Also another possible factor that I was unaware of until today (shame on me, considering I'm a former NCC bball player): NCC's Tip-Off Tourney is also Saturday, with Men's and Women's bball games going on. I wouldn't anticipate there being parking issues to deal with if you're there prior to the football game, but I'm not exactly sure what time it all starts. Lots of activity down in the athletic complex for sure.

Yet another factor. The NCAA takes over the parking area behind Merner Fieldhouse. That disrupts about 80 spots that are normally used by the NCC QB Club members. Plan to arrive very early if you want to park in the lot off Highland.

Where did the Franklin fans gather in 2008?  I wasn't able to attend that game, but I assume there was a large contingent of Franklin tailgaters.
Visitors usually tailgate in upper highland.

I did see the Wartburg/Luther game today, looking across the field to see a sea of blue in the Norse stands.  A great day for football.........not like 2 years ago when the field was a sea of mud.

But....I was greatly disappointed in the play of the Knights.  Only game I have seen them play and the Norse, in spite of losing were the better team today.  Perhaps the loss of coaching staff is at the root but Willis has to do something to get the Knights on track for next year.  Should have been champs but limped even though they were 8-2.  Alumni expect more.

The Norse were the better team, really?  Which years did you play for Wartburg, I am sure you suffered no losses while you were playing but in looking back at records I could not find that four year span where Wartburg did not lose a game.

Win or lose we still booze!!

The word is out from the UD Alumni Association for UD tailgating at North Central College on Saturday ... starting at 10:30 Saturday morning at the Highland Park Deck (corner of Brainerd St. and Highland Ave).  This confirms what "nccfac" predicted.

Let me come in and wish some good luck on Dubuque. This UWW fan is rooting for you. You'll have to play the best game of the season to be able to take down NCC, but you do have a chance though not enough to get me to pick you in the pick 'ems. Give them your best!

GO SPARTANS!

Our dilemma is that our high school is playing in the state title game on Saturday.  Do we take our kids on a 30 minute car drive up to the UNI-Dome to watch our high school play...or do we send the kids to their grandparents friday night and my wife and I leave home at 5:30am to make it to Dubuque to ride the bus to the UD/NCC playoff game???

I'm not sure what we should do yet  :-\

I am totally in favor of retiring the phrase "the better team didn't win today", or it's variants. I'm guilty of using it myself but I'm willing to bury those phrases. There is only one true way to measure who was the better team, and it's the scoreboard. If the losing team was the better team, they would have won.

Send the kids off to grandma and grandpas and make the trek to Naperville. Weather is supposed to be nice for mid November (sunny, mid 50s). Done and done!
You win! You always do!

I sure wish Central was playing at North Central Saturday (or any place else for that matter).  I've been waiting since I moved here in 1972 for Central to play a game in the Chicago metro area.  Finally, between last year and this three IIAC teams get to play within thirty miles of my house and none of them are the Dutch.  It ain't fair.  But enough of my whining, Go Spartans!!!

I have this vision of the UD bus breaking down and me saying "It's ok, we can all crash at Rex's place, it's close by"  Then Rex looking out his front door in horror as 50-100 UD fans walk up asking where the beer and the bathroom is ;D

Beginning next year both the IIAC and CCIW will have 8 schools.  We could reserve one Saturday in September for an 8-game IIAC-CCIW matchup, like the annual PAC-MAC challenge in the East.

I am all for this too. Obviously if the team won they were the better team that particular day. Some people might think that UD was the better team the day they lost to Wartburg but in that case Wartburg obviously was the better team that particular day. As for the whole season...UD proved to be the better team or maybe the more consistent team. Either way you want to look at it...the phrase "the better team didn't win today" doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I am guilty of using it as well and will try to retire it.

Maybe a couple years from now.  Coe has their schedule set for next year.  I think it's a good idea.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Just a thought, but the WIAC is also an 8 school football conference...just saying...think of the possibilities?

Or even better: an annual IIAC-CCIW-WIAC challange. That way each conference would have 2 guarenteed games a season against 2 relatively strong schools!

Oh...ah...yeah...about that.  Ahhh...I just remembered I have to be in Pittsburg that day.  Otherwise I'd love to have you.
