I really hate being old and cynical, but did anybody outside SE Wisconsin and NE Ohio care who won the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl yesterday?  I would like to see different teams in the game next year.  I don't blame UWW and Mount Union for the situation; other colleges need to get measurably better. It would be fun to see some other teams make a serious move to the top of the leader board.

Then again if I were a UWW or a Mount Union fan I would like this situation just fine.  I guess to a less visable degree we have the same situation with Augsburg and Wartburg in wrestling.  It would probably be good if another team won the national title, but as a Wartburg fan I like things just the way they are.

Even as a WW alum I have a hard time seeing how anyone could not like watching these games.  Sure its the same two schools, but it is far from the same two teams.  Every year, new guys are in key positions and new heros emerge.  The games are never blow outs and there is always explosive plays and huge momentum swings.  Apart from the ESPN crew never showing anyone but UMU fans coming out of commercial, things are always different on the field.

I agree teams need to get better to get there, but I'd rather no one gets better and WW stays at the same level of play they are at now  ;D

Yaawwwnnn...what, you said something? I fell asleep and when I woke up and saw the final score, thought I woke up in 2007.   ;)

The real questions are how and why do teams get to this stage of development and sustain it for such an extended length of time?

Out in California, De La Salle (Concord, CA) High School ran up a 151 game winning streak, they have 19 straight CIF North Coast Section Division 1 Titles, the coach has an incredible 371-24-3 W-L-T record, and they duck nobody.  What's more, even though it's a parochial school, they do it relatively normal sized kids...their OT's went 6' 212 and 6' 223; OG's 6'1" 211 and 6'2" 246; C 5'10" 209.  It is a thing of beauty to watch them fire out in unison EVERY play.  The team they beat last night, Servite, was one of the top defensive teams in the state...but you would never know it as they got lit up 48-8.  Servite played one of the toughest schedules in the country and went 14-0, victims included 2 U.S. top 25 teams and 6 CA top 25 teams.  They had a size advantage and supposedly a speed advantage.  Apparently the De La Salle coaches forgot to tell their kids this...

So in winning in D3 with such incredible frequency when most teams basically have access tot he same talent base, the constants are obviously the coaches in programs like these...but how much is attributable to the players they bring in....could coaches like Leipold or Kehres, pick up and move to another school and within 3-4 years have something approximating their current success?  Could they do it just anywhere?  What is it they do that is that much better than any other D3 coach?

Nice one...that deserves +k for a week...with an extra k thrown in for Jr signing to play indoor football...to the dismay of coocoo and the ladies at the Dancers Ranch :D

Anybody else figure out their favorite teams schedule yet???

I think the next IIAC school to get to the Stagg Bowl will be the one that figures out a way to make its campus most attractive to minority students.  Central has been trying to diversify its student body for years and, based on nothing but what I see around campus at homecoming, progress is slow.  My new ambition is to get rich enough to pay for Central to send a recruiter to Samoa.

I just read on the WIAC page that Michael Zweifel did receive a medical redshirt and will be playing for the Spartans in 2011.  Any confirmation of that?

Send 'em to SoCal...specifically North County San Diego...plenty of sons of the Pacific Islands.  If Cornell can't land 'em, then let the rest of the IIAC have at 'em.  This is Junior Seau and Pisa Tinoisamoa territory...plenty of Taele's, Lavea's, Pao Pao's, Manumaleumu's, and Tuimavave's...and pregame Haka's.

Hmm, that would be interesting if true.  That would mean next year Dubuque could be returning...

QB - Wyatt Hanus Jr...as a Sophomore had a 137.7 passer rating 63.5 completion % 8td - 3int and was averaging 231 passing yards per game in 7 games before going down for the season with mono.

RB - Justin Spaulding  Sr...2nd in the IIAC in rushing each of the past 2 seasons.

WR - Demacus Fleming Sr...1st in the IIAC in receiving yards, 2nd in receptions...after becoming the featured receiver 5 games into the season

WR - Michael Zweifel Sr...as a Junior he led the IIAC in receptions, receiving yards, TD's

TE - Miles Hookstead  Jr...starter as a freshman with 24 receptions for 259 yards and 3 TD's, starter as a sophomore with 31 receptions for 281 yards and 4 TD's

Combine that with an offensive line getting a year older and that could turn a lot of those close losses from last season into some close wins next season.  At least I hope so ;)

I know we've been through this before, but does he really qualify for one? I belive someone posted the redshirt rules and Zweifel had surpassed the number of games allowed.

I remember playing against NE MO State (DII powerhouse @ the time) & they had a # of players from Pago Pago American Samoa. It seemed as though they were all 6'3" & 300lbs. Needless to say, they created some matchup problems!!
