It is probably just wishful thinking, but I hope the investigation the Paterno family is supposedly funding will find something positive about JoPa's actions during the Penn State Sandusky situation. I find it hard to believe Coach Paterno could have or would have protected Sandusky for those many years.  JoPa got Sandusky off his staff, perhaps he mistakenly and foolishly thought he had done his job and it was now someone else's problem.  Which brings up an interesting point.  If Sandusky wasn't on the football staff,  but rather used Penn State facilities for his foundation, why aren't the penalties for the entire Penn State Athletic Department, including Cale Sanderson's wrestling team?

I hope this is a joke.  Did you read the report?

He was raping children, SOMEONE ELSE'S PROBLEM. ARE YOU SERIOUS??????????

Go think about your post, then think about your kids (or your future kids). Then come back.

And for everyone who didn't tell this lunatic that he is nuts, come on guys.

Before you get your panties in a bunch and attempt to have this message board rise up against me, read what I wrote.  I highlighted in red what I think to be the part you must have failed to read.  I don't mind being attacked when it is deserved, but don't come on here trying condemn me or any of the other posters just because of your 3rd grade reading abilities.

I'm with you warthog.  Clearly you were mis-read with a subsequent over-reaction.

I thought that might happen.  When Hub City had that capping problem and had all that sour beer on the market, I was concerned that they might lose their reputation and their customers.  Hy-Vee stopped carrying it after the problem, so we couldn't even buy it down here to see if they had corrected the issue.  I've tried Angry Cedar at Little Warthog's place.  It taste good, but when I went to buy some I realized I needed to get a secong job if I was going to be able to afford it on a regular basis.  Perhaps we'll do retro tailgating this season (Schlitz and Grain Belt).

I'd be a little suspect of the findings of any 'investigation' the Paterno family funds. And while you may find it hard to believe, I know I sure did initially, the evidence is starting to pile up. And getting him off the staff was far from sufficient, but the real problem is that he attempted to cover up the incident. That's where he goes from out of touch old ball coach to a part of the problem and bearer of responsibility for the fact that the evil continued unpunished and unexposed for all those years.

All around, a very sad state of affairs.

I agree with what you say.  JoPa could have / should have done more.

Yet, Sandusky was removed from the football staff.  Why then was this just a football problem?  Why wasn't the whole athletic department condemned?

Warthog,

I understand your point but I think in this day and age the football revenue is what drives the athletic budget so I think that is the reason for the 60 million fine.  That has to hurt the whole university's budget don't you think?

Warthog you stated it correctly Idaho misread it totally.  I agree with your post 100%  I think that is why the NCAA vacated his wins since 1998.  Joepa spoke at a coaches convention in the past few years.  I know a young coach that attended his speech and after the report came out that Joepa covered it up this young coaches opinion changed 180 degrees about Joepa and his integrity speech at the convention.  IMHO he had no integrity where that pervert is concerned.  It may have been misplaced loyalty on Joepa's part but IMHO integrity trumps loyalty every time or should.

Sightings of a new Wartburg football player in Waverly this morning.  This one is a DE.  Word is he will be quite an impact player for the Knights.

His name is Ben.  Coach Willis can't pencil him into the two deeps quite yet.

He was just born this morning at the Waverly Hospital and his 8.5 pound frame probably needs a little bulking up before he takes the field.

(The Warthog family grows again.)

Congrats Warthog.  Nothing better than a new little one in the family.  Hope he grows and listens to his dad.  He will do well.

All this mention of Beer of the past makes me want to ask:

doolittledog ... was Dubuque Star beer and Potosi beer still around when you were on campus?
Anyone else remember any now extinct beer?

Dubuque Star was around.  You could get a case of it for about 3 bucks and nobody in Dubuque would buy it.  Friends of mine that worked at the airport said you would see business men leaving Dubuque with cases of it.  I guess it had become popular in Georgia right before it shut down.  I think it was the mid 90's when they finally gave up and shut the place down.  A shame really.  I have heard they made decent beer, but Dubuquers considered it unfashionable to drink the local stuff.  The Brewery building now has a restaurant on the upper level and the tasting room for the Stone Cliff Winery on the 1st level.  They have summer concerts outside of it that get decent crowds.  That area is the place to be now.  It was a run down mess when I lived there.

Potosi Brewery was long gone when I was in Dubuque, but they have recently started back up.  They turned the brewery into a museum as well as a working brewery and restaurant.  You can get their beer at my local grocery store, though for some reason I don't think they brought back the Holiday Beer brand, which I thought had been their best seller.  Maybe trademark issues.  We plan to visit that brewery when we go to the UD vs UW-Platteville game next fall.

The UW-Platteville and UD homecoming games look like those will be our "sans kids" games.  We plan to skip week 3 against UW-Stevens Point for our sons birthday party,  Luther is a maybe right now, and we plan to make 1 game between Simpson and Loras this year.  Otherwise you will see us at 7-8 games this year plus any playoff games located in Iowa/Illinois/Minnesota/Wisconsin.

Dubuque Star otherwise known around here as Mississippi Mud, that was some bad beer.

But by todays standards it might be considered as a great micro brew.

I don't think it's going to hurt it all that much.  The plan is to pay it off in five installments of $12 million each year so they won't have to take the whole hit in a single year.  I would think that given the loyalty of their alumni they will be able to raise that much relatively easily.  There will be some impact on the university but I just don't think it will be as dire as some might think.

A few "excellent" beers come to mind from my days @ the Wart (these were our beer(s) of choice when trying to save a buck or two:
Falstaff - riddle on the cap (they got more difficult as the night went on) - the deposit on the yellow crate cost more than the beer
Beer & Light Beer - I believe it was brewed by Falstaff as well - I think one can was white & the other a grey/silver color
Schmidt - Big mouth bottles - not "extinct"
