Pretty hard to talk football with nine months of off-season ahead of us.  I will say I am excited to see that Coe will be Central's Homecoming opponent in 2011.  I hope to be there so I hope both teams are undefeated and it will be a big game.  I don't think any Coe fans need to worry about getting attacked with garden tools like Central fans do when they go to Cedar Rapids, since you can't park your car anywhere around Schipper Stadium so that it blocks anyone's view of the game.

So that we don't go 2 whole days without something...more somewhat meaningless stats...from US news and world report college rankings.

School - enrollment - endowment - tuition & fees

Coe      - 1,287        - $73,522,947 - $30,860  => that is a lot of Crunchberry cereal box tops and proof of purchase marks per Coe student.  8-)

You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

Well, IIAC football talk is currently limited to how our fiends up north will do.  Here in Iowa we can think about IIAC wrestling.  With 6 IIAC teams occupying space in the most recent top 25 team rankings, (Wartburg #2, Coe #4, Cornell #10, Dubuque #11, Luther #18, Buena Vista #24) is this the year there is a new conference champion?  My Knights have occupied the top step for quite a long time, but in IIAC history there seems to be precedence for teams to have streaks as is comes to wrestling titles.  The rankings are also evidence that Cornell is competitive in some sports.  Perhaps my earlier reported observation, by a former Cornell regent, that the Rams should spend their time improving the football program instead of looking for a new conference holds water.  It should be a good year for the IIAC on the mats.

Central might not be in the mix when it comes to the conference wrestling title this year.  The Knights' home opener tonight was against the Dutch.  Wartburg eeked out a 51-0 victory.  All 10 wrestlers got bonus points.  Good start for the Knights.

I'll bite.  How about the IIAC and the Big Ten?

Conference dual win #143 in a row for the Knights.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

What makes that even more impressive is how strong the IIAC is in wrestling.

Hey Pat, any thoughts on making d3football and d3boards mobile friendly in the near future?  Just curious if any thoughts or planning have been put into it since it seems most siteare moving in that direction.

After football is over there is one minor upgrade and one major upgrade that I am looking into. The major upgrade is only a beta version, though, so I am not sure I want to run with it.

When did Sioux Falls, South freaking Dakota become a football hotspot?  They have the NAIA champ for 3 of the last 4 years (University of Sioux Falls) and an 11-1 team moving into the third round of the Div II playoffs (the other Augustana).  And based on their on-line rosters, it even looks like a fair number of both teams players come from the neighborhood.  If I were an IIAC coach I might try to make some recruiting connections up that way.  I guess I am pretty desperate for subject matter when I try to start a conversation about Sioux Falls.

Didn't Simpson HC Glogowski come from South Dakota???

Also interesting that both Augustana and USF are small, private colleges with enrollments/endowments/annual giving similar to IIAC schools.

Auggie and USF have some outstanding football facilities.

Sioux Falls is in the NAIA football playoffs the the last time this season.  Next year they will be in NCAA D-II.

Things have been a little dead, so lets liven it up a little.

I predict Wartburg will go 10-0 during the regular season again next year.  8-)

The opening game at Monmouth against a red-shirted quarterback (Mr. Tanney) may be a big hurdle. A new and improved UD at Chalmers Field and a rival game at Luther to end the season could be challenges.  Those issues aside, I'm thinkinking a returning quarterback, some stong defensive players, and having Coe & Central in the friendly confines of Walston-Hoover, makes for a very positive situation.   :D

OK hot-stove league fans, tell me where I'm wrong.  ???
