...The hijinks are similar to when Purple Heys first visited Cedar Rapids :P

Hijinks...right.  They all get sloshed on Sierra Nevada and kidnap the Ram's mascot for a party at the Sleep Inn.

Wait a minute...how did you find out about that?    :o

What happends in Mt. Vernon doesn't always stay in Mt. Vernon...coocoo spilled the beans :D

What were you trying to do? Go on double-secret probation?

Congratulations to the Wartburg Wrestling team on winning their 19th straight conference championship.  The finals were like a dual meet. (Wartburg vs. IIAC)  The Knights had a grappler in the championship match in all ten weight classes, winning seven of them.  As expected Coe was second.  Dubuque edged Cornell for third, but the Rams proved they could challenge in certain sports.

How Wartburg's Coach Miller can lead such a dominating performance and not be COY is amazing.  That honor went to Randy Steward, the Loras coach, for a dazzling fifth place finish.

Dubuque ended up with only two national qualifiers while Cornell had six and Loras had four.  Those two Spartans must have racked up some impressive numbers to give their team enough points for third place in the meet. The top three wrestlers at each weight qualify.

The article I just read said UD qualified 3 for the tournament. I also skimmed through all of the brackets and it appeared as if UD had a lot of 4th-6th place finishes which ultimatekly helped the team scores.

Regardless, best finish for the Spartans in 40 years!!

The Spartans have steadily improved each year since Coach Jon McGovern took over as Head Coach. Both being a top team in the toughest D3 conference for wrestling in the nation AND at the national level.......yet he never wins a Coach of the Year???? I call BS and just shows you the political BS that goes on to some degree every year.

I can understand the IIAC not wanting to give Coach Miller the COY award EVERY year.  But come on, even Wartburg doesn't always qualify wrestlers from every weight class.  He should have won it this year.  If not, you have Coe ranked in the top 5 in the nation and Jon McGovern that has built up UD and just finished in 3rd place for their highest finish in 40 years yet the Loras coach gets COY for the 3rd time and he finished in 5th place.  But, from what I have read over the years he does seem to be a pretty good guy and has spoken very highly of Josh Terrell from UD, which is appreciated.

As for IIAC football next year...most schedules are posted, coaching changes have been announced, now we just have to wait for some news from spring practice...and then hopefully a little recruiting news will trickle in here and there.

A guy wins Coach of the Year 9 times and Wartburg fans are still complaining.

You are probably correct Willie.  When I posted the conference had 33 qualifiers.  The article indicated they would be getting two more.  How that works, I do not know.  Regardless, good for the Spartans in getting another wrestler in the tournament.

Only complaining because it was such a dominating performance.

Should Coe win the football conference title with an undefeated season, shut out over half of the other teams, and not have a close conference game all season, I would expect Coach Staker to be COY.  If some guy from the fifth place team ended up with the award I would consider it a miscarriage of justice.

The third UD wrestler to get in was Ryan Warcynski at 157.  Also getting in was Cornell's Tim Hood.

Hey fbd, you're ugly, and so's your mama  :P

So, with kids graduating...will parents on here still be making the rounds to IIAC football fields next fall???  Or maybe I should word it...if you're still making it to games, can I still show up at your tailgates and down food and brews with you ;D

I resemble that remark, but be careful of footballmomma. She'll thump you so hard you'll have to pull up your shirt to order a hamburger!  ;D
