The only coaching change I have heard about so far is that McMacken from Loras has left and they promoted from within to replace him as D-Coordinator.

As mentioned, Raeburn is coaching against his alma-mater this weekend.  From reading about Mt. Union this year and following the OAC, I have a gut feeling that they are due for an upset.  They have had more close games this year than any years recently (except for the Championships).  If I wasn't heading out deer hunting, I would have been making the trip up North.

I cracked up when I saw this. It's nice to see that you're staying true to your roots. I was bragging to friends over Thanksgiving about how we were spoiled with all the deer sticks back in the 10th ave apt days.

My freezer ran dry of deer meat and the wife actually wants to try and shoot a deer, so I figured what the heck.  If I can get her into hunting this winter and golf this summer, what more could I ask for!?!  ;D  If you are really craving some deer jerky, that Redneck teammate of ours from Solon was making his own when I was down there last weekend.

A few pages back someone mentioned IWC college not getting into the IIAC.  This may be old news but last week their basketball coach Alan Magnani was fired because he refused to publically support the colleges move to D3.  IWC has since name Jess Settles as their Head Basketball Coach.   I can only imagine all of the pump fakes that are happening in Mt Pleasant these days.

Warthog--I heard that you made it down for a few games this year...sorry that we don't have near enough seating  ;D    Thanks for the support!!

In the comments section of the article announcing the IWC basketball coach had been fired for not supporting the schools move to D3 there were people saying the move to D3 was bad because almost all small, private schools in Iowa were NAIA and now they wouldn't be able to play schools like Loras and Coe.  That made me chuckle.  The article also mentioned that the nearest D3 conferences were the IIAC and the MWC.  Apparently the paper was unaware that IWC had already announced they were planning to join the SLIAC.

Does anyone think with one less conference school that we might see a few more IIAC vs NAIA matchups in football?  I know Central and Northwestern had a series of games going in the 1980's.  It doesn't help a D3 school if they are making a run for the playoffs.  But it might mean a closer game to schedule.

24 hours after the news broke (5 weeks after the incident) and no mention of this? You guys are slacking. Also curious that no media mention of this being a Wartburg football player (at least he was before the alleged crime).

4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

C - Buy dog food at grocery store on way home from work...check
D - Stir up hornets nest on D3boards by linking story about Wartburg student...check

I'm not sure this ever made the news before now.
Everyone too focused on UD winning the IIAC to notice this story way back when it happened ;)
The Wartburger Hamburglar story seemed better to talk about.

In all seriousness, if the player was dealt with appropriately, then enough said.  We don't need to talk about it on here.  I do find it a bit odd this story remained unreported until now.

I do think some stories are appropriate for message board talk...like the Wartburg QB from a few years ago.  It was in the news, it was less serious than sexual assault, and he continued to play until being sat down 1 game just in time for Cornell visiting Waverly.  Something like that makes sense to be talked about.  From what it seems like, this kid was taken off the team and dealt with immediately.  And with the lack of any reporting on it...we really couldn't talk about it.

Ho humm, it is looking like another WW vs MtU championship game.  I hold out hope for a St Thomas upset but don't think it is going to happen.  >:(

Does anyone know if any IIAC players are on the roster for the D2/D3 All American Bowl in Minneapolis?
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

I see Wesley beating Mount Union before St. Thomas beats Whitewater.

One game kicks off at noon and the other at 3:30 ET ... so it makes sense. :)

According to the forecast, it will be a beautiful day for a football game in Pella this Saturday.  Too bad there won't be one.

Isn't this what they call, "hot stove time," when we get to speculate what 2012 will be like?  I would worry that Central loses its three year starting quarterback receiver brothers act except that I think who ever gets the qb job next will have some good running backs to help him out.  Otherwise, it looks like about the usual amount of loses to graduation and experienced underclassmen coming back.  I was feeling bad guessing at who was coming back and made the mistake of looking at the IIAC all conference list.  Central put 11 guys on the first, second and honorable mentions lists.  Only a place-kicker and linebacker are not seniors.  Yikes!

Does anyone know who the IIAC will be playing in any non-conference games?

I know on the offensive side of the ball Wartburg will be replacing both tackles, the center and possibly the left guard from the line plus the QB and a wide receiver.

The kid projected to be the starting QB next year saw some playing time this year but not a bunch.  WB should be set at RB as Sims, Thompson and Dahlstrom all return and have some talented receivers coming back as well.

Defensively WB should be solid at LB but lose some good players on the line and VanDenHal at corner and Brooks at safety.

Wartburg also loses their punter and field goal kicker (different kicker for kick offs and field goal PAT's).  Maybe they can find a kicker that can kick the ball deeper that the 20 yard line on kickoffs.

Dubuque had 7 seniors on the roster, 6 were starters with the 7th one in the WR rotation.  Of those Seniors, 5 were 1st, 2nd, or HM IIAC.

The Spartans lose top 2 WR's in Zweifel and Fleming, both were 1st team IIAC and Marcus Taylor who was on the field every other play bringing in the plays and was a great down field blocker. At RB we lose Justin Spaulding, 1st team IIAC.  On O-line we lose Tyler Lang, 2nd team IIAC and Austin Chatman who was a 3 year starter.  On the D-line we lose Antonio Hayes, Honorable mention IIAC.

The Spartans big losses are at WR with all-american Zweifel and 3 year starter Fleming who worked his way up to 1st team IIAC his senior year as well as two big hogs on the O-line.  As the O-line goes, so goes the offense.  The Spartans return Wyatt Hanus at QB and 2 reserve running backs that should be able to come close to filling Justin Spauldings shoes.  Now would be a good time for a high school senior WR to make a commitment to UD!!!

On defense the Spartans return 10 starters from a much improved defense over 2010.  Bring in some depth and the defense should be strong next year.
