Well now people can't say we always agree anymore.   ;D

I will have the same quiet confidence Wartburg fans showed last year.

I don't have a real rosy outlook for the Knights either. We graduated a large number of Seniors that made major contributions on both sides of the ball. couiple that with some coaching changes and things may not go as soothly as last year. Wartburg always has a great group ready to step up and play, but with the lack of experience at many positions the start of the season may be a little scary. Monmouth must be licking it's chops getting ready of the opening game there. If we can keep our QB upright, we'll have a chance but I don't look for a repeat season from last year.

Win or lose we still booze!!

Hey Cali...any news re: Cornell to the Midwest Conference?  I assume it's a done deal but I have not heard anything official yet.
The last I heard, the Midwest Conference presidents were going to be voting soon. My memory is a little fuzzy about how that conversation went but I'm pretty sure that's what I was told.

You still have the same admissions and financial aid departments, right?  ;)

I look for the Knights to be just fine this fall.

Some experienced and huge O-Linemen returning.

Several all-IIAC selections returning.

New coaches coming have some good experience from similar systems.

More fans in the stands since the two little Warthogs born last summer will be ready to cheer on the Knights.

Not to worry, 1st or 2nd in the IIAC.  Any where from 8-2 to 10-0 regular season.

The more things changed the more they stay the same.  ;D

"Six U.S. Army ROTC cadets will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants during a May 12, 2010 ceremony at the University of Dubuque.  The ROTC Eagle Company, headquartered at the University of Dubuque, is open to students from all three Dubuque institutions - UD, Loras, and Clarke - as well as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville."
I didn't know any of the IIAC institutions had a ROTC program.  Do any of the others?

Sad to see Cornell leave.  It makes sense for Cornell and Grinnell to belong to the IIAC.

That said, if they weren't even going to try to compete, then it is better for them to leave for the MWC.

The press release mentioned over and over the strong academics of the MWC.  I take that as a dig against the IIAC and our academics.  We have strong academic institutions and some are members of the ACM.  We also like to promote our athletic teams and like to see them do well on the national stage.  Something Cornell and Grinnell seem unwilling to do so they continually push their strong academic traditions and treat athletics as an afterthought.

This should make scheduling a bit more difficult in the future.  It will be interesting to see where this takes us.

You know the WIAC is always looking for an extra game to fill their schedules ;)

UW-Platteville had to drop Dubuque this year...a school that is 20 miles away because the WIAC is forcing member schools to play a 2nd game against another WIAC school and count it as a non-con game.  Platteville and Osh-Kosh and some others have scheduled games against IIAC competition...though perhaps we'll shy away from Whitewater ;)

out of curiosity...why the interest in changing coneferences for Cornell's football program?

I imagine the MWC will be a little less competitive for Cornell. But I doubt that's the reason to jump ship, but what do I know....

If last year's selection committee taught us anything, it's that SOS is VERY highly regarded come selection time. Either Coe/Central/Wartburg and Whitewater would greatly benefit from playing one another if they were to meet in the regular season.

But like doolittledog said, the WIAC is a little handcuffed now that we have to play a member of the WIAC as one of our nonconference games...to save $$$$

Cornell in IIAC play the past 8 years
2010 : 0-8
2009 : 1-7 23-16 win against a 2-6 Loras
2008 : 0-8
2007 : 0-8
2006 : 0-8
2005 : 1-7 25-21 win against a 1-7 Dubuque
2004 : 1-7 13- 0 win against a 1-7 Dubuque
2003 : 2-6

There are also a number of Cornell alumni that have now grown into their prime donation years that have been saying the MWC was fine for Cornell while they were at school...why couldn't it be again?  The Cornell administration would rather funnel money (they just completed a $100+ million dollar capital campain) towards academics instead of athletics...which is fine.  Low paid coaching staffs, limited recruiting budgets...the administrations belief that the MWC places emphasis on academics over athletics and a move to the MWC conference was probably inevitable.

I'm curious what this will do to the Coe/Cornell rivalry.
