Like I said, you can't put much stock in rankings, UD loved their 7thplace ranking last year and we all know how that  turned out. I just can't wait to start the games!!!

... when was the last D1 transfer that didn't pan out? Central had a couple in '05 or '06 that tore it up, Walner belleus was obviously very good despite some comments here, Nate Snead actually played at Drake before Central, who else

How'd Wartburg's UNI transfer fare?
At least one is being inducted to the HOF this year!

The Kohawks were picked for 7th in 2010. Things seemed to work out pretty well that year.

Needless to say, I've heard the boys are loving the fifth place prediction.

In these uncertain times, the preseason ratings mean nothing.  I would much prefer to have Coe's rating than either of my favorites, Wartburg and UD.  All this poll does is provide bulletin board material.  You know there has to be a wide difference of opinions when the second place team on the poll has no votes for #1, but teams #3 & #4 do.  Time will tell - Let the games begin.

Ill just tell you from personal experience "bulletin board material" is one of the most cliched, overused, and inaccurate terms used in sports. Kids from Coe aren't going to play any harder because of what a preseason poll says, dbq players aren't going to feel anymore pressure for having been voted #1, Central players will play with a chip on their shoulder whether they were voted 1, 5, or 8....the point of pre season polls on the D3 level is just for this: Fan banter. They have no influence or bearing on current players whatsoever.

But if you think for a minute that coaches and players don't look on this board, you are sorely mistaken.

This may be the only time this season I agree with you  ;)

I agree with FBD; kids are kids & will be "influenced" in different ways to some degree.... Coaches, players, etc will use anything they can to motivate, whether it be for a season or an individual game. In the NWC, think back to Linfield with their "Leave No Doubt" motto when they felt they were snubbed from the playoffs the previous year!

I don't know how many of you were in these locker rooms at some point, but I was and I will tell you, for a fact, the team I played for was not influenced in the slightest by preseason rankings. In season rankings? Hell yes, we're not stupid and we know when we put 50 on a team we will jump up higher than if we dropped 21, and we all were very aware about mid-season rankings and, more importantly, the regional rankings, but to think these players in camp are influenced at all by the preseason rankings is just asinine. The only reason we checked these boards at this point was for some cheap entertainment from you posters, which I will now be a part of.

Maybe it didn't happen in your locker room and maybe it didn't happen in any locker rooms but you or anyone can't say for sure.  To call people asinine for thinking other is rediculous.

Different people are motivated in many different ways. I would think that if you felt that you were snubbed in any poll it would be motivation to work harder.

If, at any point, you weren't motivated to work harder after being snubbed or disrespected, then you might want to change your field of endeavour. Even though your personal confidence may not care what someone else thinks, they have a reason for thinking it, and if you think they are wrong you have to prove them wrong. Otherwise, go play intramural.

And if you can't find the means to motivate yourself from within, and need someone to disrespect you before you accomplish something, or work harder, then you need to change your field of endeavor ...

I guess you aren't picking up on what I'm saying:
No matter how hard you think you are working, if someone or something implying that you aren't good enough doesn't make you work harder, then maybe you should look up complacency in the dictionary. It might make the difference between first place and third place. It definetly makes the difference between first and second.

BTW, you should have bolded the "your" in your reply unless you are attempting to correct my spelling, which is correct.
