That's not the complete roster, there is somewhere in the neighborhood of 140 players in camp....you're missing about 30 players. The SID is probably working on it and you are seeing a "work in progress".

Wow!  Once Cornell moves on next year, the Norse might become one of the smaller rosters.

When was the last time Dubuque had numbers like this? :o

This makes for a 135 player roster.

I wonder what the largest the Wartburg roster has ever reached?  I would have the same questions for St. John's.

I think SJU had 186 players report this year. If I remember correctly I've heard of years where they had as 'few' as 175ish and some that pushed 200 on the high end. (Disclaimer: All estimates from an average memory, take it for what you will)

SJU also has no JV program, which doesn't seem to have hurt them too much.

Having played, coached and cheered against SJU for a little more than a decade, they usually have excellent depth. Which you'd expect from a team with that many players. And there are also a good chunk of guys on the sideline who appear to be total scrubs, judging from the vertical and mid-section challenges you could observe off the hoof. Most schools, at the DIII level anyway, likely have a few of these at the bottom of the roster. Especially if the rosters are well north of 115 or don't have the limits imposed by WIAC schools.

IMO, quality depth is the real advantage of a large roster. Over the course of a season and post-season run, you're better able to absorb injuries. There might not be much difference between the top 35 players at top tier IIAC/MIAC schools, but as the season wears on, a school with superior depth between players 36-86 is better situated for a late season push and probably better set to reload the following season.

Thanks!  St. Thomas might be getting a lot better, but it sounds like the Johnnies aren't hurting!

I think that it is imperative to make sure BVU stays happy.   Incentives like playing away basketball games on Saturday and the rest of the conference sucking it up and traveling to BV on the weekdays might help.

Ashford and Waldorf keep being mentioned.  What about Grandview in Des Moines? Waldorf would give BV a somewhat closer rival.

We have been hashing this over and over since we heard rumors and then confirmation of Cornell leaving.

I hope everyone doesn't mind,
but I'm asking for some more Prayers for healing.
I had a second round of surgery yesterday.

Very quick healing would be awesome.
Before the first game would be good.
I would look pretty silly wearing my traditional helmet
watching the games if I was all banged up!  ::)

No, I don't have anything too non-traditional, but I did buy a new royal blue shirt today.  I want to blend in with my Spartan brothers when I go the cheer on U of D a week from this coming Thursday.  I figured a stranger wearing a black/orange polo shirt embroidered with "Wartburg Football" might be viewed as a spy rather than some guy simply supporting his conference.  I'm still hoping Mrs. Doolittle will let papa out for the night so he can come down to Rock Island. Is there any chance I will spot Willie U in the crowd?

So if I drive over to Olivet for their game with Cornell ... I should wear purple, right?
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀
