I have been told that Danny Stiefel from Wartburg was voted MVP for team Stars & Stripes down in Mexico.
Win or lose we still booze!!

OhIowa

Not to keep beating up on the subject, but the whole idea that a team is "too good for a division" is hogwash.  What do you do about teams that are already at the highest level possible, ie: Iowa Wrestling or Penn State Volleyball (although their streak was snapped this year).  At some point,  the scale will balance out.  UConn Women's basketball was thought to be unbeatable for 80 or 90 some straight games and look what happened.  We live in a society where people expect things to be given to them or things just happen to them.  They hold out their "clean hands" that haven't touched the dirt of hard work and expect to reap the benefits.

I completely agree with everyone else that says "We need to get better."  That's what playing and coaching sports is all about.  That's the competitive nature of sports, to get better and beat the best.  I've coached in the OAC and it's hard not to look at Mount Union and ask, what are they doing that we aren't?  When you try and do that, you are setting yourself up for failure.  How many people would dare to install St. John's questionable "Winning with No" mentality.  Whether they truly operate on that system or not is one thing, but you can't change who you are and how you operate based on someone else's success.  Bottom line, find what works for you and don't worry about what other teams are or aren't doing.

I live 5 blocks down the street from this year's NAIA National Champion St. Xavier University Cougars.  I only mention it on the IIAC Post Pattern because, I think their success could have something to do with Loras' struggles lately.  SXU has only had a football team for 13 years and I will take a guess that they give scholarships to some Chicago Catholic League guys who otherwise would have gone to Loras.  I watched the game on one of the ESPN's Saturday night.  My uneducated guess is that either NAIA finalist would have been top 25 NCAA Div. III but would not have made it out of the second round of the play-offs.

Rex...don't say that to an NAIA fan...they will tell you D3 is just intramural football and the NAIA is every bit as good or better than D2...well not all of them...but most ;)

OhIowa...I agree.  When we sat in the stands and watched NCC hand it to UD it stunk...but as we were all walking back to the bus the conversation was "well, let's see what kind of recruiting class we bring in"  We were ready for the next season to get here and see how we will improve.

5 – Names I've heard connected to potential pro careers so far: Monmouth quarterback Alex Tanney, North Central tight end Kyle Fiedorwicz, Hampden-Sydney wide receiver Kyle Vance, Shenandoah wide receiver Rico Wallace, Wittenberg wide receiver Josh McKee.

The above from the ATN Year in Review.

Two things stand out: Why no Zweifel?
Wartburg is 3-0 against a potential NFL QB.

I find that odd also considering the number of NFL teams that have been scouting him for the past couple of seasons. Like D-Dog said, he isn't your prototypical Pro WR as far as Size and Speed but he certainly makes up for it with intelligence, hands, and heart.

Like I always believe...I'd take a guy like Wes Welker (NE), Danny Woodhead (NE), Danny Amendola (St Louis), Fred Jackson (Bills) over "prototypical" team cancers like Terrell Owens, Ochocinco, Suh (Detroit) and so on. In the long run, those are the guys that will have the most positive impact on a team.

He has a long difficult road to the NFL, but if he decides to take it, I believe anythings possible. There is a place in the NFL for possession WR's and with as much passing as goes on in the NFL, I hope someone gives him a chance.

I know it isn't the NFL, but his skills might be well suited for the Canadian Football League where downs are limited and distance is increased. A receiver with sure hands and an ability to run precission routes is an especially valued commodity in the CFL.

Dubuque is now adding Mens Lacrosse to go along with the already announced Womens Lacrosse program.  The women will be a club sport in 2012 and varsity in 2013 with the men as a club sport in 2013 and varsity in 2014.

Jake Olsen has been named the mens Lacrosse coach.  He is a Wartburg alum that spent this past season as the WR coach at UD.  He has now been named the offensive coordinator of the football team as well as the head coach of the mens Lacrosse team and is also an adjunct professor in the Core Curriculum at UD.

No wonder Zweifel was so successful, he had a Wartburg grad coaching him!

In all seriousness, may each and every one of you have a blessed , safe, and happy holiday season!!

Not that I need additional reasons to dislike Luther, but I have one.

I understand Newt Gingrich's current wife is a Luther grad.
