From the Wartburg e-mail to Knight Fans:
Monmouth College doesn't allow tailgating on campus, but has established a location relatively near April Zorn Memorial Field. Just look for Derek Samson and the Wartburg Football flag to find your fellow Knights.

Location:
Corner of North Sixth St. and East Jackson, Monmouth
Turn South off of Rt. 34 at the stop light onto North Sixth St.
Grassy area South of Cavanagh Motors Building/Lot

I guess the term "relatively near" means somewhere within the state's boundaries. From the map it looks like quite a walk to the stadium. NKD might need to set up a refueling station about halfway to the stadium, or they might not make it back after the "halftime festivities". ;)
he aerial view I would guess the tailgating is about a half mile from the stadium.  I think we find some guy with about a .20 blood/alcohol to run a shuttle service and drive us back & forth.

The tailgate area to campus distance should be adequate to protect the saintly Monmouth students, parents, alumni, and fans from being exposed to the ruffians who will invade their peaceful little campus on Saturday.

I think that's what footballdaddy was pointing out.
He was just being a gentleman by saying that you might need to set up a refueling station,
when in fact he knows that you need two. (even with a shuttle)  ;D

RE:  MC Tailgating..

The area by the car dealership isn't ideal, but it's what we have to work with at the moment.  Last year, a number of MC fans ended up finding their own spots near, but not on, campus (perhaps as a way to rebel against the new tailgate policy).  So while there were a lot of grills going, they weren't all in the same location.  My guess is that you'll find a few MC tailgaters in the 'designated area', but it won't be a huge, festive group.

Wartburg fans need to count their blessings.  It looks like the official Central tailgate party sets up about 500 feet from the Oshkosh sewage treatment plant.  I'll be praying for a westerly.

Re: Cornell @ Olivet

Shared opponent last year in North Central.  Rams lost 41-7, Olivet lost 52-9  Both 0-10 teams...Cornell had closer losses than Olivet (for whatever that counts for) and I think the IIAC is a tougher conference.

At home I'd give the Rams a clear edge...but on the road, this game is no lock for a Ram team that manufactures ways to lose to teams it should beat  (See Macalester last year, Grinnell in '08).  On the plus side of this, to me, is Coach B.  For the first time since I've been involved in the program we start the season with a QB with starting experience in that coach's system.  After a step back last year, Burdick should benefit from a year of being in Coach B's offense.  I think Burdick's seat is a bit warm to prove himself early.  This is still a young team and I can foresee Coach B going with the hot hand at the QB position...whoever that might be.

That young-ness is precisely what concerns about this first game, which I believe we should win...Heck with it, Rams win in a blowout.   8-)

(Note: I know that Burdick is a 3-year starter, but his 1st year was under Dillon, so last year was his 1st for Coach B)
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

Weather forecast for Thursday night's game between Augustana and UD in Rock Island ... sunny with a possible high of 90 at game time.

GO SPARTANS!

For Saturday's game in Olivet pitting the Comets against the Cornell Rams ... scattered thunderstorms with temps in high 70s.

GO RAMS!
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Well one can get dehydrated during the first half of any football game, so Knight fans need a place to replenish precious bodily fluids at halftime. Alcohol is only a saftey measure to kill any germs or bacteria that they might have contacted during the first half. After all, if alcohol wasn't safe, would doctors use it when you get an injection?

Sorry for what is a little bit of a spammy post - but thought at least the Central College fans would find this of interest.

We're kicking off a new radio show tonight in Pella called the Central College Coaches Corner on 92.1 KRLS and www.kniakrls.com.  It'll be live at Applebee's every Monday night from 7:00-7:30 pm, starting tonight, with Jeff McMartin joining us live.  Applebee's is doing some nice food and drink specials, and we'll be giving away some dinners for two as well.

You can ask questions live at the restaurant, or you can email in questions at trevorcastle@kniakrls.com.

Hope you guys enjoy the new show and our expanded coverage of the Dutch!

Great show! You covered a lot of bases. It's great to hear Coach McMartin again!
Curious? What happened to taking questions from the on line listeners? I didn't hear one?

AZ -

Sorry - I did get your email, but I am on vacation this week.  I was swimming the kids up until the show started, and forwarded your questions on to Eric, who was hosting the show in my absence.  Unfortunately - he left his phone on silent and didn't see my email.  I'll make sure that we get your questions answered in the future :)

I enjoyed the broadcast, thank you very much.  Coach McMartin's enthusiasm has me pumped up for the season to start.  I will try to patronize the sponsors when I am out for homecoming.  In fact when I stop in IntVelt's for a couple of rings of bologna do you want me to ask why they didn't advertise?

As you guys probably all know - that's the circle that makes stuff like coverage of division 3 football go around (supporting the sponsors of local radio stations, this website, etc), and that's all appreciated.  However, IntVeld's must be doing it backward.  You spent so much money there in the past that they are advertising during the games this fall!!!

If we are doing a pick-em this year its time to get your picks in as the season starts Thursday night this week.  I just posted mine over on the pick-em board.

I will volunteer mrs doolittle to tally up the picks on Sunday nights if no one else on here wants to run things.

Go to General Football; hit 'pickems'.

The season starts TODAY...the in-game updates page will once again get used...my wife is still questioning why I signed her up to keep track of the pick-ems this year but has agreed to do it.

I'll be rooting for UD to pull this one out...

UD 34, Augustana 31

IMO UD will have to put their cards out on the table and pass pass pass.
Forget about trying to mix in the run to throw off the defense.  8-)
