I just heard a good review of the movie "Cedar Rapids," on the radio.  Anyone seen it yet?  I hear it is going to make Cedar Rapids a vacation destination just like the covered bridges and the field of dreams.  My favorite view of Iowa in the movies is "Michael," where John Travolta plays an angel.

I often wondered how Iowa makes it way into a lot of movies?
for example...Where did James T Kirk grow up? Iowa
So I did a search of movies that were made in Iowa....

I was really surprised on the long list.

I don't doubt it!

Us Wartburg kids thought we could find all kinds of trouble to get into in Waterloo.  It only took one weekend trip to visit friends at UD to find out we had nothing to brag about when it came to off campus activities.

Since it is getting into crunch time for DIII recruiting, does anyone know if any high school conferences/counties, etc. in Iowa host recruiting fairs?  Have they in the past?  I know in other states like Florida, Texas, Ohio, Arizona, they are held almost every weekend this time of the year.  I know Iowa doesn't have the concentration of schools as these other states, but seems like a great way to get exposure to kids who might go unnoticed.

Heys, how did Jr's game go?

Heys, you might want to tell the Brawlers press guy that there is a difference between Cornell College and Cornell University.

Congratulations to the Wartburg Wrestling team on winning their 19th straight conference championship.  The finals were like a dual meet. (Wartburg vs. IIAC)  The Knights had a grappler in the championship match in all ten weight classes, winning seven of them.  As expected Coe was second.  Dubuque edged Cornell for third, but the Rams proved they could challenge in certain sports.

How Wartburg's Coach Miller can lead such a dominating performance and not be COY is amazing.  That honor went to Randy Steward, the Loras coach, for a dazzling fifth place finish.

Dubuque ended up with only two national qualifiers while Cornell had six and Loras had four.  Those two Spartans must have racked up some impressive numbers to give their team enough points for third place in the meet. The top three wrestlers at each weight qualify.

If those Wisconsin Democrat State Legislators had any sense they wouldn't have gone to Chicago to hideout.  They would have been better served to have crossed the Mississippi at Prairie du Chien and headed over to Gunder claiming political asylum at the Irish Shanti Bar and Grill.  Experiencing Gunderburgers made with Iowa beef and drinking Iowa brewed Hub City Beer may have kept them on the west bank of the river forever.

I'll add my congrats to the Knights for that performance, its an amazing domination of a damn good wrestling conference.  Goo duck at nationals.  Also like to note Central's move up from the bottom spot, ahead of BV and the Storm.  Maybe the Dutch are finally heading in the right direction here!  Go Dutch!

I enjoyed a bit of the Brown Ale at the Hub City Brewery yesterday, quite a tasty treat.  Now I just have to get to Gunder this spring.

Did someone mention Cornell?  :-*

Nope. Cornell's streak ended in 2009.

Heys, how did Jr's game go?

Up and down...  First thing, he started, and did not look overmatched or out of place.  He shoved folks around pretty good and blocked very aggressively.  He had one ball thrown his way he should of caught.  Two others were not catchable.  He admittedly made some rookie mistakes, but he also crushed some DB's and LB's.  Better days are ahead as long as he continues to work.  It's a different game, speed and quick reactions are a must.  He got gassed at the end of each half...he's one of the receivers in motion getting a full head of steam on almost every play, then he has to line it up and do it again.  There are also some very large people out there (whether they are in good shape or not, they are huge)

The game was VERY sloppy.  Having no preseason game and only a week and a half on the field prior seemed rushed.  They lost 39-22 after leading 16-14 at half.  Reggie Ball from Ga. Tech is the QB.  The syncing on the receivers moving toward the L.O.S. presnap was way off leading to several False Start penalties which just killed momentum.  They have a bye this week which should help get things ironed out.

It was fun watching him play.   :)

...The hijinks are similar to when Purple Heys first visited Cedar Rapids :P

Hijinks...right.  They all get sloshed on Sierra Nevada and kidnap the Ram's mascot for a party at the Sleep Inn.

Wait a minute...how did you find out about that?    :o
