My money is on Wartburg to be last with UD releasing just ahead of the Knights ;D

Dubuque Telegraph-Herald with a UD football story today...http://www.thonline.com/sports/local_sports/article_926e8141-3eaa-5b5d-87ed-d03a1a729193.html?cbst=2

It's a subscription but here are some bits from it...

Zweifel is comfortable with his team's talent in the backfield, where junior-to-be Kyle Acker, who was a solid No. 2 back behind Spaulding last season, is waiting in the wings and 2010 Telegraph Herald Player of the Year Dakota Runde is the new projected No. 2 back. Acker averaged 4.6 yards per carry while running for 432 yards and three scores.

But Zweifel knows UD's wide receiver spot has gaping production holes to fill with the loss of arguably the best receiving tandem in IIAC history.

"You can't graduate Fleming and Zweifel and not have concerns about it," Stan Zweifel said.

Dubuque is set at quarterback where the record-setting Wyatt Hanus (coming off a 3,490-yard, 44-touchdown junior season) returns along with all four other QBs on the 2011 roster. Offensive line is another strong spot, where first-team all-IIAC performer Richard Skaife heads the unit.

"We feel really good about the work we've put in on the offensive line," Zweifel said. "If you've got a good offensive line, you've got a chance to be pretty good."

The Spartan secondary needs a major overhaul, but should return free safety Malcolm Stewart (who is rehabbing from a broken leg) and Dylan Ramsey, a speed merchant limited to two games by injury in 2011 who Zweifel calls "the fastest player on our team." Recruiting and developing a consistent kicker with long range is a priority to lighten the workload of punter Steve Jones.

Zweifel believes he needs to go no further than a 100-mile radius of the tri-states to make Dubuque an even better team in 2012 than its 9-2 2011 breakthrough squad.

"I think we're going to have an outstanding football team next season," Zweifel said. "Winning breeds success. We're excited about the changes we've went through, and so excited about having local kids on our roster."

And Simpson announces their 2012 schedule...http://www.simpsonathletics.com/sports/fball/2011-12/releases/20120112fk0rq8

Date Opponent 2011 Overall, Conf. Record Kickoff
Sept. 1 at Hamline 0-10, 0-8 MIAC 1 p.m.
Sept. 8 Gustavus Adolphus 2-8, 2-6 MIAC 1 p.m.
Sept. 15 at UW-River Falls 1-9, 1-6 WIAC 1 p.m.
Sept. 29 Wartburg 8-2, 6-2 IIAC 1 p.m.
Oct. 6 at Central 7-3, 6-2 IIAC 1 p.m.
Oct. 13 Loras 1-9, 0-8 IIAC 1 p.m.
Oct. 20 Coe (homecoming) 6-4, 6-2 IIAC 1 p.m.
Oct. 27 at Dubuque 9-2, 7-1 IIAC 4 p.m.
Nov. 3 at Buena Vista 2-8, 2-6 IIAC 1 p.m.
Nov. 10 Luther (senior recognition) 3-7, 3-5 IIAC 1 p.m.

It looks like Simpson has dumbed down their non-con schedule...0-10 Hamline...1-9 UW-River Falls...2-8 Gustavus Adolphus.  I suppose it's good to build up your confidence early, take a week off, and then take on Warty and the Dutch to start the conference part of your schedule.

Interesting to note that each of the 4 IIAC schools to release their 2012 schedule have 09/22 as their Bye week.  The CCIW is a conference that opens with 3 straight non-con games and then takes a conference wide week off in week 4 of the season before finishing up with 7 straight weeks of conference games.  I guess the IIAC is following that example.  Or maybe 4 teams take the 4th week off and maybe 4 teams could take week 11 off.  I don't know.

Mr. Ypsi

Slight correction.  MOST CCIW teams take week four as a bye, but not all (unless things have changed).   We always have one or two games in week four (usually Wheaton; sometimes one other team).

YUCK!  THIS SCHEDULE STINKS!!!

  • Uffda #1 - Six of these 2012 opponents were ranked at one time or another in 2011
  • Uffda #2 - Three of the four remaining "unranked" opponents will be on the road in 2012 (Loras, BV & Simpson)
  • Uffda #3 - The only "unranked" opponent that Luther will face at home in 2012 is Central

The Norse could be in a bad way to start the IIAC season.

Congrats to the Packers for a fine regular season..... The officials scored more than they did yesterday!!
Hopefully the Pats will follow GB's lead next week!

I thought it had been awhile since this board talked dirty on here ;)

Ha ha -- I leave for a few months and I come back to dirty talk by a Wartburg guy. It's like I never left. :)

Iowa's DJK is joining the Barnstormers. Yawn. His interviews should make arena football more interesting, at least.

Just keeping the Wartburg end up, that's all.  ;)

You can even make your reply dirty ;D

So does anybody know somebody that can get us 2012 schedules for BV, Central, Dubuque, and Wartburg???  If everyone is taking 09/22 off then we can already figure out the conference portion of the schedule...I'm curious who everyone has found for their non-con games.

Interesting that the Spartans will be playing two WIAC schools next season.  Advantages for Coach Z with recruiting, travel, competition ... or what?
