Wartburg looking for new SID
Mark Adkins is moving on. He will be missed.
NORTHFIELD, Vt. --- Norwich University  has hired Mark Adkins as its sports information director, effective July 1.

Adkins has been the sports information director at Wartburg College in Waverly, since August 2000 where he managed sports information for 19 varsity athletic programs.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

It seems Wartburg and GVSU like to trade coaches back and forth ;)

Those look like two strong hires for the Knights...and nice to have the website include a pic of the Dubuque game for me :D

doolittle: This picture is much better than the photo of the Spartans celebrating in front of the Knights' scoreboard that graced the UD web-site a couple years ago.  Everytime I went to look up something concerning UD athletics that image brought tears to my eyes .  :'(

For 2011, Wartburg @ Monmouth and Coe @ Hardin-Simmons both show up on D-3's front page for Top 25 Games kicking off the season.

DBQ1965: You may be correct, but I think those are just opening week games being played that include teams that finished in the Top 25 at the end of last season.  Regardless, I think the Coe and Wartburg games that weekend would make either list.

Are you talking about this picture?

or this one?

Just kidding...every 20 years or so we get to celebrate...though we are working hard at becoming a conference power ;D

I give Wartburg props on this.  Most places shut the scoreboard off immediately after a loss.  Kudos to them for letting UD celebrate and pose for pictures.  I only hope they celebrated with some humility.

doolittle: Yep, those are the pictures.  I have to be brief.  I just called my psychiatrist, my psyco-analyst, my grief counselor, my alchoholics anonymous support group, and my pastor.  Thanks to you I have scheduled sessions with all five of them yet this afternoon.  The pain just won't go away, the images are burned on my brain! :P

Well I guess some pictures of a Spartan victory and Warthog's impending mental breakdown have certainly put a damper on the board.

It isn't hard to tell we are in the slow season.  I'll try a little football talk.  Looking forward to the 2011 football season, I don't have my normal Central fan's optimism.  I have been thinking about last season to figure out what Central will have to do to reclaim its proper spot at the top of the IIAC.  The thing I have come up with is that The Dutch need to get back the special teams advantage.  In the two games Central lost last year, there were two really key fumbles, but I don't want to talk about those.  Against Coe, Central missed both of its field goal tries and in the Wartburg game, they had both a punt and a field goal blocked against them.  I was afraid this would happen once the kicking coach was no longer the college president.  What makes it especially scary is that Central loses a lot of talent this year including both the punter and place-kicker.  I'm pretty sure both were four year starters.  I know they were both big contributors to the team's success during their careers.  I hope the team finds some talented toes to take their places.

I have my usual Spartan rosie outlook I always do this time of year.

UD currently has 66 on their roster...49 of which are from Iowa/Illinois/Wisconsin.  Dubuque will be returning their starting QB, RB, and their whole receiving corp.  Take that with a line that is gaining experiance and I look for 2011 to be the season UD becomes a player in the conference title talk.

I don't have a real rosy outlook for the Knights either. We graduated a large number of Seniors that made major contributions on both sides of the ball. couiple that with some coaching changes and things may not go as soothly as last year. Wartburg always has a great group ready to step up and play, but with the lack of experience at many positions the start of the season may be a little scary. Monmouth must be licking it's chops getting ready of the opening game there. If we can keep our QB upright, we'll have a chance but I don't look for a repeat season from last year.

A good outlook to have.  GO SPARTANS!

You still have the same admissions and financial aid departments, right?  ;)

Hey Cali...any news re: Cornell to the Midwest Conference?  I assume it's a done deal but I have not heard anything official yet.
