Wow, McMartin still feels like a new coach and it's been 8 years,  the "Dean" of the conference.  Unfortunately 3 of the last 4 years no title for Central.  Hopefully that gets turned around.  Willis' record is a bit misleading as he is in his second stint and they were quite successfully his first time around too.

The next 8 years could be real interesting as DBQ may have More Than it's share of titles.  With 3 senior qbs on the 3 current contenders rosters this year, the off season speculation will get very interesting.  Am I right in assuming Hanus will be the only senior pitcher next year?

Yes, I am taking every coach in his current role.  Willis had 2 years off, so he has now completed his 4th year on the job.  That isn't a slight against Willis, just in my eyes, he is now in his 4th year as the HC of the Knights.  If someone wants to put his full numbers on here feel free.  I might even if I feel like looking them up...after we convince our kids to go to bed.

This was on the CCIW page ... thought someone here might like to see this.

A quote from the Dubuque wide receiver Michael Zweifel from the interview session following yesterday's game:

"Their front four and linebackers, those guys are as good as they get," Zweifel said. "If there's a better group of guys than that in the country, I'd like to see it. That's by far the best defense we've played against. Their speed, their size, their intensity is really impressive."

And from his father Stan, the DU head coach:

"We knew we'd have to score a lot of points to be in the game and were not able to accomplish that," Spartans coach Stan Zweifel said. "They did a nice job mixing up their coverages. But the thing I was most impressed with — and we talked about it all week — is they're just fast. They really did a good job taking on what we do best and disrupted our throw game."

*While North Central obviously has many assets, these comments highlight perhaps the biggest strength of the Cardinals, namely their overall team speed on both sides of the ball. I would also submit that their depth enables the existence of this asset to always be present on the field.

OhIowa

Congrats to Dubuque on a fine season.  Tough way to end it, but a great run none the less.

For you college football history buffs on here, I have a question for you.  I was talking with a buddy this weekend and we said this last weekend could have been one of only a few recently where the Big 3 football schools (Iowa, Iowa St, and UNI) all won.  We then wondered if it has ever happened that a single state has swept or come close to sweeping the national football championships.  D-1, D-1AA, D-2, and D-3.  I know a lot of states don't have representatives of all divisions, but an interesting thought.  Just some food for thought as we enter the dreaded "off-season" on the boards.

Kohawk Nation

OhIowa, the closest I could come to an answer on a sweep by a single state would be the state of Pennsylvania with Lehigh (D-2), and Widener (D-3) winning a national championship in 1977, and Pittsburgh (D-1) winning it the prior year in 1976.  In other words, I don't think it's been done.

Kohawk Nation, welcome.

Let's see if you can do some more research.  Coe has Steve Staker as head coach and his son is OC.  BVU has Jay Anderson as HC and I believe his dad is the DC.  There have been many IIAC schools with family members coaching WITH each other.  Have there been any IIAC schools where family members were coaching AGAINST each other???

what about a father/son combination coaching/playing against each other?

Congrats to all of the IIAC All Conference Selections and especially to Coach Z for earning Coach of the Year honors and Michael Z for earning Offensive MVP honors

I couldn't be more proud of the Spartan Team this year. It was an exciting season. There was a highlight reel every game and some exciting wins over some tough opponents. It may not seem as significant at the present time, but people will be talking about this season for decades to come. It was the 1st conference championship in over 30 years and records were set that may never be broken and I can tell my grandkids that I actually got to see it all happen.

Congrats and a special thanks to the Seniors that led the way. (Michael Zweifel, Demacus Fleming, Justin Spaulding, Tyler Lang, Antonio Hayes). And I look forward to the next crop of seniors taking over for the Spartans next season. I can't forget to acknowledge Wyatt Hanus for an unbelievable season. His accuracy and completion % were astounding. Vassolotti and Runkle led the way on Defense for a much improved unit that did some great things and I look forward to them building on it for next season!

Yep, all those.  I'm curious

So glad to see Demacus Fleming get the recognition he deserves by being named to the 1st team.

63 receptions for 995 yards and 8 TD's is a great season.

160 receptions for 2,580 yards and 22 TD's for his career stats are also noteworthy.

Your wish is my command: According to my calculations, in 13 seasons as Head Football Coach at Warburg, Coach Willis is 113-27. (80.7%)

Congrats to Seabrook and Bailey on the post season honors. Bailey will surely be missed on that defense. I'm glad that Seabrook will be there another 3 years. Let the recruiting begin (continue)!!!

Congrats to all of the all-conference players..especially Seabrook and Bailey from Cornell. Seabrook has a chance to do some really great things the next few years.

Has anyone heard anything more about the IIAC seeking another member?

Any coaching changes happening?

The Dubuque Telegraph-Herald had a story recently where the UD AD Dan Runkle said that the IIAC had formed an expansion committee but that any expansion was a long way off.

I have no idea about any coaching changes.
