seniors in your future endeavors and thank you for your hard work on the field these past 4 years.  It has been appreciated.

Thunderbolt, you and your family have my deepest sympathy.  Unexpected loss is the hardest to deal with any time it happens, but when it is to a teenage child, that has to be the worst.  I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers along with the Norton family.

Congratulations to Wartburg on completing the undefeated season, I really didn't expect it after last year's results.  Best of luck to you in your game against Bethel.  Teams from the MIAC are never easy, at least you get them at home.

Congratulations to Coe on making it into the playoffs.  Glad to hear that the IIAC is deemed worthy of two playoff teams again this year!  Good luck against Wheaton!  Play like you did against Central and you should be able to move on to the next round.

Best of luck also to the Pella High Little Dutch playing at the UNI Dome tonight.  Would love to see you back at the dome again for the championship game.  Pella seniors, think about doing the SE Polk players thing and continue playing for the Dutch in college.  We would be proud to have you at Central the next four years!

Congratulations to Wartburg and Coe on their seasons!  8-)

The season continues for my senior son in high school!

In the past years the question was....Which top seed are we going to be?
This year, a complete and different story. Making the playoffs was an accomplishment in itself.

Last Friday we surprised the top seed with a 24-17 victory. How far can we go?
Just going to take one game at a time!  ;D
