I sure wish Central was playing at North Central Saturday (or any place else for that matter).  I've been waiting since I moved here in 1972 for Central to play a game in the Chicago metro area.  Finally, between last year and this three IIAC teams get to play within thirty miles of my house and none of them are the Dutch.  It ain't fair.  But enough of my whining, Go Spartans!!!

Beginning next year both the IIAC and CCIW will have 8 schools.  We could reserve one Saturday in September for an 8-game IIAC-CCIW matchup, like the annual PAC-MAC challenge in the East.

Just a thought, but the WIAC is also an 8 school football conference...just saying...think of the possibilities?

Or even better: an annual IIAC-CCIW-WIAC challange. That way each conference would have 2 guarenteed games a season against 2 relatively strong schools!

Now THIS is a great idea! Someone call the conference commissioners!
You win! You always do!

Dubuque fans would be happy to read this from this week's Around the Nation

"With that loss of privileges comes a very challenging Round 2 matchup [for Mount Union] (either Centre or Hampden-Sydney) and Round 3 matchup (likely either Wabash or Dubuque). "

Sounds like Mr. Rossi is certain you'll knock off NCC.

Mrs Doolittle and I have signed up for the bus trip.  We'll be leaving home at 5:30am to make it to Dubuque for the 7:30 departure time for Naperville.  We're looking forward to this.  It should be a great time.  Go Spartans!!!

I assume if there was a choice, you signed up for the "dry" bus.

Have a good time.  Bring home a Spartan victory.  I'll wear my fashionable royal blue TEAM hat all day.

A friend of mine works in the Alumni office.  While the bus is officially "dry" I have been told where to find the "hidden hooch" during the pre-game tailgate.  We're no strangers to enhancing our drinks at these things ;)

If the pregame tailgate runs out of hooch, remember that there are about 6 or 7 bars are literally within 2 blocks of the stadium (and even more another block or two from those bars)!

It's unlikely UD people would run out of adult beverages...but if it were to happen...we'd find robertgoulet at his tailgate and drink for free ;D

When I looked up Dubuque and their conference record over the prior 5 seasons a yin/yang pattern developed.

20 wins to go with 20 losses.

A 7-1 season to go with a 1-7 year.  A 5-3 year that also saw a 3-5 season.  And a 4-4 even steven year mixed in the middle of it all.

UD went 5-0 against Cornell...0-5 against Wartburg.  4-1 against Simpson...1-4 against Central.  3-2 against both BVU and Luther while going 2-3 against both Coe and Loras.

Yin/Yang

What's that all mean?  Absolutely nothing!  So let's get a win against North Central this Saturday...along with some good weather, so my wife isn't too mad at me for getting her up at 5am and dragging her all the way across Illinois to see a football game!!!

I wish I was going to be on that bus with you but with great sadness I report that I will have to settle for live streaming video and UD radio commentary. My wife was so nice not to consider the playoff schedule when planning a shopping trip with her mom and sister-in-laws. So, that eliminated 4 babysitters in one swoop. Then of course my parents can't get out of their plans either and will be out of town. With 2 kids and one being a small baby, I can't bring myself to leave town for an entire day without an adult sitter in case of emergency with everyone being out of town.

The only plus side to watching and listening at home.....my son gets to learn some new words for pre-school next week ;D And of course the beer doesn't need to stop flowing at game time  ;D

I cannot wait for history to be made this Saturday! GO SPARTANS!!!

ncc_fan --  I must say that this is a fantastic idea (IMO); maybe the best I've heard in a while regarding scheduling.  Schools such as NCC, WC, IWU, UWW, Central, Coe, and Wartburg could benefit by not having such a difficult time filling a full slate of three OOC games; all CCIW, WIAC, and IIAC teams would benefit from generally stronger SOSs relating to their OOC opponents; and the three conferences would benefit from forming a "super-regional alliance" with similarly-minded academic institutions that may benefit all 24 schools in so many ways beyond the lines on the football field.  Give yourself a pat on the back.  Perhaps someone else can give you a karma point on my behalf.

The only problem might be that for the IIAC and the WIAC, the CCIW would involve "out of region games."  But after this year's seedings, I'm not sure how big an issue that would be.

Actually all games would be in region (same administrative region - NCC @ Redlands was in region!).  A bigger problem that might give some coaches, etc., pause is that Pool C almost requires a perfect non-con record - if you don't win the AQ, you'd better finish 9-1!  Since WIAC teams have to play UWW, and since NCC seems to be threatening to become the UWW of the CCIW (my bracket prediction is a Stagg of UWW over NCC - i.e., that NCC beats UMU IN Alliance), other teams might be leery of such high stakes competition.  The second place team in the WIAC or CCIW might be all-but-eliminated by the outcome of that game.  (Not saying that coaches would be ducking good competition, but there is 'good' and there is 'potentially suicidal'. ;D
