Norse fans hope McGivney returns.

We've been told he will.

Hooray, I've converted Pat!!!
Five words or less  should be assessed a "5 yard penalty" for using too many words.

Restated using 5 words...

All these top shelf players returning for a fifth year to places like U of D, Luther, & Monmouth.  I'm thinking I should get points any time I wager on the Knights in 2011.  :-\
The line starts on the right.  Row up and tell me by how many points you expect your favorite team will beat the Knights this year.  I'm worried.  Perhaps Hub City Beer, Oreos, and Kalona Bratwurst will be the only things that can get me through the upcoming season.
Central spotted Wartburg 14 last year with a fumble and a blocked punt that were turned into gimme touchdowns.  That ended up being 11 too many.  So I'm not going to try to figure what the spread should be this year.  After last year's disastrous 8-2 season, and everyone who mattered graduating, the Dutch may not even field a team for 2011.

IIAC sighting of the day.  Man at Sams Club in Waterloo wearing a BVU t-shirt.  I was about to strike up a conversation when I remembered the time I talked to a girl in a UD sweatshirt and she told me she had wanted to go to the seminary at UD but they didn't accept her.  I decided to just let things go and ask for another free sample of the beef jerky!!!

Now I'm anxious (still don't care if that word is spelled correctly) for Willie to start giving daily updates from preseason practices coming up ;D

Hi gang!  I've been gone way too long, but hope to be back from time to time.  Not as much as in the past, with a couple of job changes, they now expect me to actually work.    :D

I have tried to go back and pick up most of what I missed for the past few months.  Fantastic to see the continued positive outlook from and for Chris Norton.  That video  was great to watch and their faith and outlook are something that all of us could only hope to live up to under similar circumstances.  ...  UD did a great job in hiring Mc Govern as a westling coach, any Central all-American would be a great hire as a coach. ...  Sorry to see Cornell leave IIAC, but it will give us a chance to improve our SOS.  I have often wondered why BV stays in the IIAC being alone out in NW Iowa.  With enrollment down there, it would be really good to add another school or two to our conference.  I like the idea of Grandview and I miss the UI Peococks.  Funny I haven't really missed WP at all.  ...  Heard a rumor quite some time ago that Pella's QB from 2 years ago was transfering to Central.  If memory serves (and it doesn't always, the older I get) he was also a punter and maybe a kicker too.  Brondyk's shoes will be hard to fill, he was just exceptional all the way around, as is evidenced by his DIII individual championship in track.  ...  Central fan really was lucky that the CR guy stopped at beating him up, or more honestly, was stopped from being killed.  ...  My red glasses saw the WB game the same as Mav45's red glasses did.  WB didn't do anything offensively until the end of the game and the points that we practically handed over on a silver platter were the difference.  BUT, that does not negate the fact that on any given day, the team that wants it the most and has the most championship blood in them rises to the occassion, and no denynig WB did that, much as I hate it.   :(  But it is a new season, and even given the graduation losses, my red glasses are back in place. ...  Had to leave town the day Palin was in town, just too painful to consider.

Finally, for those others of you with political aspirations, I would vote for any of you over the goofballs in Congress now that can't/won't sit down and REALLY talk to each other to resolve the debt ceiling.

My family spent the last 2 days at Adventureland.  No IIAC sightings yesterday.  We were into our final hour at the park today when in about a 5 minute stretch we saw a college aged kid in a Simpson Football shirt, a young girl in a Dubuque shirt (not one of my kids), a middle aged woman in an Upper Iowa shirt (former IIAC) and another college aged kid in a Wartburg shirt.  And that was it for the IIAC from a hot and humid Central Iowa long weekend.

It must be close to football season...Klompen has returned...and there was much rejoicing!!!

As for the South Tama kid leaving Wartburg for ISU.  Eh, I suppose you have follow your heart.  For me personally, I would take the more realistic shot of decent playing time at Wartburg over the unlikely chance at ever seeing the field at ISU...but that's just me.

NewKnightDad

Maybe he took the path that will allow him to see the field earlier??   ::)
Win or lose we still booze!!

Klompen

Yes, I do have that football fever again, not that I ever really lose it, but with the hot humid weather, it reminds me of the early football games.  I sure wish Central would schedule early season night games, it would be so much nicer for everyone.  Of course, if it stays this hot, I'm glad the season is still a ways off.  Even I don't want to sit at a game in this heat, I can't imagine playing.  The compassionate person in me is glad the camps have not started yet.  It isn't worth the nightmare stories you hear of players collapsing on the field.

Forgot to mention how glad I was to see Mrs. Doolittle and Mrs. AZD doing to well in their picks, only men would chalk it up to going with the team name that sounds the best.   :D :D :D

AZD, are you or your wife coming out this fall?  If you do, please let me know, it would be fun to see either or both of you again.  Say hello for me.

Mrs. AZD picks....I could chalk it up to blind luck, but I better go with wonderful lady luck. The game day when a win in her picks would put me out of reach, was a tough day to watch the games. That lasted for about a week.

We plan on coming out. When? not sure. We'll let you know.  ;D

AZD, let me know when you decide to come out.  If you are interested, I'm sure I can make the same arrangements as I did last year for a place to stay.  If your son stayed out here this summer, I'm sure he feels like he has been in AZ as hot as it is, except that it is humid here too, making it seem so much worse.

Happy Birthday DF1!

The last two schools to leave the IIAC are in the process of major upgrades to their football facilities.

Upper Iowa - http://uiu.edu/transforming-uiu/SDHarms.html

William Penn - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXLVXSj7iH8

And of course, Cornell is planning football facility improvements just in time for their re-entry into the MWC.

Too bad these schools didn't seem interested in improving their facilities while in the IIAC.

Of course, Buena Vista is currently in the middle of a rehab of their football facilities...new artificial surface along with other upgrades.
