With Luther/Wartburg and Central/Simpson scheduled for 11/12...I would guess UD is playing Loras at Chalmers field on 11/12 and the IIAC has finally made a rivalry weekend for us.  

My guess is that either 10/15 or 10/22 is the bye week for UD and we will have a whole season of an away game followed by a home game.  Not bad in my estimation.

After reading about all the issues with the Iowa Hawkeyes, I'm reminded again about the high quality young men who play football in the IIAC.

Alumni coach in NCAA championship game Saturday
The University of Minnesota Duluth, coached by Bob Nielson '82, will face Delta State University in the NCAA Division II football championship game Saturday, Dec. 18. The teams will meet in Florence Ala., where conditions should be better than Saturday's semifinal game in Duluth, where the wind chill was -14 as the Bulldogs defeated Northwest Missouri State, 17-13. Nielson was head football coach at Wartburg from 1991 to 1995. He also served as director of admissions and athletic director during his years on the staff. www.umdbulldogs.com/news.php?id=5454

He had a big part in the success in the early 80's while still a senior @ the Wart & while in grad school. A pretty good offensive mind even back then!

Mierkiewicz went  65-41 in his 10 seasons at Hastings.

Athletic Director Bob Quinn expressed his thoughts on Mierkiewicz's hiring on Thursday as well.
 
"Paul has a very clear vision for what he sees as the future of Loras College football, and that vision will serve our student-athletes very well," Quinn said. "I'm confident he will serve the young men on our football roster and the Loras community very well as he works towards achieving the goals we've discussed. His understanding of Duhawk football past and present gives him the unique ability to lead our program."

This statement from the article leads me to believe they will be going after more Chicago parochials...

Mierkiewicz is a native of Morton Grove, Illinois. He and his wife Heather have two daughters, Jensen and Abigail. His time spent in the Catholic education system includes both his time at Loras College and at Notre Dame High School (Niles, Illinois).  He will begin his duties with the Duhawks on Monday, December 20.

He has a chance to play right away and there are kids on the roster from FL (he'll feel more at home), and it will be academically challenging.   

Seriously though, you folks need to begin recruiting schools too.  Find schools that have the academics he wants and the other things he's looking for in a school.  Then go on their football website and fill out the "recruit me" information form that most all D3 schools have.  Then, answer back promptly to those coaches that reply to indicate your interest...from there develop the relationship, and you have a strong chance of having an excellent D3 football experience.
