Maybe it's true that every cloud has a silver lining.  Hearing that Coe beat WB finally gave me something to smile about.   ;)  It doesn't take much of the sting away, particularly knowing we have to play Coe next week.

Central's secondary really seemed to struggle for the 3 quarters I watched. Granted they won't be facing that caliber of WR again this year. But Boyle seems to be hitting his stride.

This was the first time I'd seen UD's Big Z. Ummm, yeah, he's pretty darn good.

Congratulations to the Spartans and KoHawks.  The results didn't surprise me all that much, but the score of the UD/Central game really caught me off guard.

Been a busy day in Spartan land...Now that the kids are in bed, I can comment on the game today and WOW what a game for the Spartans. As most know, the Spartans ended a LONG streak of Dutch domination today. By my estimate, this was the most significant victory so far in the past 3 decades since the spartans last won a IIAC championship.

I often comment on the play of the players as they are the ones putting their bodies on the line but this game I give more credit to the coaches. The game plan was flawless, imaginative, and well executed to say the least. And there are too many players to give props to...wyatt hanus hit his targets right on all day and michael zweifel and D fleming and others came up with some amazing catches. (See Hazzben's comment of Mikey Z)The D stepped up and found a way to stop snead in the 2nd half which is no small task. The Spartans just kept coming at the dutch from so many directions that at times, had their defenders not knowing which way to go literally.

I say all of this with respect as I have always respected the Central football program but today was the day of the Spartan. They were hungrier and had something to prove to the IIAC and nation. Probably what I am most proud of when watching the Spartans is that they truley play as a team. There are no individuals out there, from the sidelines to the trenches, those guys are doing everything they can to help their team win......and it is fun to watch.

There is a long road ahead and next up is Simpson. Simpson is probably one of the most underrated teams in the conference and will make teams that don't take them seriously pay for it this year. I know the coaches, players, and fans will enjoy the great win tonight but it's back to work tomorrow....

GO SPARTANS!!!

@Willie - My favorite play of the game was the tipped pass that was then caught by #60 (??) and returned for a TD. The tip was a great play in itself, but seeing a D-Lineman snag it out of the air and rumble home is always fun. Not usually much glory for the boys down in the trenches!

Is that Play of the Week worthy?

It should definitely be in the mix. Defender comes of the edge and elevates to tip Snead pass and lineman snags it with some pretty nice reflexes and then rumbles a good 30 - 40 yds for the score.

Although I didn't see it, I've got to think Brumm's 32 yd TD pass with .6 seconds remaining (at the start of the play) to beat SJU in Collegeville for the first time in 30 years, in front of 10,000+ homecoming crowd should be in the mix as well.

No doubt there are a handful of other great ones out there that I'm oblivious to as well.

Detroit and Buffalo have Coe-like second half come backs to win games today.  :o

Man, I hate it when my teams choke after building a three score lead. :'(

No doubt -- we do have video of that one, by the way:

How could that NOT be play of the week?  The Dubuque tip + pick + 6 was pretty sweet, but that Augusburg game winner was incredible.

Certainly possible. I keep finding that there are always more plays. Figure there are 170 or so plays in each game, and 110 or so games.

Doctor Cliche here guessing that the key to Central beating Dubuque tomorrow will be...wait for it...ball control.  I look for Central to put together some long, clock draining drives to keep Dubuque's quick strike offense off of the field and to wear down their defense.  It looks like both teams have had some trouble with turn-overs.  Per the forecast, there is a 30% chance the ball will be damp like it was in Oshkosh where Central lost 2 fumbles.  I'm hoping Dubuque still hasn't found a kicker and that Central can spoil the Spartans, so far, perfect season.

I'm hoping that most Central fans will look like this...

...after finding out Dubuque takes the victory over Central tomorrow ;)

I hope the UD/Central game is well played by both teams.  I'm going to be too nervous to watch it...I'm planning on a full day of yard work...hopefully watching the replay later in the evening after finding out the score...if it turned out the way I hope it turns out!!!

Okay, an earthquake in DC...
Torrential floods in New England and Pennsylvania...
Record heat and horrible wildfires in Texas...
Dubuque over Central...

This seems to be the appropriate run-up to the end of the current Mayan era!

The nice part for Rex and other Central fans is that a loss like last weeks only comes around every 60 years or so for the Dutch ;)

Congrats to Coe on a deserved win on Saturday. Their second half adjustments on offense beat our adjustments on defense. It doesn't get any easier for the Knights. We have a potential all-conference team on the sidelines in street clothes and on crutches. We need to turn those injuries into opportunities to fight harder.

Congrats also to the Spartans. Now that they're on the radar, they will get to see what it's like to get everyone's best shot every weekend.

Since I didn't do too well helping Central against Dubuque, I will start early on how to beat Coe.  It looks to me like the secret is to get them after a long bus ride.  There must be some way to close enough bridges and rig enough detours to make it take at least 10 hours to get from Cedar Rapids to Pella.
