The rule, to my understanding (and I am not an NCAA compliance officer), is actually 33%, rounded up.

If you are correct, and I have no reason to dispute your statement and it is rounded up to 40% then him playing in 4 games or 40% of the schedule he would have played in one to many games correct?

I was under the impression he was already granted the medical redshirt and will be returning for the 2011 season so wondering why this is a topic anymore? Correct me if my impression was wrong, please.

Pep,

What a fitting tribute to ole '92.

Plus K for you and the 'van!
What an inspiring story.  It has been my ambition, with every car I've owned, to drive it for many hundred thousand happy miles, making minor repairs and doing periodic maintenance until everything fails at the same time and I coast up to the junk yard, two quarts low on oil with an empty gas tank on evenly bald tires on the day the license and insurance expires.

This is eerily similar to what I overheard my wife speaking to her mother about me when I was half asleep on the couch...  ;D

I love it -- great story, Pep. :)

What did you buy to replace the Pep Wagon?

Pep's boss at AU, after driving his 2000 Dodge Caravan for ten years, was upgrading, and, given the fact it needed considerable work and that he'd receive nothing on trade-in, offered it to Pep. Pep has already put about 50,000 miles on it after taking title to it in January 2009.

My wife is still driving our 1999 Caravan with over 220,000 on the clock. Can't get her out of it.

You could probably call the IIAC or NCAA office for an explanation. Otherwise, I assume you have to trust that the powers to be in those offices did their research before making a decision.

From your past posts, you don't believe he is that good or a significant enough player to make a difference anyway so why even be worried about it  ???

I remember you saying at one point that if the wartburg QB threw the ball as often to any one of their WR's, they'd have the same production as M Zweifel and even alluded to them being just as good.

I could care less if one of your players is granted a medical redshirt. If he deserves it and fits within the guidelines of the IIAC or NCAA, then great for the athlete. Everyone should be happy, now we should be easier to defend next year  ;D

I've never seen M Zweifel play, but it sure sounds like to me that he's a great player. If his stats are so high because the qb continues to through to him, he still has to do that magic thing called...catching the ball.
Hypothetically...if he didn't qualify to play, I think that would suck. If I was on a team playing against UD, I would want them to have their best players out on the field. Even so, I wouldn't wish for any player not to have the eligibility or opportunity to play.

Once again Willie, you are wrong about me. I have NEVER said that Zweifel was not a good player. I challenge you to quote me where I said he wasn't. I did say that there are several other receivers in the conference who given the same opportunities would produce similar numbers. I believe Pat even alluded to the same thing.

As far as his redshirt, if he gets it, good for him. It's just that the way the rules have been explained on here that he might have used up his elegibility. I guess we're just looking for a clarification.
