I'll apologize for the Wartburg SID for any slights against Bethel UNIVERSITY.

This is precisely why we don't use "College" or "University" on D3sports.com unless it's necessary to tell two schools apart.

The following was from a post I made in April 2006.  I guess for once in my life I was correct.

My opinion on Osterberger...

In 2007 I worked the chains in a game I felt Cornell could have won.  I overheard the sideline comments of Osterberger during the game (not so nice) and lost some respect for him.  But upon reflection, I could imagine me as head coach flinging the same invectives if my team were on the verge of losing to Cornell.

In 2009 I witnessed Cornell's victory over Loras.  I thought back to 2007, and  about what might be going on over on the Loras sideline.  Then I witnessed the class and dignity with which Osterberger's coaches and team (except 1 a-hole kid) congratulated the Cornell team.  I spoke further to my son about what the opponents said (except for the 1 a-hole kid) and he told me they were totally classy about the whole thing.

So in summary, one can be defined by how they act in their darkest or lowest points...my opinion is that Osterberger is a class act and I wish him good luck in his future opportunities.

Osterberger is a piece of trash.  He should have been fired from BV long before he got hired at Loras.  The guy used money from our spring football fundraiser to buy new polo shirts and running shoes for the coaching staff.  He refused to go through the handshake line when he would lose to BV.  He would go on obscenity-laced tirades about Loras every time they were mentioned, right up until they hired him.  I can't say enough bad things about him, and I hope he ends up coaching a junior high team like he should have been doing in the first place.

BOY, don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel.

BOY, A lot of posters have trouble putting into words what they really feel.
Would you make it a little more clear on what you're trying to say?

Best of luck to Wartburg and Coe in the playoffs.  I haven't followed either that closely but they both appear to be speedy, experienced, balanced and deep which would seem to be a good formula for a playoff run.

Wonder if Osterberger will put his hat in the ring for the Dubuque senior job so he doesn't have to move. Certainly in an area the size of Dubuque he could find a job so he could coach as well.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Should the coaching staff use their own money or money from the budget to purchase shirts and shoes?  I've always thought the purpose of fund raisers is to raise money for things that aren't in the budget.   I can understand the other complaints you have but this one doesn't seem all that out of line.   JMO

I agree. Uniforms for coaches are just as manditory as uniforms for players. And with how many hours most assistants (especially grad assistants), throwing them a $40 shirt and shoes doesn't seem out of the question.

If I live to be 100, I'll never forget the night a similar thing happened in a Davenport Assumption/Muscatine game.  In our case the young man left the field and collapsed on the sidelines.  Everyone was stunned and basically helpless to give any assistance.  Coaches, peramedics and doctors did all they could do to save the young man on the Assumption team.  As the ambulance escorted by police cars left the field it was announced the varsity game was cancelled.  Five thousand people left Muskie Stadium and the only sounds you could hear were foot steps, sniffles, sobs, and crying.  Even the squirrelly little middle school kids understood they had just witnessed an awful event.  Eerie and so sad.

Although I dislike Wartburg (from a competitive standpoint and the fact they buy student-athletes to attend  ;D, I do like you warthog and appreciate your posts whatever the subject may be.

All the fundraising was done by the players, with the understanding that the team leadership council would decide how to spend the money.  Never once did someone in those meetings say that it would sure be nice if the coaches got new polo shirts and shoes.  If the leadership council had approved such an expenditure it would have been fine, but the money was supposed to be spent for practice equipment and equipment in the weight room.  We did not go around town collecting money to clothe our coaches.  We all bought our own cleats, workout shoes, etc.  Uniforms are (or at least used to be be) paid for out of a separate budget, partially funded through sales of BV apparel at games.  The point is that the way it was done was unethical and violated the trust of the players.

I like Wartburg and Coe's chances this weekend based on the "Party School Index."  A couple of years ago people on this board ranked Wartburg and Coe way above Central as party schools and we know how the Knights and Kohawks did against the Dutch this year.  From what I have heard, Central looks like New Orleans at Mardi Gras time next to Bethel and Wheaton.
