NAIA pre-season poll came out.  5 of the 10 Iowa NAIA schools are ranked.

8 - Morningside
13 - William Penn
14 - Northwestern
16 - Grand View
20 - St Ambrose

From some NAIA fans I know, Morningside is a very good team.

I'm not sold on William Penn, they struggled to beat a below average Luther last season.

Northwestern fans will tell you they could beat any IIAC school by 3 touchdowns at least...well the Northwestern fans that post on the NAIA board would anyways.

Grand View fans I have talked to seem to be level headed.  They would expect to win most games against IIAC competition, but would acknowledge if they were beaten by a better team.

I've never met a St Ambrose fan.  Not sure what they would think of an NAIA/IIAC match up.  I do know about 5 years ago St Ambrose was a playoff team and had a 1 point win against a 4-6 Loras team.  So who knows.

I can say with confidence that the student/athletes from this area (Quad Cities) that go on to play in either the IIAC or the CCIW are as a group better students and athletes than those who go on to play at NAIA schools.

I would agree with that statement applying it to the whole state. As I've said ad nauseum, they brag about paying $20,000 a year to go to NAIA because they're on a $500 "athletic scholarship" opposed to paying $16,000 a year to go to D3 with normal financial aid. That said, there are some good teams. I just think that if they played a typical D3 schedule they would definitly see tougher overall competition.

Larry Flynt stole our idea!

This just goes to show we should never discuss our really good ideas until we are ready to roll them out to the public.

So you're saying Larry Flint has used the message board to help build his empire of vast wealth?  I wonder what his name on here is and which board he posts on the most ;D

Probably a closet Duhawk.

Jr. played in that league last year...it was an experience.  Some interesting...some good...some bad.  One funny thing:  He played slot receiver which means he got to go in forward motion before the snap.  At his size, with a forward head of steam, he would just level some poor DB on running plays.  He enjoyed that.

No, but you can acheive it without much effort. Kind of like going to Wartburg.

I can't believe I could ever beat D-Dog with a new story but word is, Spartan WR Michael Zweifel signed a free agent contract with the Green Bay Packers!!!!!

Congratulations Michael! Well deserved!!! I'm getting my information from a source that heard it from a fairly reliable source and word is that Baltimore Ravens were the first to offer him a contract on Saturday after the draft but his agent waited until today to see what other options were there.

Go Spartans! Go Packers!!!

I am curious why none of the articles on here have mentioned anything about Michael Zweifel? Anything from being a "hopeful" to sign or that he actually did or will sign with the packers  ???

Or maybe my knowledge of the free agent stuff isn't quite up to par. It appears he was invited to mini camp with a chance to make the team. Is that different then what the other D3 guys did?

Here is the article...http://www.dbq.edu/udathletics/news.cfm?ID=2106&team=Football

What is the difference between signing as an undrafted free agent...and being invited to camp?  Or is there a difference?  Because that article just said Zweifel was invited to camp and didn't say he was an undrafted free agent.

Pat Coleman

We were out of the office today, so I didn't get the update posted until this evening.

This isn't a contract, but a rookie minicamp invite. It could lead to a contract.

Story from Milwaukee Journal Sentinal HERE

A couple lines from the above mentioned article:

Within three years, Stan Zweifel, a former UW-Whitewater assistant and Michael's father, turned the Division III program completely around. The team finished 9-1 last year and won the league.

Of course, a huge part of the success can be attributed to Michael Zweifel's dominance.
The IIAC does not have the same caliber of talent that the WIAC does and so Zweifel owned the league.

Ouch! Now, how do the other WIAC teams don't match up with UWW?  I would guess not all that well over the past few years.  Are the rest of the WIAC teams that much better than the IIAC?

Michael Zweifel pretty much owned the WIAC the 2 years he was at UW-River Falls so um, maybe that writer could have done a better job with his/her article.  The WIAC is a top tier D3 league...but I wouldn't call the IIAC chopped liver either.

Congrats to Michael Zweifel for his invite to the Packers. Hope he earns a roster spot.

He, along with Alex Tanney, are two NFL prospects who are also 0fer Wartburg. I just had to point that out. :)

I'm looking forward to your slings and arrows.
