There is no napping at a Warburg tailgate pre or post game!!  Now some people may have passed out but they were usually first timers. :P
Win or lose we still booze!!

Kohawk Nation

Interesting matchup in the quarters with ex-Coe coach Raeburn taking on his alma mater MU.

I hope all of you IIAC loyalists are taking advantage of the opportunity to vote for Michael Zweifel for the Gagliardi Trophy.  See the d3football homepage.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Wartburg tailgaters in general know their limit in alcoholic beverage consumption.  Unfortunately they usually pass out before reaching it.

I know its old but it seemed appropriate at the time.

"I feel sorry for people that don't drink.  When they get up in the morning that's the best they'll feel all day".  paraphrased attributed to Dean Martin RIP.

Is it just me or does it seem like just yesterday everyone was eager for the season to begin.  It just went by so fast. Seventyeight pages of posts.  I can't believe I read the whole thing.  Alkaselzer anyone.

I admire the way the civil discourse continued throughout the season.

It seems like the older I get the faster the seasons go. I'm ready for next season already.

Any rumblings about coaching changes or who is going to replace Cornell??

We haven't had a lot of "meet me at the corner after game so I can whupp your behind" talk here recently...I kind of like that, though others may miss it.

Seasons do go by quick.  I'm getting in basketball mode now so I have something to occupy me ;D

I haven't heard anything about any coaching movement.  Which is more typical...A coach getting canned?  Or a coach moving on by his own choosing?

As far as replacing Cornell.  The IIAC has formed an expansion committee.  They must have told Iowa Wesleyan no thanks because that school had said in the past if they went D3, the IIAC would be their 1st choice.  Then when they announced they immediately stated they were applying to the SLIAC.  That looks like they had their ducks in a row before they made their announcement.

If the IIAC wants to expand and told Iowa Wesleyan no, I wonder if they already have a school...or schools in mind???

This past season we had 5 pretty good teams in Dubuque, Wartburg, Central, Coe, Simpson all coming in between 7-1 and 5-3.

One fair to midlin team in Luther that went 3-5.

Three not so good teams in BVU, Cornell, and Loras with records of 2-6, 1-7, 0-8

With Cornell leaving.  Which schools stay where they are?  Which schools move up?  Which schools move down?

Something I have been meaning to mention, and I keep forgetting, is that I hope the IIAC and KCRG...and hopefully other station partners will continue the relationship they started this year.  The IIAC and KCRG channel 9.2 broadcast the UD/Loras and the Wartburg/Central football games and they plan to air 2 more basketball doubleheaders later this season.  I have had many people come up to me and say they had just been flipping channels and when they stumbled across the UD/Loras game they decided to stop there and watch the game.  They all said they enjoyed it and loved seeing the players jumping up and down with the Key over their heads after the game.

I know it's not easy, but it would be great for the IIAC to get more exposure like this.  People seem to like seeing the product.  They just didn't know a whole lot about it before seeing it on the television.  Hopefully there is more to come.

What is this basketball you speak of?? :-\  Wrestling is the only thing going on right now that I know of. 8-)

I'm pretty sure they don't speak French in basketball. ;D
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

The only coaching change I have heard about so far is that McMacken from Loras has left and they promoted from within to replace him as D-Coordinator.

As mentioned, Raeburn is coaching against his alma-mater this weekend.  From reading about Mt. Union this year and following the OAC, I have a gut feeling that they are due for an upset.  They have had more close games this year than any years recently (except for the Championships).  If I wasn't heading out deer hunting, I would have been making the trip up North.

Pat Coleman

They could be due for an upset indeed. That doesn't mean it will happen this weekend, but it could happen. The offense has not been firing on all of its usual cylinders.

I cracked up when I saw this. It's nice to see that you're staying true to your roots. I was bragging to friends over Thanksgiving about how we were spoiled with all the deer sticks back in the 10th ave apt days.

Ah yes basketball.  The sport that Wartburg was most proud of back in the day of Buzz Levick and old Knight's Gymnasium.  There was a time, NewKnightDad, that football season was nothing more than a sport that made Knight fans happy we had a good basketball team.  Under Levick the Knights ran off nine straight conference titles in the late 60's to early 70's.
That old barn of a gymnasium would rock & roll when the Knights took the court.  In those years conference games would be held on Friday & Saturday nights.  The field houses at Luther, Upper Iowa, Wartburg, and Dubuque would be packed when the four NE Iowa teams played one another.  There were lots of old high school friends that would spend the weekends at the opponents campus when their team was on the road.
Wartburg vs. Central would draw big crowds as well.  I assume Central and Wm. Penn were some barn burners because they had some good teams around that same time.
I don't think these Tuesday evening and Saturday afternoon basketball games are very attractive to fans.  Who in the world thinks it is a good idea for rival Wartburg and Luther to play a game on a Tuesday night a week before finals?
