OUCH!

My take on those stats.  We have often talked on here that most schools in our conference hope to bring in around 60 freshmen for their football team and hope to have 20 left for their senior season.  That gives you a 33% ratio.  Either the rest of your teams have near 100% graduation rates to get you up in the 60% - 70% range or you have a lot of kids that drop off the football team but stay at your school and eventually earn a degree.  It's most likely that most schools have kids that drop off the football team but stay at that school.  That is much more likely to happen if you have a roster made up of roughly 90% Iowa kids.  Dubuque, in the past, often had teams that were 90% kids from out of state...way out of state like Florida.  For those kids it was highly unlikely they would stick around and get their degree from UD after leaving the football team.  And that would contribute greatly to UD having a graduation rate lower than the rest of the conference.  I expect those figures to rise for UD now that they are recruiting kids closer to home...for all sports at the school.

I listened to 1650 the fans coverage of the boys state basketball tourney today and sportsknight did an excellent job with the pbp of the NU High game.  He was a good advertisement for the product the Wartburg broadcasting major develops at the school.

Awkward moment of the day was just after that game ended I stopped in at the Kum & Go in Grundy Center, and after spotting a woman wearing a University of Dubuque sweatshirt I told her I was a UD alum and she responded with "I applied to their seminary program but I didn't get in"  I just put my head down and said sorry.  She must not be too upset if she is wearing the schools gear around town though.

I hope he becomes an All-American again.  He is a fun kid to watch.  No pushing, shoving and dancing for him.  He goes full bore all the time.  If my Knights didn't have a dog in the fight at this weight I'd wish for him to be the national champion.  Should my guy get eliminated from championship contention, I'm on the Josh Terrell band wagon.

IIAC is guaranteed at least one national champion in D-3 wrestling when Coe's Nick LeClere faces off against UD's Josh Terrell in the 165 lb. championship final tonight.

Wartburg has 3 wrestlers in the finals ... Augsburg has 3 ... but I don't think its enought for Augies to catch the Knights ... and they face each other in 2 national finals.

IIAC picked up two national champions in D-3 track and field ... Kurtis Brondyke, Central College in the Pentathalon ... and Phillip Jones, UD, in the 55-meter dash.
