Best wishes to the Wartburg women's track & field team as the head out to California for this year's NCAA D3 championships.  The Knights have 15 athletes in 25 events.  I hope that big of contingent translates into enough points to get them in the title hunt.  :)

On a football issue:  This is the time of year when I start wondering if there are the right people in place to fill the gaps left by graduating seniors.  The Knights will have a spot to fill at quarterback.  There were several on the roster last year, but there wasn't much varsity playing time available for the rookies.  I didn't pay much attention to the JV game writeups.  I hope some of them got some valuable experience.  Any word from the orange clad faithful as to whom may be the leading candidates heading into the summer?   :-\

From what I am hearing the 2nd stringer from last year will be this years #1 going in to camp.

On the offensive line we lose both tackles and the center.
In the defensive backfield we lose a 4 year starting safety and both starting corners.
We lose Hellboy from the receiving corps.

Line backer, D-Line and running backs are good to go with returning starters and depth.

It will be an interesting season for sure with a lot of questions going in, hopefully the injuries don't stack up like last year.
Win or lose we still booze!!

Aren't Coe, Central and Wartburg all replacing a quarterback this year?

I was told a walk-on at Iowa last season is transferring to Central to play QB.  Similar to 4 years ago when a walk-on at ISU transferred to Central to play QB.  Similar skill set, he runs well and can throw the ball well when called on to do so.  He was a state champ as a high school senior...or at least played in the title game, can't remember the score.

Cascade man tries to bring his pet parrot and zebra into the Doghouse (across the street from UD).

Which begs the question...where was sportsknight last weekend???

I heard through a reliable source the man may have an out on the OWI charge as the Zebra was actually behind the wheel...

I heard one of the corners from Wartburg will actually be staying to take grad courses - any truth to this?

Oh boy football talk!  And it isn't even Memorial Day yet.  I'm getting horny for some news of what kind of team The Dutch will put on the field this year.  I have no idea who the qb will be, but I like the sound of a guy who is competitive and mobile with a live arm, where ever he comes from.  Whoever gets the job, he should have some solid running backs to help him out if Doehrmann, Currie and Osborn all come back for the 2012 season.  As for the rest of the team, it looks like it will be the usual mix of vets and new faces.  I am already looking forward to the September 29 Homecoming game against the reigning conference champs.

I have it on pretty good authority that this gentleman is what Dalton from Road House would call a "trustee of modern chemistry."  I'm actually surprised that he didn't have any thing on him besides the booze.  And the wildlife.

The good news is there was only one senior & 15 freshmen  & sophomores on the Simpson's 6-14 team last season.  The bad news is Coach Hansen has 15 freshmen  & sophomores coming back from a 6-14 team.

ok - I am going to try to actually talk football again...Does anyone have knowledge of the corner from Wartburg who completed his undergrad degree but is to remain on campus to work on his master's, thus playing again this year for the Knights?

What is this kids story?  Injured and sat out a year?  Started out at a different school and did not play football, then transferred to Wartburg...graduating in 4 years but still with 1 year of eligibility?  Either way, good luck.  I'm sure the coaches would love to have someone with experiance back on the team.
