If I can convince Mrs Doolittle the lawn doesn't need mowing, and with this heat I should really stay inside today...I will take looks at all the IIAC football pages today :D

Dear Mrs. Doolittledog,

While I am sure mowing the grass today would be good for Doolittledog.  I must implore you to not let him do it even if he begs to do it.  With five days of extreme heat cutting the grass would stress the turf making it more vulnerable to turf diseases and allow weeds to establish.  Please think of the health of your lawn.  When it cools and we get some rain let him cut it but only with the mower set on its highest setting for the rest of the summer.

Sincerely yours Psuedo Turf Specialist

Dear Mrs. Doolittledog,

Woman to woman, we respectfully ask that your husband have permission to stay inside and play on the football boards today. You are the reasonable sort, and a wonderful wife and mother. We just want to borrow him for some much needed pre-season football talk. The lawn can wait another day, right? We'll send chocolate and make it up to you.

Hugs,
Dutchfan1 :)

Thank you everyone, my wife took your advice and gave me a day off from outside work...I wasn't even drafted into folding laundry duty either ;)

I think (I've had a few beers now) I looked at Central, Coe, Dubuque, Loras, Luther, Simpson, and Wartburg and couldn't make out if they had new rosters up or not...but I suspect they don't.

Would you have Mrs. Doolittle contact AzDutchwoman for me?
I have some things that I might have to do tomorrow and would appreciate a reprieve from my list.  :-\

Looked at Coe's it is this years roster minus Freshman.  I'll look at the others later.  I need to get back to my weed eating.

A press release related to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and put out by U of D clearly makes it sound as if Michael Zweifel will be playing for the Spartans in the 2011 season.  For all of us UD die-hards, that is good news.

Yes, I believe it was known last spring after the season that he was granted the medical redshirt and could return. Everyone returns on offense except maybe 1 OL? Defense is where there is a few more holes to fill with graduates.

I tried to get official confirmation of that, but never could.  Whatever ... it is good news in  the Spartan nation.

All these top shelf players returning for a fifth year to places like U of D, Luther, & Monmouth.  I'm thinking I should get points any time I wager on the Knights in 2011.  :-\
The line starts on the right.  Row up and tell me by how many points you expect your favorite team will beat the Knights this year.  I'm worried.  Perhaps Hub City Beer, Oreos, and Kalona Bratwurst will be the only things that can get me through the upcoming season.

My prediction is Wartburg will move up and down the field at will against the Spartans and dominate time of possession, rushing yards and passing yards.  UD defense will force 5 or more turnovers from that whipper snapper young Warty offense.  With UD clinging to a 3 point lead late, some underclassman Knight defender will commit a personal foul to keep the UD drive going.  UD converts a 4th and goal with under a minute left to go up 10.  warthog won't care because we'll be filling him up with Hub City Beer, blue and white m & m's, and bratwurst...but mrs warthog will be furious at the game Wartburg somehow let slip away ;D

At that time of the season McGivney will be leading the nation in tackles.  Opposing offensive players begin to just fall down at the site of him approaching them.  warthog begins to suspect Wartburg could end their season with a loss to Luther...leading him to propose to mrs warthog that they spend that saturday at the Topling Goliath Brewery in Decorah, eating and drinking the cold November day away :D
