Grad school is officially on hold...Jr. signed last Friday with the Oklahoma City Bricktown Brawlers of the IFL.   :)

Damn-it Cali, where did the negotiations break down?

I had a Headhunter jersey made up for him and everything.

Seriously though, you folks need to begin recruiting schools too.  Find schools that have the academics he wants and the other things he's looking for in a school.  Then go on their football website and fill out the "recruit me" information form that most all D3 schools have.  Then, answer back promptly to those coaches that reply to indicate your interest...from there develop the relationship, and you have a strong chance of having an excellent D3 football experience.

Seriously, or do you want us to run his laps for him too.

I have finally figured out that what bothers me that this is the 22nd consecutive Amos Alonzo P. Stagg Bowl that Central isn't playing in, not that it is the 6th consecutive Whitewater, Mt. Union match up.

There are less than 24 hours to kick-off of the first bowl game of the season.  That means there is still time to joint the 3 already signed up for the IIAC group on ESPN's College Bowl Mania.  To join us ... click on this link:

http://games.espn.go.com/bowlmania/en/frontpage

then register or sign in ... and joint the IIAC 2010 group ... password is

First  I fully recognize and respect the accomplishment that it takes for MU and UWW to get to this level of superiority.  That said it bothers me that it's the same teams...they're doing their inadvertent best to debunk the assertion that a playoff is the best thing for college football.  The chasm is so large between these two teams and the rest of D3 so as to make what should otherwise be the most exciting part of the season into a ho hum, yeah whatever game.   Kind of like Women's D1 basketball.  There's something to be said for parity.

To me, the most exciting times are the weeks when the 32 playoff teams are announced and then, when the 14 1st round games that don't have MU or UW-W in them are played...after that it becomes a boring 3 week cool down next-victim-watch to the inevitable, annual MU/UWW game.

Maybe next year will this little members only party will get broken up...one can only hope.

Trine was tied with UWW entering the 4th quarter.

NCC LED UWW entering the 4th quarter.

An all-purple Stagg is NOT inevitable.

I don't know enough about the full rosters of teams (even my own ;)) to say for sure, but I suspect it is depth of quality players.  UMU and UWW can sub all the way to the 52nd guy on the playoff roster without losing much (if anything); other teams begin to significantly drop off by the 30th, 35th, 40th player.  By the 4th quarter, UMU and UWW either have already won the game, or are fresh enough (due to the greater ability to sub without penalty) to 'kick ass'.  Someone pointed out that UWW is something like 56-0 in the 4th quarter in these playoffs. :o

Yeah, yeah, yeah.  Run with that belief...it's what may finally, actually keep what has been inevitable for the last 3 years from happening next year or maybe the year after that, or maybe the year after that.

Moral victories count for jack squat.  Final scores are the metric, not the halftime score, not the 3rd quarter score.  Until a D3 team outscores UW-W or MU after 4 quarters are complete, all you get to say is "well we didn't get blown out".  A loss is loss and to paraphrase a tome about a rose, still smells as bad.

That said, congrats to UW-SP for their 2008 win over UW-W...it's worth remembering.

Mr. Ypsi

PH, I'm just saying that the Purple Stagg is not inevitable (albeit probable ;)).

Both Trine and NCC came pretty darned close to preventing it this year.  Alas, Trine graduates the Gagliardi winner (Eric Watt), and NCC graduates the likely national DPOY (Matt Wenger).

Neither UMU or UWW has managed what Augustana did in the 80s (FOUR consecutive Stagg wins), and Augie is now just a good, far from great, team.  UMU and UWW WILL fall, I just can't tell you when! :D
