Pat Forde over at ESPN:

Standing tall
One Saturday last October, Rutgers player Eric LeGrand suffered a horrifying in-game injury. His comeback from that injury has been a captivating and uplifting story.

On the same Saturday, another player suffered a similar injury. Nobody noticed, because it happened at Division III Luther College in Iowa. But the comeback story of Chris Norton (24) is every bit as captivating and uplifting for the few who know it.

Norton fractured his neck and compressed his spinal cord making a tackle on a kickoff against Central College. According to Luther College sports information director David Blanchard, doctors initially estimated he had a 3 percent chance of having movement below his neck.

On Saturday, Norton is planning on standing for the national anthem and coin toss when Luther hosts William Penn. That deserves a standing ovation from The Dash.

Well done Mr. Forde, well done. And that is just excellent news about Norton. My prayers go with him as he works towards a full recovery!

I'm standing right now! What an awesome young man! What an inspiration!  ;D ;D ;D

Thank goodness someone in the national media noticed. Eric LeGrand gets all sorts of kudos and pub and Chris Norton, who was injured the same day, has actually recovered more quickly.

I agree 100%. Eric deserves the pub he gets but he shouldn't get more than Chris. Both are inspiring stories, It's sad that the D1 school with name recognition gets more coverage.

Congratulations to the Coe fans for not whining like I would have if my team got beat after a 17 hour bus ride.  I'm all for scheduling challenging games but if I were a coach, I don't think I would schedule an away game that took more than 8 hours to get to no matter what the mode of transportation.  Although I guess I would make an exception for the Stagg Bowl.

FYI - another one is doing it; UW-La Crosse is soon to be boarding a bus - destination: Belton, Texas to play UMHB on Saturday.

I agree, Coe fans have not complained.  I believe though, that Coe had North Central scheduled and then NCC backed out of the game to schedule a trip out to Redlands...where they ended up losing.  That is why Coe ended up busing 17 hours.  But I probably have my story wrong.

You're right. NCC dropped Coe later during the off season and scheduled Redlands instead.

Does anyone know if 1600am archives their shows?  I caught about the last minute of their afternoon team interviewing Coe's Steve Staker yesterday.  He mentioned Central and Wartburg should be considered favorites and that it was kind of funny to see Cornell and Dubuque at the top of the standings.  You don't have to be so politically correct if you are a D3 coach I guess ;D

And if my memory serves...Cornell backed out of playing NCC this fall, which led to NCC and Coe hooking up to begin with...but then NCC had a change of heart and decided to go out to Cali to play Redlands.

From what the CCIW boards are saying. I guess Coe only offered to play NCC this one time, where as Redlands offered to play NCC the next two seasons.

With NCC having problems finding non-conference opponents, they went with the team that guarantees a non-conference game through 2012.

The DuHawks look to keep things rolling this weekend. They are playing extremely tough out of conference opponent like usual to get ready for conference

Rockford has had a couple D1 athlete transfers to avoid sitting out a year at the higher level. I see why Loras scheduled them, to get used to the quick backfields the IIAC brings week in and week out. There is no other  reason the Duhawks would put them on their schedule. Period.

These Loras fans are a lot more fun than the Central fake poster and ShowMe.  Always nice to get new blood on here.

The real reason? I belive in baseball they're called slump busters.

DuHawk Football is comparable to the Miami Heat, everybody knows we are the best but everybody just hates on us. Our new coach has a couple tricks up his sleeve for the IIAC. You guys saw the first trick, only playing 2 or 3 of the quarters, just like the Heat. Wait till we play all four come IIAC time
