I'd like to respond to PH's last post, but I'm not sure what he was writing about.

If it has to do with UW Whitewater and Mount Union being the top dogs in D3 football, I agree with him.  That seems to be a fairly obvious point.

I think if I can follow my own Sierra Nevada-induced haze, Wartburg is marginally better than a team full of dead people...but that doesn't give their fans the right to pick on Cornell.  :D

So what you're saying is that a team of dead people would have went 9-1 in conference last year? ???

No, I think the logic would hold that a team full of dead people would have gone 7-1 in conference...but that's the Sierra Nevada talking   :P

Thank you Heys, for pointing out the error in my post. I'll be a stand-up guy and admit my mistake. Just cut me some slack. I was oxygen deprived from laughing so hard. ;)

It's been awhile. I hope everyone is doing well. I'm looking forward to the football season that's coming around the corner.

I've been trying to catch up on things. Just curious...What ever happened to the Wartburg player that was living in the sewer?

According to the last Wartburg Alumni Newsletter, he moved to a place where he would feel like home, Pella, Iowa.  I heard he got a job as the Associate Dean/Academic Advisor for the Central College Athletic Department.  ;)

He must have been the one person that was reported to have shown up to the Sarah Palin rally!  ::)

Huzzzaa! Well played by both gentlemen. No advantage gained. Play On!

8 weeks from today the football season kicks off...I'm anxious (don't care if that is spelled correctly) to get my hands on some rosters and see where the new kids are coming from for each school.

And to see who is listed at the WR position for the Spartans?

I'm anxious (I don't care either if it's spelled correctly) to see that ball flying in the air on the opening kick off.

I can answer that question for you now! Same guys listed as WR at the start of last season!  ;D

I honestly love the feeling that comes with fall football camp and the anticipation of the football season but I prefer not to think too much about it before august as it makes the short summer go even faster!!

I know I'm dense but I am seeing more than Iowa players going to  Coe, Central, and BV.  Additionally I see some Iowa players on Cornell's roster.

I have a pilgrimage/family reunion scheduled tomorow in Dubuque.  Does anyone know where the Doolittledog and DBQ1965 shrines are located I would like to visit them.

It took some searching, but I came up with some info to answer Bird Dog.  I looked for the rosters listed on the web-sites of conference schools.  I couldn't find one for Luther.  Wartburg, Simpson, Loras, and Dubuque appear to have dropped last year's seniors and possibly underclassmen who aren't coming back.  Central, Buena Vista, and Coe appear to have their full 2010 roster posted.  Cornell has their 2011 roster posted.

I've listed each team followed by total names on the roster and then out of state players.

Buena Vista  58-10
Central Coll. 131-25
Coe College  97-25
U of Dubuque 63-47 (17 from Illinois 18 from Wisconsin)
Loras College 71-50 (44 from Illinois)
Simpson Coll. 94-10
Wartburg Coll. 84-16
Cornell College 58-48

With the exception of Cornell the numbers seem fairly consistant around the league. When you consider that Loras and Dubuque are on the border their out of state numbers would probably be expected to be higher. Loras only shows six players from somewhere other than Iowa or Illinois.  Dubuque has twelve players outside the tri-state.  Cornell has ten Iowa kids.

Mrs. Warthog and I did a day trip to Dubuque on Tuesday.  We had a nice time visiting the River Museum.  We also went to the Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens.  If you enjoy anything to do with flowers, lawns, or landscaping I would suggest a visit.
Traveling between the museum and arboretum we did a drive through around University of Dubuque.  Things are looking fine there.  This is quite a transformation from the past decades. I'm happy for the university and the city of Dubuque.  The improvements should bode well for both for years to come.  Perhaps UD will replace Loras as the apple of Dubuque's eye.
Even Mrs. Warthog gave props to the Spartan Nation.  Looking around she said. "This might not be such a bad place to go to college."  From a person who boasts four generations of Wartburg graduates, this is quite a compliment.

Try the West Dubuque Tap on Asbury Road ... just up the road from the Doghouse.  Great pork tenderloin sandwiches and fries.
