As a NW Iowa transplant living in Minnesota, nothing is more fun that reminding people up in the Twin Cities about what real wrestling greatness looks like. Goopher fans hate it!  ;D

Oh boy, Mount Union and UWW, I can hardly wait!

Thank God, I have something else planned on the afternoon of the Stagg (Who Cares?) Bowl.  I don't know what it is yet, but I'll have something else planned.

From the WIAC page ...

I must say, I was relieved to not see the name of UWRF alum Stan Zweifel on the list.  He needs to stay at UD and build that program.

Well that's no fun...no Willis on that list???

That could have provided at least a couple days worth of back and forths on here reguarding Warty ;D

Any truth that Cornell is looking to leave IIAC--maybe return to the MWC?
Has the Cornell to IIAC been a good fit?

Coe seems to love playing in the IIAC while Cornell has yet to find its footing?

Long story short...Cornell informed the IIAC last fall they wanted to leave for the MWC and have filed some sort of notice to the MWC they would like to be readmitted to that conference for the 2012-2013 school year.

Cornell has struggled mightily in football during their IIAC tenure, while Coe has been a top tier team during that same time.  In other sports, Cornell has done just fine in the IIAC.  The Rams won the mens basketball title 2 years ago and are competitive in most other sports.

If you scroll back through this thread its been talked about pretty thoroughly.

Most of us don't want to see Cornell leave and are hoping something will happen to keep them in the IIAC.  If they do leave...warthog is hoping Cornell is replaced by Iowa Wesleyan...former member of the IIAC, swap one Methodist school for another, they are really really close to Muscatine so Warthog can finally have a short road trip to see his Knights play ;)

Wow that is huge--thought is was just a rumor...

I am curious as to who would then go to the MWC as that would give them 11--Chicago? Maclester?

as the world turns.....

I knew that were in trouble when Iowa legend Matt Dillon abandoned ship...

You can find out some additional info from the MWC board.

There is a rumor the MWC might try to add Cornell and Macalester and then tell St. Norbert, Carroll, and Illinois College to take a hike.  As you say...as the world turns...

And uh, Matt Dillon didn't exactly abandon ship ;)

rome

Really...the alum Dillon did leave on his own accords?

Cornell was best running split back veer anyway ;D

As far as SNC--Carrol--IC all getting the boot---I couldn't see that happening but you never know ;)

doolittledog: If that were my only criteria I'd pick another former IIAC member, St. Ambrose.  That would really be close for me.
Alas, I don't think St. Ambrose would give up their NAIA status.  The tiny "athletic" scholarships they can offer differentiates them from them from Augustana (D3) across the river.  If they were both NCAA D3 and playing each other regularly, Augustana would dominate them.  As it is Augie's academic and fine arts reputation exceeds that of St. Ambrose.  Were they in the same athletic classification it would be a trifecta for Augustana.
So perhaps my best option is Iowa Wesleyan.  Just so long as you don't recommend bringing back Billy Pennsylvania.

IIAC DISCUSSION...
No one will join the Iowa Conference in the next several years and it will remain an 8 team conference unless Cornell changes its mind......which is unlikely.

Aside:  Hawkeyes seem to have imploded in their backfield !!

I'd argue with the bolded part.  They have ONE conference title in 13 years of being in the league.  That was in Women's tennis quite some time ago.  They won the conference tournament in Men's hoops, not the league title.  They really have never been a top three team for any consistent period of time in any other IIAC sports.

Former Wartburg Coaches News

Alumni coach in NCAA championship game Saturday
The University of Minnesota Duluth, coached by Bob Nielson '82, will face Delta State University in the NCAA Division II football championship game Saturday, Dec. 18. The teams will meet in Florence Ala., where conditions should be better than Saturday's semifinal game in Duluth, where the wind chill was -14 as the Bulldogs defeated Northwest Missouri State, 17-13. Nielson was head football coach at Wartburg from 1991 to 1995. He also served as director of admissions and athletic director during his years on the staff. www.umdbulldogs.com/news.php?id=5454

Service Saturday for former football coach
Lee Bondhus, head coach of the Wartburg football program from 1965 to 1972, died Sunday, Dec. 12, in Sioux Falls, S.D., where he was undergoing treatment for a recurrence of lung cancer. His funeral will be Saturday, Dec. 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook, Minn. Other details are pending. Bondhus led the 1968 Knights to the Iowa Conference title with a 7-1 record. He coached 30 all-Iowa Conference players and three All-Americans at Wartburg. He was last on campus in September 2008 for a 1968 team reunion.
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.
