There is a rumor that the Warthog Clan may be infiltrating the Presidential Palace at Monmouth prior to the Wartburg/Monmouth game.  Do you suppose the el-presidente will mind if I run an orange and black flag up the pole in the front yard?

el presidente will be too scared to to mind if you surround yourself with some of those other ill-tempered, brawny Knight fans I met at last years Wartburg Homecoming :D

El presedente will probably help you run up the flag after you show him some Knight tailgate hospitality.

Can any posters give us a review of the Iowa State Fair?  I was there once a very long time ago and remember it as a pretty good time.  I don't suppose they have the strippers any more.  I remember the barker promising that one of them was going to wear nothing but three tassels.  She would get two of them twirling in opposite directions and what she would do with the third would drive me right out of my mind.  Even back then I was too much of a cheap skate to spend whatever was the cost of admission.  The side show I did pay for was, "The Tower of Death."  The audience stood on a cat walk at the top of a big cylinder.  The daredevil was down below.  First he abused a poor old lion for awhile.  Then he got on a motor cycle and raced around  and around on the vertical inside wall with his eyes closed.  The fact that I remember it forty years later must mean it was worth the two or three dollars it cost to see.

The last time my retirement account took such a bad beating was 2008, which was the last time Luther beat Central.  I'm scared, very scared.

The games in 2004, 2006, and 2008 were my favorite Norse-Dutch games in recent memory, so perhaps there is a trend.  The Norse also played the Dutch pretty tough in 2007, so maybe they have just had some good games in recent years.

Did I miss the talk about the Preseason Top 25 Poll?  Kohawks come in at #10 and the Knights at #15.  Coe opens at #16 Hardin-Simmons.

Floyd, I understand your unease at the coaching changes at Luther and wonder where it is heading.  Luther did win...or tie for the all-sports trophy this year so things can't be too bad...all-sports wise.  I'm not convinced the administration supports football all that well, but that is just from an outsiders view of things.  The reality of things is that D3 schools will not pay sports coaches at a high level so we will often see a high turnover rate in the coaching staffs.  I think the days of of coaches staying 40+ years at one program like Schipper at Central are probably over...but would be nice to see again.

Strippers at the State Fair???  :o

Apparently my parents didn't take me the good parts of the fairgrounds way back in the day ;D

Maybe I can talk my wife into a family vacation down to Des Moines...as a prep for IIAC tailgates to come this fall ;)

Go Dubuque Spartans...at this time of year we can all be optimistic as to how our favorite teams season will go!!!

After RAGBRAI, it's all downhill until kickoff. Excited to welcome the Kohawks to campus and get to work on 2011. Lot's of reason for optimism around Coe, not the least of which includes visitor bleachers!
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Hooray!  This coupled with the best hotdogs in the conference will make for enjoyble trips to Cedar Rapids.

I was glad to see D3 got it right.  It seems Coe has more horses in the barn and with their hot shot QB back for another year they should be favored.  I'm not saying the Kohawks win it for sure, I'm just saying to start the season they should be favored over Wartburg, Central, Dubuque and the rest.

I would agree with that statement, but I'm sure, as usual, at the end of the year you can cover Coe, Central, and Wartburg with one of Fannosauras' stripper tassels.

You might as well go to the State Fair.  Word is East Dubuque isn't fun any longer.  ;)

If today is Thursday...and I believe it is...that means 3 weeks from today the IIAC kicks off their 2011 season with Dubuque travelling south 90 miles to take on Augustana.

We have kids in school, so we won't be making that trip on a school night.  Maybe I can convince warthog to go to the game and give me a 1st hand account of how the Spartans look this year :D

I plan to be there.  I'll have on a Royal Blue shirt and I'll be cheering for the Spartans.  Unfortunately the shirt has "Goodyear" printed on the sleeve rather than "UD Spartans".  I was hoping Coach Kyte might bring along a Spartans Football cap for me.
