Just a question from a guy over on the MWC board- who is going to win the IIAC and how do they compare to Wartburg.  While the Knights beat us fair and square opening day I thought Monmouth matched up pretty well with them physically and outplayed them in the first half.  We all know who played better in the second and won the game!!! I know warthog you might have something to say. Many of you guys have been around the board longer so any ideas or input on playoff matches in the west would be appreciated. I thought what the heck I'd come over here since I just cant seem to get along with anyone on the MWC board.

With WB having an off week I am trying to figure out if it would be worth my time to go to Mt Vernon to watch Cornell vs Central tomorrow?  I only live 30 minutes from Mt Vernon so it would be a short drive.

Make the trip.  Go to Chameleons for a pre-game blue/bleu cheeseburger basket and a barley pop...or, you could crash the Cornell parents tailgate (we've done that before), it's the tent right next to the entrance that the players walk through.  The weather is still nice and this is the Rams last year as a conference member.

A note on the kids at the gate.  Everybody was pretty much just walking through without paying.  I felt guilty and ponied up my 6 bucks, but the kids looked shocked that I was actually paying to get in to the game and looked a little put out that they would have to count change back to me (I wasn't going to give a $14.00 tip) :o

You have been given the power to deny 1 former IIAC team back into the conference.  Who would it be?  And why...

A - Upper Iowa (left after 2002)
B - William Penn (left after 2000)
C - Iowa Wesleyan (left after 1965)
D - St Ambrose (left after 1954)
E - Cornell (about to leave)
I would either bring back William Penn just because Oskaloosa is almost as much fun to say as Okoboji, or I would bring back Parsons because a trip to Vedic City is good for your karma.  Plus, it would give the IIAC a team on an Amtrak route.  The California Zephyr doesn't stop in Fairfield, but at least it goes through.

And as for futbol, at least it brought some Loras fans to the board.

No one knows how the conference will play out.  6 of the 9 teams are within 1 game of the lead.  Coe lost their 1st 2 games to the season but are now 3-1 in the conference.  The Kohawks won at Wartburg but then lost at Central.  Central got beat soundly at Dubuque but then beat Coe.  Dubuque lost at home to Wartburg in a very similar sounding game to the Monmouth/Wartburg game earlier in the year.  Simpson lost to Coe and Dubuque but won at Wartburg.  We still have Central/Wartburg, Simpson/Central and Coe/Dubuque and a number of other big games to go.

Long story short.  Too early to tell who will win the IIAC.

Thanks for the info sounds a lot like the MWC last year. Except I for one admit your conference is better from top to bottom year in and year out. Not sure how these seed things work but if either MC or your champ end up with 2 losses they probably would play in a first round match up.

An interesting and more telling addition to this would be how many times was Zweifel the target but it was an incompletion.

If you go to Mount Vernon, you might have to break into someone's room to watch the game over the internet. I believe the game is in Pella.

Darn, I must have misread the schedule on the IIAC web site.

Certainly not going to Pella.

As the guy said, who either conference will send to the play-offs is yet to be determined.  However, since the West region is loaded as usual, I'm guessing that the IIAC and the Midwest Conference representatives will both be near the bottom of the bracket and find themselves playing in Texas or Wisconsin or Minnesota or Oregon rather than Iowa or Illinois.

E!!!  I would keep the Rams in the league as they fit better in the IIAC than three of the others (A, B, and C).  By fit I mean that they are a nice school that is about to upgrade facilities.

Upper Iowa and Billy Penn might have some athletic advantages in the short term on Cornell, but Cornell is a much better school than Upper Iowa and Billy Penn.  The main thing I respect about Upper Iowa and Billy Penn is that they were in the IIAC for a long time.  There are many things I do not respect as much about those schools (the academic setting, the fact that they both left the IIAC, etc.).  I have not missed those schools that much since they left, although I always have a lot of Upper Iowa stories to tell.  I will miss Cornell.

Cornell, St. Ambrose, and Grinnell would be the three small colleges in the great state of Iowa that interest me the most in adding.  I wouldn't want all three as the IIAC might be too big.  Keeping Cornell or adding one of the other two would be fine with me.

Just plop on a couch at the 10th ave apartments. I think Ash Park, Oh Iowa, and I paid enough in fines to claim part ownership of the south apartment.

St. Ambrose:
Almost a home game for Mr. and Mrs. Warthog  :)
Pre-game at the Circle Tap for barbeque ribs and beer  :D
Half-time at the Filling Station for tenderloins and more beer  8-)
Post-game at 11th St. Precinct for bleu cheese burgers and even more beer  ;D
Game day wrap-up at The Belgium Village for Rueben sandwiches and way too much beer  :P

Cali, there isn't much thinking to do about that one.  I bet if we charged $5 cover for everyone that came to an after hours party, we still would have fell short of covering our fines.  Now if we could only salvage those video tapes to account for who caused what damages.  Still brings a tear to my eye to think about 10th Ave.

I just want to point out that I was attempting to not talk about soccer until a Luther fan( and doolittle) badgered me into it.  I won't bring up futbol again until Loras wins the national championship.

As for the conference.  Grinnell always seems like such an outlier to me, too big of an endowment, plus they already destroyed the game of basketball, who knows what havoc they'd bring to other IIAC sports.

I think St. Ambrose would  make the most sense because they're in such a big market and they're OK academically.  They'd probably have the largest enrollment, and they'd would be competitive in football right away. Of course I'm probably partial to them because they'd also make a great rival for Loras based on proximity and Catholic identity.   BV might not think St. Ambrose is such a great option, though.

That looked like a lot of food when I thought you were talking about one of each.  Then I noticed they were all plural.  I'm guessing if Parsons ever revives and you make a trip to Fairfield, you won't be trying the vegitarian options.

Hey duhawk, go over to the pick-ems board and put those picks in.  It doesn't matter if you're coming in late to the party.  My wife will note winners for most wins, %, top female, you name it.
